2007 In Review: Pessimism Rules

As a writer, and to some extent as a political activist in my own ways, 2007 is best summed up in one sentence -- Pessimism Over-rides the Malaysian Landscape of Doom and Gloom, but there are some whispers of optimism here and there. How I wished it was the other way round, but our leaders -- both of the Government and Opposition ranks -- disappoint.

So Malaysia, NegaraKu, Quo Vadis?

Just as one indvidual out of some 26million Malaysians, I try to recap some key issues and events that enveloped the Malaysian consciouness the past 365 days, and I hope my EsteemedReaders will join me in pondering the fate of the nation, and where we are headed.I hope my ER will paint MORE POCKETS OF RAINBOW onto the landscape to help Desiderata-YL Chong balance the picture geenerally more grim than hopeful, but this newshound-writer may be off-track. As individuals, we bring along urprejudice, and sometimes "clouded" lenses, so I hope to hear soeopinions from some of you -- just make it the first time for those "silent" ones who happen on my blog, could have read, but did not leave their footprints before. Can you spare a moment of your time, and pen me your innermost thoughts on this last day of the yaer?

CORRUPTION

My key lament for 2007 is that despite all the announcements, pronouncements and fanfar campaigns on the fight against Corruption, promotion of noble values like Integrity, Good Governance and Transparency, I believe the nation's leaders, especially the Prime Minister and his Cabinet members, have failed us miserably in delverance of the substance to the many messages. It was mainly pronouncment of good intentions, hardly any commitment and implementation of promises.

I think there is a message implicit in the saying: "The pathway to Hell is paved with many good intentions."

Notable sorethumbs that need to be excised (by "chief surgeon" Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullaah Ahmad Badawi!) are:

* State Assemblyman for Port Klang Zakaria Mad Deros' RM7-10million "small house" -- nothing less than complete demolition of thismansion will lend any meaning to the PM's fight against corruption. Here's the clearest and most blatant show of law-breaking by a BN law-enforcer/Policy maker, and instead of punishing him, the State government further compounded the issue by "gifting" to the idiot/moron/robber baron's wife an adjoining piece of land recently.

Is the Stae anticipating Zak would be building an air-raid shelter costig another RM10million to be financed by the State government. Is the MB Khir Toyol under the sore thumb's control of a super-Little Napoleon?

** Oh, Port Klang agin! -- this royal city to be included under a special category in that stupid Buku of Rekod-rekod MalaySIA-sia.
RM4.5billion bailout of the PORT KLANG FREE ZONE.

Yet, up to date, NOT A SINGLE DELINQUENT OFFICIAL INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT (whose initial costs were less than RM1.5billion) HAD BEEN ASKED TO ACCOUNT FOR THE INHERENT CORRUPT ACTS THAT LED TO THISMESSY STATE OF AFFAIRS.

Hey, Mr PM, did the money fall out fom the kind Klang Valley sky?
OR was Petronas' almost RM50-billion net profits being channelled again for such charitable acts -- when will the blardy BN Cabinet ever learn?
THAT THE RAKYAT ARE NO MORE IN THE MOOD TO BE BLARDY-FOOLED!

*** Dear ER, you add on to this list of pure and blatant Corrupt acts witnessed in NegaraKu, in hapless bewilderment by an audience of some 26milllion (minus the 'hole sleeping Pak Lah XLL-sized Kabinet!).

DESIDERATA: I am pretty tired, so I shalt stop here. Because should I go on with my LAMENTS of the sorry events in 2007, I may run out of Gigabyte space! And my weak-hearted and angrified (is dare such a word?) EsteamedReadersmight suffer a mild heart attack, and swell the beds at IJN, and VVe citizens wouldn't want that happen, yes! Our tax-dollars can be put to "badder" use!

At the end of the ay, if the blardy leaders don't really give substance (over form) to the fight of the country's NUMBER ONE SCOURGE, Malaysia cannot hope to join the ranks of the Developed Nations alongside Singapore and Taiwan, Southeast Asian countries with whom Malaysia at one stage was at par in economic standing.

Tomy mind, if we tamed the curse of CORRPTION probem in NegaraKu, all the other problems would consequently be overcome, for they are just wagons in along train, headed by the Engine of Corruptionplus the driver, who is the nation's CEO-cum-locomotive engoneer-cum-PM, except someone seems to be playing Rip van Winkle!

At one conversation two years ago, I asked of my buddy Sdr DIN MERICAN: What do you estimate as the leakage and wastage of funds from the federal Budget?

Din's quick reply: 50 percent! (Desi was more kind, he had ventured a guess of 30 percent...)

My dear ER, what are your year-end charitable/most unkindest estmates?

PS: UPDATEd @6.06pm:

After a hearty "long" lunch followed by bourgeosie Hi-Tea with two politically-informed but could not jaundiced (like Desi-lah) and every other Malaysian becoming more aware and increasing very vocal nowadays, a good result of BERSIH and Hindraf demos?:) and Anwar Ibrahim-cum-Reformasi revival??:) cum the growing influence of the Bloggers???:).Okay, drop the question marks, and the undoubted rocketing influence of the Bloggers!:):):)See, I have done my byte in promoting Blogging among Malaysians, can you write Desi a check?

Now, as I was saying, one of my lunch conversationists just returned from Ozland; followed by a short ketchUP with returning for Christmas holiday in PP of a Young&Articulate, Desi has his worst fears confirmed. The senior conVersationist says he has advised two gals who had studied and graduated in Australia, and are now handsomely working Down Under, NOT TO RETURN TO Malaysia. What's there to welcome them back, and his conclusion -- returned three years back just as I started this Blogger's journey -- that Malaysia is sliding more and more every year, and The Abyss is staring at us maybe a short 10 years away.

The short-time returnee, now professonally trying to prevent Seniors from need ing to extract their wisdom tooth/teeth in LOTR country, says she's doing fine inher adopted land. I forsee many of her contemporaries -- just started work abroad where they studied to become professionals like dentist, pharmer, scientist (No, not astronu!) would NOT BE COMING BACK TO MALAYSIA. Not because they don'tlove Malaysia-- it's just they don't see having a bright future in a declining system called Bolehland.

