Guang Ming evening edition suspended for two weeks
PETALING JAYA: The government has suspended the printing and publishing licence of Guang Ming Ribao Sdn Bhd's evening edition of Guang Ming Daily for two weeks from Wednesday to March 1.
According to an Internal Security Ministry statement on Tuesday, the decision was taken following the publication of an article in the paper's evening edition on Feb 3 headlined "European media re-publish caricature to heighten controversy; Denmark paper insults Islam, apology sought", which included a caricature of Prophet Muhammad.
The ministry said Guang Ming had committed an offence and breached paragraph 6 of the permit conditions issued under subsection 6(1) of the relevant act with the publication of the caricature.
On Monday, the management of Guang Ming Daily was summoned to the ministry to explain the publication of a photo from the AFP news agency which showed the caricature.
Editors from Sin Chew Media Corporation (SCMC), which owns Guang Ming, explained that it did not have intention to publish the caricature.
SCMC said the inadvertent inclusion of the photo was spotted shortly after printing had commenced and the management immediately reponded by issuing an order to cease printing and withholding all the printed copies.
It had also recalled copies that were circulated to its vendors.
DESIDERATA: Note that it is the "evening edition" that is suspended for two weeks.

There are reasons for everything that comes from man, even the cabinet line-up. Man's decisions lead to his own destiny, and in politics, it starts from his vote placed in the ballot box. So the majority must have wanted it this way, and to point a finger now, is as usual, pointing 3 fingers at ourselves.