I agree. we are "boleh" in the wrong departments. Re-inventing the wheels and patting ourselves and blowing the trumpets ourselves as if Malaysians hadve achieved a breakthrough.Riding as a passenger in a foreign space-craft and we trumpeted for weeks that we have entered the Space Age. My foot! It's not able to do Michael Jackson's moonwalk! I am Too Young, so who am I to return such a Verdict that it's all gloom and doom on the horizon.

As a blardy half-past-six writer, desi tries to check and balnce the colours of Malaysia's landscape, add some rainbow colours here and there. Maybe, just perhaps, okay, Mayhaps, IF WE INDIVIDUALS ALLL WAKE UP ON TIME
to realise that the past decade's economy had mainly been buttressed by PETRONAS oil dolars,
WE MSAY MAY A GENUINE FIRST EFOORT TO TRULY NEHAVE LIKE A FIRST WORLD ECONOMY.

About a decade ago, as a business journalist, I witnessed the financial systemic breakdown.
Today, I see a moral systemic breakdown when GREED rules over every blardy damned thing the nation's leaders, especially political heads, engage in.
Even Desi's mildly affected,he's asking for 20million for his 3-year-old Blue Haven. Any takers, of some 25million suckers out there? (Minus one million who are in the top 5 percent who make up what mGf Maverick SM calls endearingly, Bloodsuckling Oligarchs.

VISIONS of ...

Too-olde-olde-SE7EN bonds Connery and Moore. fading out ...

Like French wines and Chinese premium teas Pu-erh, with age cometh rising value, so as Desi and Co add one 365 days-stretch when 2008 dawns in two+1 moOre days, we become wiser, HOPEfuly, and dantier, STEPfully, and friendlier, FAITHfully.

In all temporal things, I price/prize fRiendship at the highest level because we are all caught in this constant fight between GOoD and (D)evil since we first entered this world mostly not of our own choice, more likely via an accidental act of ecstasy between little adam and eve before the rude awakening. If you are an adult, and know not what the preceding sentence means, go ask thy below-17-but-tastng-the-age-of-consent fruits of easy labour before time sonny boy,or danzinggal, you will be surprised they know what's Ecstasy -- both the pill and the state -- but knot Adam's apple. Or Eve's agony.

Being dainty is a quality that fits into the Desiderata.Feminity if thou art olde schooled like Desi and coy. So it's ranked second in my order of temporal things I'd like of my fella women, or ladies, or virginal queens. Whatever that suits by probably theory, half of my most EsteemedReaders.

As for being "wise", it should by the nature of things, come naturally wit' rising Age. But trouble is, some members of the species called Homo sapiens, often want to fight Nature. Hence, a handsome young boy like Michael Jacksonny became a Michelle Jackaroo, wasting God's gifted talents for some nip&tuck that maketh many doctors happy as a lark/luck. Also maketh some dumb blondes looking blondier and dumber wit' more tuck&nip on their tucker-tummy and nickle-nipples.

So instead of becoming wiser, some of Homo sapiens clubbies become aMoreVice-d, but who's Desi and company to judge, it's their money, honey! I only like to sing wit' my Blogger buddies like Howsy, Mave and Expyre(d) -- No, Anak Merdeka did not make a cameo AP! -- now joined by Ancient Mariner and "V"-cum-Pardner, and MosesF: Hey JUDE. or Hi Judy!

Again, if you don't follow Desi, nahmind, it's just a Blogger's year-end abuse of an AP you can get also in 3EzySteps at Blogger.com. That was the parting advice that I urged "V" as well as in respnose via sms when one Moses sms-ed profused thanks for ak tehtarik-stanied-kopi of Midnight Voices when he came down awe the way from Balakong to make up the quorum for G7 Yesterday, when all our (Desi, Ancient Mariner, "V" and Significant Other) troubles were so far away.

For my EstemedReaders who didn't attend, nahmnd,I know your (HE)art of hearing is so artfoolyou heard every word we said along the oblong table. FurongKnights did not like any round table for that applied for King Arthur and his horseriders, whileDesi & co are mainly Socialists wt' a Capitalist bent and a Bourgeousie APpetit. Daintily siping French wines and Pu-erh teas after gulping down like Croc Downdees tehtarik plus Miss Sunthi. Just a hint of what intellectual discourse that was whispered SE7EN hours before midnight, here's the sms I received just an hour after te do/did/deed, and I bl'sh'd jest a li'l gushing from one who look'd just the age of johnleemk, via sms:)

"Hi Desi, t was great to meet u. Thanks for the book n the good time. Regards."

DESI
feels it's such gre8 fun-D to win some new fRiends via Bogging adbencha (that was how it was spelt reading one ENID BLYTON's Secret Se7en's outings, do you remember?;) No? You forgetfool wans, That was just a fleeting few years ago!

Desi was expecting to get a Viva in my fave colour BLUE; but it rose too high out of reach,so I settled for Apple Green, when Christmas trees were tall, and I was still small. That also explains My Blue H'aven, Yes! Which, BTW, also recalled our G5 conversation Yesterday at Lingam's of one perrenial Peter Pan of pop, CLIFF RICHARD, always like some of us,forever a Bachelor Boy.

WHICH recalls2 for this ass.pirant poet-cum-sin'er, these memorable
youthful:

VISIONS

Visions of you in shades of blue
Smoking, shifting, lazily drifting
My darling, I miss you so

Time goes by, no wonder my senses go reeling
Your eyes so appealing
I see the whole night through

When will we meet again, when when when
When will we meet again, when when when
I remember the days, beautiful days,
Tenderly gleaming
My whole life seeming to start, and end
With you

Poetic Licence to Make It *Badder

In this almost three-year cyber journey, I re-learnt the (HE)art of making new friends. You might have grown up wit'mates from the schooldays going back a decade, two or three.
Desi's pretty n young,it's only travellin' back half.

If you honestly tell the world, you have very few of schoolmates you would call "buddies. But in blogosphere, you win some "buddies" in a shorter time. Because in reading someone's writes, you either connect -- call it having chemistry if you will -- and soon you interact more, and become "buddies" (as flower blooms from a bud) or you don't, so you move on. Please note that I am bolding (THUS) many words I have been using a special licence, or put bluntly, abusing of the Queen's English, because if you can't be a king of the language, try to be a Raja Rojak and earn yourself a mention in that book of records that Malaysians are known the world over four! (4 as in four corners of the world when it's still believed by many locals here that the world is indeed flat, beating Thomas Friedman to his claim, nyet, except the smart Americano newsdog became a millionaire putting thoughts to words). The Bard and others like Wordsworth, Lord Tennyson, Ehrmann and the Brownings used it as POETIC LICENCE,and Desi is an imitator. As they say, Imitation is the best form of flattery.

Earlier this week, I had used the word *badder in a jestfool way, teasing my EsteemedReaders ("Hear cometh ER,make way, we have an accident case!".

Example: on ++wedNURSEday, "I sent the following Email to the Director of MC late evening yesterday (hey, see this Journalist works for thee, my dear ER, free and on overtime. Can you spare me a dime for tehtarik then, buddy? *Badder steal, write Desi a cheque for 20million!

*This is part of Da Desi Code, come back on Sunday to know aMore:)"

Xmas ChallengiA: Can a smartaleck ER tell why the hell this hoRst keeps spelling this ++third day of the week this way?
Goode answerer gets an autographed kopi of "Midnight Voices and Other Poems" -- but you need to seek Desi out at hazey, mazey, crazey Furong, K, OK or KO!

I had meant to take Blogging as a fun-D activity, plucking off fellow Bloggers' gems off their gard'nern(Primroses, in Supreme Gardnern yaeh yah yeah?) in the steal of the night, in line with my belief that goode writings must be universally shared.

A late bloomer at Desi's Place who called himself Moses FooL minus the L -- because not everyday is April 1st, and I don't think his Mum still serves him Everydae milk! -- had chickily asked Desi to draw up a Grocery list describing my chai tan of DDC(Da Desi Code -- go aRskE da hoRst of allofhelen.blogspot.comto explain this nomenclature!). In DDC, it should read aweofhelen, but then you'd be led to a deadend, and that would make your Sundae prety wickedwan.

So how to justify using *badder in place of better as the comparative form of good?

Don't you remember?
"Those schoolgirl days
of telling tales and biting nails are gone
..."

Good; better; best
Small; smaller; smallest
Pretty; Prettier; prettiest

OR Pretty; More pretty, Most pretty

Hey,Jude or Judy, but no, for heaven's sake! (Why shouldn't it be For hell's sake?), No

Unique; More unique; Most unique

Certain words like unique, priceless, supreme, almighty ... already have the "superlative" quality, so need no more qualifier.

And if you should ask Desi WHY, please seek this saiko (I emerged just half-a-decade earlier from the womb, remember!) -- JeffOoi is the tailo! -- at Men Kee from 8.00-10.00am and buy him CON BF!

And if you need to ask what is CON BF hear, stand in that church corner/korner at aweofhelen's church in Ipoh!:) OR Get outa of hear!

After a Long and Winding Road, VVe recall one of my favourite
youthful anthems, which willplease NSTman no end, and I think expyred minus da d,
who once invited Howsy
and Desi to join him at the Yellow Submarine. It looked a little pinkish due to the changing seasons of London streets -- blowin' hot and cold! -- so VVe brought along a new coat of Royal colour paint borrowed from BERSIH.

Hey Jude
Lyrics
Artist(Band):The Beatles

Hey Jude don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it *badder (better)

Hey Jude don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it *badder (better)

And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder
Na na na na na
na na na na

Hey Jude don't let me down
You have found her now go and get her
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it *badder (better)

So let it out and let it in
Hey Jude begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you
Hey Jude you'll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder

Na na na na na
na na na na Yeah

Hey Jude don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it )badder (better)
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin to make it )badder (better)
*****Badder, badder, badder, badder, badder,
(Better, better, better, better, better,) Yeah,Yeah,Yeah

Da da da da da da da
Da da da da, Hey, Jude
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da, Hey, Jude
Da da da da da da da
Da da da da, Hey, Jude

DESIDERATA: If you grab hold of the original single (I have one, for aucton at reserved price of 20million,and listen properly, the Beatles really (believe Desi-lah, for once!) sang it as *Badder all the way. Of course "better" within brackets above are the original wordings, I'm just demonstrating a point, hear!) Me and a few mates during Chinoserie New Year would go karaoke, and belt out the chorus like the night will never end. It will only get badder, bader, badder. Awesome.

So if you can't be a Shakespeare clone like Desi, saying of Brutus' fatal dagger stab into Caesar's chest on the +Ides of March -- "the most unkindest cut of all" -- writHing poems for a mousey living, use the Poetic Licence in your Blog-lah. It's Awesome. Then you may get a request from Moses Foo, no ale!, to 'rite out another Glossary. That's a Hi-Tribute, but DDC is already copy-lefted with the Trademarks Office, K!

+ By the way (BTW among Bloggers, which I thought stood for Between the Two of Us when I started at kindie:), Ides of March is the 15th day of the third month in the ....... calendar, also Desi's Place birddie. Remember to send me GreAtings plus that check, right! Or what's left.

MERRY and BLESSED CHRISTMAS everyone
Count your blessings and remember me
to ta pau some turkey for Desi
Too pricey? Roast lamb also can-wan

PS: In the spirit of Yuletide, I say adieu till Boxing Day -- coming back from YouTube's sweet and goodwill reminiscences -- with another Beatles' memorable >>>>>>>

All you need is love

The Beatles

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
There's nothing you can do that can't be done.

Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy.
There's nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be in time
It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
There's nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.
It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
All you need is love (all together now)
All you need is love (everybody)
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.

"All You Need Is Love" is a song written by John Lennon with contribution from Paul McCartney[1] and credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was first performed by The Beatles on Our World, the first ever live global television link. Broadcast to 26 countries and watched by 350 million people, the programme was broadcast via satellite on June 25, 1967. The BBC had commissioned The Beatles to write a song for the UK's contribution and this was the result. It is among the most famous and significant songs performed by the group.

We Sometimes Stray

Alley cats do it
Top and other dogs do it
Baboons do it
And someone claimed babs were our ancestors
So we can blame it on our genes
Humans sometimes -- or is it often? -- stray
Unless you strive to be a Saint, it's okay with Desi
Just remember to pray after play
Just don't become entrenched in that Ecstasy

Why do we stray?
Cos we are human
and some wise men say
Desi didn't
"To err is human..."
You've got thy rationale for thy wandering eye
I won't quote the second part
(To forgive divine)
It's such a burden
Let's today leave out the women
Just sing the song lifting
and taste the wine sublime

We sometimes stray
It's okay
Just assuring some ER who knoweth not Desi
He came back from that midnight moment of ecstasy
Was tempted to stay
No, it's a ***momentary stray

The dogs and cats do it
The monkeys and donkeys do it
Men and women are just like animals
on two legs
So we all stray
You're okay
I'm okay
Let's go karaoke.

PS: *** the poem above was inspired at another wandering following some
Thinking Allowed at midnight ... and Desi was a mite worried that some of my Esteemed Readers could be influenced by my knotty verses to "stray". As implied by Desi's wandering ways confess'd at
*midnight mindset for a price*

"...gift me my 20million
to hell if
my mind's is no more free
at least i'd attain
a sort of kingdom come
and a capitalist's ecstasy

PPS: Also coincidentally, I just heard via email from a nu'e(s) friend from Down Under whom I met at the recent Sunday stroll in the concrete Park wit' fellow Bloggers in the Big, Bad, Wolfish city that defines Koala Lumpuh -- to mark World Human Rights Day, remember?
I will write aMore about the "conversation"; meantime, I just intimate that he's a fair-dinkum bloke of a journalist, and he deemed it apt and appropriate to quote from YL Chong's ('Who the hell is this bloke?')Midnight Voices and Other Poems ...

Just to whet thy aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaPPPPPPPPPPPPPPetite,I shalt quote a little extract from the Oz bloke's latest write, which in my email reply, I told him:

"I like this, striking a chord wrt to NegaraKu (my
Country):"

"Somewhere, right now, a child is being born that will
one day rise up and go toe to toe with an oppressor.
She or he will stand in the face of power and
challenge it to try and keep them silent. The
confrontation may not end well but in that one act of
defiance, others will be inspired. The revolution
proceeds slowly. We need to be patient.

Since humans first discovered that raw power overcomes
the limitations of the flesh, those who seek to create
a better world have struggled to do just that. For
millennia humans have engaged in a battle with their
base desires for sex, resources, shelter and food and
their higher moral and spiritual being. The first is
based on the ‘quick fix’ response while the other
strives to negotiate and understand the eternal.

Somewhere, right now, that child who I mentioned a
moment ago, will also do battle with their base
instincts and the higher realms. Like all of us that
child will grow to adulthood and come to realise that
the ‘quick fix’ might be pleasurable for a short time,
but it, like a federal election, passes all to
quickly. That child will come to realise that the
legacy he or she leaves behind will be all that
matters.

"An extract from my poem -- whisper'd hope -- was used to conclude his piece (it's such a hi-honour, mate!) and I believe, we have a mutual wavelength coincidence with each other's composition, and I assure thee: that's a Heavenly High you don't achieve even Straying into a mistress' chamber!"

To show I've not soul'd out nyet -- cos nobody came forth with 20million offer for Desi's Place! -- I reprise that quote as intimation:

"then there is yet hope
in the midnight whispers of
a babe's cries
a young lass' smile
a young man's bosom void of guile".

midnight mindset for a price

it's the midnght hour
and the year is waning
have i achieved my heart's yearning
my mind wanders

into the soul of man
saying things he doesn't mean
being mean of others he knows not well

nincopoops usurp my terrain
spouting
chicken shit

insisting they represent the silent majority
and I am one of the many

chicken king
go back to where your mother's bowels first
received your shitty cries
you aren't born to represent me

opposition leaders offer medicine
like roadside pedlars promoting their wares
good on the ears
but the drugs don't shine

again
it's all like a sleigh of the hand
tricking the shallow for their votes
i have my nice nest, and a mistress to boot

their mindset is still like the incumbent government
let's safeguard first our turf
hand the king's reins over to our sons
to hell with reform, it's just another song
it's very goode for thee to singalong

it's my midnight
Voice
telling me

Life's like that
harsh reality
and fairy-tale interlude
if you choose to believe
it's actually self-deceive

that the Great Leader meant every saintly word he says
he proclaims himself mr clean
and his son-in-law the king,an angel too
he urges the people to walk the talk with Him
smiles inside him you people are are blardy fool'd

is anything diferent what the Opposition Leader dishes
he and his dynasty just echo the supporters' rose-coloured wishes
but you want change -- go away
stay
in dismay

this is just random thought
i wonder if my soul can also be bought
i hear on the grapevine an SA's is worth at least 1million

desi's waiting
just eleven days to the new year
can someone offer me 20mil
i'm yearning

i'm prepared
to sell my soul now
'cos it's the easy way out
if i bargain hard wit' the Devil
he may let me sit by his right side too
i shalt wander no more
in a comfort zone i'll wit' my mate
that's amore

i learn late tonight
when my mind's awefully clear
there's a price on everyone's head
indeed

gift me my 20million
to hell if
my mind's is no more free
at least i'd attain
a sort of kingdom come
and a capitalist's ecstasy

Minus the Fury as brother Blogger Doc Mave played the messenger. No, I didn't shoot him though he came in the steal/middle of the night (1.20am to be exact!), and Desi does not have Vision 2020. Lucky him!:)

Back to serious mode, my Yahoo! mail has recently suffered an avalanche of Spam! So I believe the official Merdeka Centre's reply tomy Email got LOST. No,Desi was not shortlisted for audition, so I did not get to meet Ibrahim Suffian of Merdeka Centre.

A big "Thank You" to Ibrahim for swift response, but ... (+++Read my sarcasm later, Miss Patience is also Virtuous,OK!)

For The Record,
this Post is also alternatively titled: Manufacturing News -- 3

Desi,

Ibrahim Suffian,
Director - Programs
Merdeka Center for Opinion Research,
had replied. Did you receive it?

Here's what he said:

Dear Yen Long,

Thank you for writing to us about this matter and your concern over the
quality of reporting by our mainstream media - something that we too share.

I wish to clarify that The Star made an error while reporting about the
survey results. The survey was actually carried out between 7 and 12
December 2007
and not, 17 and 21 December 2007 as contained in the report. We have since written to them requesting that a statement be placed in the newspaper to state the correct dates that the survey was
conducted.

I hope that you could post this message on your blogs so that your
readers may have a better understanding of the situation.

Again, thank you for getting in touch with us, please do not hesitate to
contact me if you have further inquiries.

With warm regards

Ibrahim Suffian
Director - Programs
Merdeka Center for Opinion Research

++ I thank the hoRst of maverickysm.blogspot.comfor playing Messenger. I had wanted to gift him a tip -- Buy awe the newly-listed Laughing Stocks!

++ I wonder why The Star did not (I peeped at the Saudara's copy the past two days!) carry any CORRECTION or APOLOGY since the "mistake" was made. Do they take Consumers so lightly in the mistaken notion that "People would just move on and forget about the Issue"?

I fully support Ibrahim Suffian's letter, especially this paragraph which is self-explanatory:

"I wish to clarify that The Star made an error while reporting about the

"

At least the Merdeka Centre has its reputation to protect, and makes a supreme effort to do the necessary. An entity such as a research organisations has to demonstrate integrity, a value that is priceless, and hence must be safeguarded like the Crown Jewels. I guess the People's Paper dabbles lots in imitation jewels, from Petaling Street, anyone?

Manufacturing News

And being caught with the pants down!

The Minister of Propaganda-ganda Wang Anda, a lonely
datuk, would have been mighty proud yesterday to read
a page N3 item and that he had a well-trained disciple
in a double datuk who surpassed the sifu himself in
manufacturing nu'es. And the nudity exposed by mGf
howsy.blogspot.com and maverickysm.blogspot.com. who
achieved a sort of ecstasy I think in seeing the
emperor wearig his new(s) clothes. I believe Bloggers
also act hand-in-hand just as the MSM act
hand-in-glove with the said Minister.

This should have been uploaded yesterday, but since
Desi was away in B'g, B'd Wolfish Koala Lumpuh for

insisted he help wash away my wayward ways so that I

‘No’ to street protests
Majority support use of laws to preserve harmony

PETALING JAYA: A large majority of Malaysians are
against street protests and have backed the
government’s decision to use the laws to stop anyone
from threatening racial peace and harmony.

This was revealed in a survey conducted by the Merdeka
Centre from Dec 17 to 21.

Eight hundred and sixty one respondents from
throughout the country, who were randomly selected
along the lines of state of residence, ethnicity,
gender and age (21 and above) were interviewed over
the telephone for the survey.

To a question on whether the Government should use all
the legal means it has to stop individuals and groups
from threatening racial peace and harmony, 73% agreed
to such a tough stance.

However, 15% of those surveyed disagreed with such
actions.

The survey also showed that 52% of Malaysians
supported the Prime Minister in the strong action
taken against the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf)
while 25% disagreed.

Fifty-two percent of the respondents felt that street
demonstrations were unacceptable for voicing one’s
views while 43% said it was acceptable.

Fifty-nine percent said that demonstrations were not
an effective way to achieve the objectives of the
protesters but 29% felt otherwise.

The respondents said that street protests not only
affected business in the country but also gave
Malaysia a bad name overseas.

Eighty-two percent of the respondents felt that
demonstrations disrupted business activities and
traffic in the city.

Seventy-three percent said it would affect the economy
while 80% of the respondents said the country’s image
would be tarnished by such activities.

To another question on whether they believed the
allegations by Hindraf that the Government carried out
ethnic cleansing and extremists-backed marginalisation
of the Indian community, 72% said “No”.

Fifty-six percent of the respondents felt that street
demonstrations or illegal public gatherings would
likely turn violent but 27% disagreed.

However, the response was almost evenly split on the
question of who or what was likely to be the main
cause for some demonstrations to turn violent.

While 32% said violence was caused by unruly
demonstrators, 29% believed instigators or
provocateurs in the crowd were to blame.

Twenty percent cited the actions of the police as
being the likely cause of violence.

When the respondents were asked if they were aware of
the two illegal demonstrations in Kuala Lumpur – 54%
said they were aware of Bersih’s protest on Nov 10
while 77% were aware of the illegal Hindraf gathering
on Nov 25.

DESIDERATA:

This sole report alone vindicates the stand taken by
many members of the Fifth Estate to boycott several of
the MSM -- such as The Star, the NST, Utusan Malaysia
ad nauseum -- because it confirms again that these
Fourth Estate residents, especially the chief editors,
are not ashamed in distorting news (4,000 people
gathring when it was closer to 40,000 in the strets of
Kuala Lumpur -- are they blind during daylight?),
crimes of omission of coverage (e.g BERSIH Walk as if
it did not happen...these GEICs saw only the Police
roadbloacks and blamed the traffic jams on the
marchers instead!), et cetera.

So the eVidence:

The second paragraph reproduced, focused on the parts
highlited (BOLDED THUS):

"This was revealed in a survey conducted by the
Merdeka Centre from Dec 17 to 21."

The news report was written by the Reporter, processed
and approved by several levels of editors(Desk, Asst
News, Chief News, and finally GEIC...) the day before,
i.e. Dec 16, to appear the following day (Dec 17).

But Merdeka Centre is still in progress conductingthe
survey -- until Dec 21, which is THREE DAYS away!

So who was the seer in the news room with futuristic
eyes?
The double Datuk is indeed blessed with such talent of
forseeing the future.
Or as Dr Say Yee How of howsy.BC says: Someone at the
People's Paper invented the TIME MACHINE?

Will Merdeka Centre explain itself whether it acted in
cahoots? OR it should sue for 20million (Remember Desi
wit' a 30% cu, eh? The idea came from Desi:)

Someone had committed a capital crime in Journalism of
"Manufacturing News".
In a socity truly practising news ethics, the GEIC
would be given a Show-Case letter.
But in BolehLand, he might be gifted a pat on the
back".
That Minister may even nominate the responsible GEIC
for a Tan Sri-ship next.

malaysia-today.net indeed has a "new look" and attractive and easy-on-the-eye -- as I discovered when I surfed to brother Dr Mave at maverickysm.blogspot.com, and the host Raja Petra Kamarudin's latest Post is too important to ignore.

Desi feels the message deserves wider circulation and so this is a more-than-happy COMMUNITY SERVICE MESSAGE I'm sending around as Food for Thought now that Trurkey is hard to come by as the price has sky-rocketed. Some pints and hardball Qs by Raja Petra were highlighted (THUS BOLDED by Desi), and my ER are urged to chew over those questions. I don't mind the absence of turkey, I have a caring Malaysian who asks intelligent Qs to guide some Malaysians who only know how to complaint, and then sit back and DO NOTHING!Quoting Raja Petra's concluding para hear: "All that crap we Malaysians are being fed with. I suppose Malaysians are so stupid they deserve this."

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Yes, while the HINDRAF, PEKIDA and DAMAI MALAYSIA brouhaha kept us distracted, a crime boss is quietly released on the personal instruction of the Attorney-General. And the police officers who detained him are going to be crucified for ‘wrongfully’ detaining this crime boss.

On 10 November 2007, BERSIH organised its march to the Istana Negara. The New Straits Times reported that 4,000 people turned out that day. That same government-owned propaganda organ masquerading as a mainstream newspaper also reported the IGP as saying that 4,000 police personnel were mobilised that day. This would give us a ratio of one-to-one. But looking at the photographs in both the newspapers and on the internet it could clearly be seen that the yellow shirts swamped the red helmets. It would be impossible for the ratio to be one-to-one if the yellow practically buried the red.

According to the organisers, they estimated the crowd at about 50,000. And they estimated the crowd that was prevented from reaching the Istana Negara as roughly another 30,000. The intelligence agencies, however, have estimated the total crowd -- that which reached the Istana Negara plus that which was prevented from doing so -- at 138,000. So this is how far the estimates vary; from 4,000 by the New Straits Times to 138,000 by the intelligence agencies. Invariably, your guess is as good as mine on what the real figure should be -- but an educated guess of 80,000 would not be far off.

Then, on 25 November 2007, we had the HINDRAF march where, again, the crowd was estimated as between 5,000 to 30,000. From what I saw I would believe the 30,000 figure. And, again, it was estimated that about 20,000 were prevented from getting through. But what was interesting about the HINDRAF affair was not the size of the crowd but the events of the day plus the post-rally events that followed soon after that.

When the organisers realised that the police had cordoned the area surrounding the British High Commission and that there was no way they could get through, they decided to break up into a few groups, just like what BERSIH had done, and meet at various points, just like what BERSIH had done. Around midnight, they started moving into Batu Caves and by 2.00am the crowd began to build up. At 4.00am, the crowd had reached optimum level and the police pushed them back into the temple compound and locked the main gate.

The crowd was now trapped and there was no way it could launch the march to the British High Commission. Also, a march that far would take some time since Batu Caves is not quite near Jalan Ampang. It was apparent that all the crowd could do was to assemble and probably make some noise as a show of strength. The crowd was certainly not going anywhere.

At 4.20am, the police commenced firing tear gas and water cannons into the crowd. But the crowd was within the temple ground and trapped behind closed gates. No one was attempting to crash the gate or to start a march. What was the reason for shooting into the crowd? If the reason for opening fire was because they had assembled illegally, how was it possible for them to disperse when the police would not open the gate to allow them to leave the temple ground and go home? The crowd was assembled only because they had been pushed into the temple ground and the gate locked behind them thereby trapping them inside.

The police said that they did not open fire and shoot into the temple grounds. The photographs tell another story. And eyewitnesses said that the MIC Youth leaders were amongst the police and that it was they who gave the police the order to shoot. Yes, MIC Youth was there but they were mingling with the police, not with the crowd within the temple ground. Would the police have opened fire considering the crowd was already trapped inside and had nowhere to go if the MIC Youth had not given the order to do so?

The HINDRAF organisers had estimated a crowd of 10,000. Even they were surprised when the crowd ballooned to 30,000. Where did this additional 20,000 come from? And was it coincidental that the majority of the people were MIC members? Were these MIC people turncoats who had now abandoned MIC and were wholeheartedly behind HINDRAF? Or were they diehard MIC members who were sent to infiltrate the crowd to make up the numbers and give an impression that matters are more serious than what many imagine?

In short, how much of the HINDRAF rally of 25 November 2007 was for real and how much was staged? And if much of it was staged are the HINDRAF leaders and organisers aware that they had been set up? It appears that HINDRAF was played for a sucker and its leaders set up as fall guys.

This theory would be hard to prove if not for the Internal Security Act detentions of the five key players of HINDRAF. The ‘HINDRAF 5’ were detained under Section 8 of the Internal Security Act instead of the ‘normal’ Section 73. “What’s the difference?” you may ask.

Well, under Section 73, they would be detained by Bukit Aman or the Special Branch for at least 60 days where they would be subjected to around-the-clock interrogation, 24-7. The Special Branch ‘owns’ you for 60 days and they would spend the first 30 days interrogating you to find out who are behind you, where you get your funding from, who you are working with, your links inside and outside the country, your game-plan, your endgame, your strategies and objectives, your strengths and weaknesses, and much more. In short, they want to know everything and anything even down to how many strands of pubic hair you have. The second 30 days will then be spent ‘turning you over’. You will be shown how and where you have erred plus they will ‘help’ you ‘see the light’ and assist you in returning to the ‘right path’.

These 60 days will help Bukit Aman and the Special Branch determine if you are really dangerous and a threat to national security or whether you are just misguided and have unwittingly been used by certain people without you being aware of it. They will also determine whether you can be rehabilitated or have in fact already been rehabilitated within those 60 days and therefore can be safely released and allowed to go home. Only if they are confident that you are still a threat to national security or that you cannot be rehabilitated or that they would need more time to rehabilitate you would they further detain you under Section 8 of the Internal Security Act and send you to the Kamunting detention centre for an unspecified period of time. Seldom would they straight away detain you under Section 8 and send you to Kamunting without spending at least 60 days with you to probe what it is that makes you tick and how to make you ‘un-tick’.

Now, the HINDRAF 5 were not subjected to this 60 days interrogation and turning over process. Bukit Aman or the Special Branch did not get their hands on the HINDRAF 5. They were straight away detained under Section 8 -- which means the Special Branch could not touch them as they would now come under the Prisons Department and not Bukit Aman. The police detain you under Section 73. The Minister detains you under Section 8.

This is most puzzling indeed. Why did the police not detain the HINDRAF 5 under Section 73 of the Internal Security Act? Isn’t Bukit Aman or the Special Branch curious about who are behind HINDRAF? Isn’t Bukit Aman or the Special Branch curious about who are funding HINDRAF? Isn’t Bukit Aman or the Special Branch curious about whether the HINDRAF 5 are the real masterminds or merely the pawns of another higher power? Isn’t Bukit Aman or the Special Branch curious about whether HINDRAF has links with foreign terrorist groups like the Tamil Tigers? Isn’t Bukit Aman or the Special Branch curious the game-plan and endgame of HINDRAF? Isn’t Bukit Aman or the Special Branch curious about HINDRAF’s strategies, objectives, strengths and weaknesses? Umno says that Anwar Ibrahim is behind HINDRAF. Would Bukit Aman or the Special Branch not want to know whether this is true so that if it is true then Anwar too can be detained under the Internal Security Act? And how would they find out about all this if the HINDRAF 5 are detained under Section 8 instead of Section 73 of the Internal Security Act whereby the Prisons Department and not Bukit Aman has control over the Hindraf 5?

Yes, it appears like there are certain people who walk in the corridors of power who would like the secrets of HINDRAF to remain a secret. It appears like there are certain people who walk in the corridors of power who do not want Bukit Aman or the Special Branch to find out what HINDRAF is really all about. Bukit Aman and the Special Branch must be dying from curiosity. But they can’t do anything about it because the HINDRAF 5 comes under the Prisons Department and not Bukit Aman. And it was the Minister and not the police who detained the HINDRAF 5.
Umno says that HINDRAF is a threat to national security. Umno says that HINDRAF is anti-Malay and anti-Islam. Umno says that HINDRAF plans to organise an anti-Malay rally in Kampong Baru. Some of the HINDRAF people did in fact march through Kampong Baru on 25 November 2007. And the police opened fire on them and sent them running. Then the Malays in Kampong Baru opened the doors to their homes and invited the HINDRAF people in to take shelter from the police.

There was no Indian-Malay tension that day on 25 November 2007. The Malay police opened fire on the HINDRAF marchers and the Malays in Kampong Baru gave the Indians shelter. The so-called Indian-Malay racial tension is in the minds of the Umno people. And Umno is spreading rumours and circulating SMSess to give the impression that racial tensions are increasing and that there is a danger race riots will break out.

To further impress Malaysians that race riots are imminent they got this chap called Mohd Saiful Adil Daud to form DAMAI MALAYSIA, supposedly an amalgamation of 395 Malay NGOs with a combined membership of 1.5 million Malays. That is the biggest crap I have ever heard. You would be hard-pressed to find 39 Malay NGOs, let alone 395. And even then some of these so-called NGOs have less than a dozen members. Why did they not list down the names of these 395 Malay NGOs? They couldn’t because these NGOs do not exist. And certainly these 1.5 million members do not exist either.

Saiful is actually the runner of a well-known Malay gangster called Drs Suleiman a.k.a. Man Brandy. Man Brandy used to sell ganja around the Kampong Baru mosque area in the days before May 13. He then escaped to Indonesia when the police hunted him down for murder and that was where be bought his very impressive ‘Drs’ title.
:
:
:

The mastermind behind DAMAI MALAYSIA is Mamak Rezal Merican Naina Merican of GPMS. Their job is to stir the Malays into a feeding frenzy like what Datuk Harun Idris did on 13 May 1969. Unfortunately the effort failed. The Malays today are not like the Malays of 1969 and it is not so easy to incite them into an anti-non-Malay frenzy like how they did on 13 May 1969. Even the rumours they spread and the SMSess they circulated did not work. And the so-called PEKIDA rally in Kampong Baru on Sunday, 16 December 2007, the supposedly prelude to May 13 II, did not happen as planned. Nobody turned up except for the truckloads of riot police and Special Branch officers who patrolled a deserted street. It reminds me of how they cordoned an empty Dataran Merdeka on 10 November 2007.

But there is something else that happened during this same period and which went unnoticed and unreported. On 10 December 2007, the Attorney-General wrote the Deputy Minister of Internal Security a letter asking him to release Goh Cheng Poh a.k.a ‘Tengku’ Goh from Restricted Residence. As reported earlier, Tengku Goh is number two to BK Tan, the head honcho of the organised crime syndicate that controls the drugs, prostitution, loan-sharking and illegal gambling network all over Malaysia. He also controls the police computerised information system.

The next day, Johari Baharum released Tengku Goh in spite of the fact he has in his possession half a dozen signed Affidavits and other damaging evidence which implicates top police personnel with having links with the underworld. Two of these Affidavits are in fact signed by the underworld figures themselves.

Johari’s action of releasing Tengku Goh has just hung the many police officers plus the Director of the Commercial Crime Division who were instrumental in detaining Tengku Goh. What Johari is ‘saying’ is that he agrees Tengku Goh is a victim of a mala fide detention and that all the allegations against the latter are false. This can only mean that the police are crooked while the so-called ‘crime boss’ is an innocent victim of trumped-up charges.

And the agency that has been tasked with fixing up the police officers is the Anti-Corruption Agency which is taking action against the police officers, not for the crime of corruption but for the ‘technical’ offence of wrongly filling in the forms. And the HINDRAF 5 are detained under Ministerial order under Section 8 and not Section 73 of the Internal Security Act so that the Special Branch and Bukit Aman can’t get their hands on them and interrogate them to get to the bottom of the whole thing.

Anyway, we have previously reported in great detail this whole affair of the links between the Royal Malaysian Police and the organised crime syndicate. The 11 earlier episodes can be read below -- so we really do not need to recap the events thus far. Suffice to say we conclude this Twelfth Episode the way we had forecasted -- and that is the boss of bosses of the underworld syndicate walks free. You can’t say that Malaysia Today lies or is wrong in its forecast, though this time around I wish we had been wrong.

All that crap we Malaysians are being fed with. I suppose Malaysians are so stupid they deserve this.

Manufacturing News

And being caught with the pants down!

The Minister of Propaganda-ganda Wang Anda, a lonely datuk, would have been mighty proud yesterday to read a page N3 item and that he had a well-trained disciple in a double datuk who surpassed the sifu himself in manufacturing nu'es. And the nudity exposed by mGf howsy.blogspot.com and maverickysm.blogspot.com. who achieved a sort of ecstasy I think in seeing the emperor wearig his new(s) clothes. I believe Bloggers also act hand-in-hand just as the MSM act hand-in-glove with the said Minister.

This should have been uploaded yesterday, but since Desi was away in B'g, B'd Wolfish Koala Lumpuh for most part of te wickedend,my counsellor Mr Coww insisted he help wash away my wayward ways so that I do not stray too far away from the heavenly path. I quietly appreciate his good intentions, though I also quietly whispered to myself that "The path to Heaven is strewn with lots of good intention."Okay, this quote is not Desi, so don't take me to court, royal or otherVice.

So this B'G, B'd Wolf in Section 16, Petaling Jaya did not escape the slaughter house. Desi 'invested' RM1.20 to get hold of a copy of the Print Edition last evening as hard copy evidence -- yeah, in the steal of twilight! Lest I be caught varying my boycott pledge --:

‘No’ to street protests
Majority support use of laws to preserve harmony

PETALING JAYA: A large majority of Malaysians are against street protests and have backed the government’s decision to use the laws to stop anyone from threatening racial peace and harmony.

This was revealed in a survey conducted by the Merdeka Centre from Dec 17 to 21.

Eight hundred and sixty one respondents from throughout the country, who were randomly selected along the lines of state of residence, ethnicity, gender and age (21 and above) were interviewed over the telephone for the survey.

To a question on whether the Government should use all the legal means it has to stop individuals and groups from threatening racial peace and harmony, 73% agreed to such a tough stance.

However, 15% of those surveyed disagreed with such actions.

The survey also showed that 52% of Malaysians supported the Prime Minister in the strong action taken against the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) while 25% disagreed.

Fifty-two percent of the respondents felt that street demonstrations were unacceptable for voicing one’s views while 43% said it was acceptable.

Fifty-nine percent said that demonstrations were not an effective way to achieve the objectives of the protesters but 29% felt otherwise.

The respondents said that street protests not only affected business in the country but also gave Malaysia a bad name overseas.

Eighty-two percent of the respondents felt that demonstrations disrupted business activities and traffic in the city.

Seventy-three percent said it would affect the economy while 80% of the respondents said the country’s image would be tarnished by such activities.

To another question on whether they believed the allegations by Hindraf that the Government carried out ethnic cleansing and extremists-backed marginalisation of the Indian community, 72% said “No”.

Fifty-six percent of the respondents felt that street demonstrations or illegal public gatherings would likely turn violent but 27% disagreed.

However, the response was almost evenly split on the question of who or what was likely to be the main cause for some demonstrations to turn violent.

While 32% said violence was caused by unruly demonstrators, 29% believed instigators or provocateurs in the crowd were to blame.

Twenty percent cited the actions of the police as being the likely cause of violence.

When the respondents were asked if they were aware of the two illegal demonstrations in Kuala Lumpur – 54% said they were aware of Bersih’s protest on Nov 10 while 77% were aware of the illegal Hindraf gathering on Nov 25.

DESIDERATA:

This sole report alone vindicates the stand taken by many members of the Fifth Estate to boycott several of the MSM -- such as The Star, the NST, Utusan Malaysia ad nauseum -- because it confirms again that these Fourth Estate residents, especially the chief editors, are not ashamed in distorting news (4,000 people gathring when it was closer to 40,000 in the strets of Kuala Lumpur -- are they blind during daylight?), crimes of omission of coverage (e.g BERSIH Walk as if it did not happen...these GEICs saw only the Police roadbloacks and blamed the traffic jams on the marchers instead!), et cetera.

So the eVidence:

The second paragraph reproduced, focused on the parts highlited (BOLDED THUS):

"This was revealed in a survey conducted by the Merdeka Centre from Dec 17 to 21."

The news report was written by the Reporter, processed and approved by several levels of editors(Desk, Asst News, Chief News, and finally GEIC...) the day before, i.e. Dec 16, to appear the following day (Dec 17).

But Merdeka Centre is still in progress conductingthe survey -- until Dec 21, which is THREE DAYS away!

So who was the seer in the news room with futuristic eyes?
The double Datuk is indeed blessed with such talent of forseeing the future.
Or as Dr Say Yee How of howsy.BC says: Someone at the People's Paper invented the TIME MACHINE?

Will Merdeka Centre explain itself whether it acted in cahoots?
OR it should sue for 20million (Remember Desi wit' a 30% cu, eh? The idea came from Desi:)

Someone had committed a capital crime in Journalism of "Manufacturing News".
In a socity truly practising news ethics, the GEIC would be given a Show-Case letter.
But in BolehLand, he might be gifted a pat on the back".
That Minister may even nominate the responsible GEIC for a Tan Sri-ship next.

This Blogger Desi, knotty as usual,is waiting to see more lapdogs exposed, as "running" dogs. I prefer my obedient, stationary laptop. He is not responsible for the many "typos" at Desi's Place okay, the galloping hoRst is. And I must apologise to my ER, especially Dr SM Yeoh, for this less-than-capital sin! Tehtarik as punishment Okay!:):)

I Re-cycle RPK's Report Sourced from AFP

AFP stands for Agency France Press.
RPK stands for Raja Petra Kamarudin, who I use often as source for political news in NegaraKu.

So when I recycle RPK's report, I am only a sub-messenger, and I hope the Gomen won't shoot me. They use mesingan, ah, do they?

14/12:
US demands due process for arrested Malaysian activists

The United States demanded Thursday that Malaysia provide fair treatment to five leaders of a rights group held under a security law that allows for indefinite detention without trial.

The five from the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), pushing for an end to discrimination of ethnic Indians in multi-racial Malaysia, were picked up Thursday and ordered held under the feared Internal Security Act (ISA).

"Our expectation as a government is that these individuals would be provided the full protections under Malaysian law, that they would be given due process, that they would be accorded all the rights accorded to any other citizen, and that this be done in a speedy and transparent manner," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.

Hindraf enraged the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi last month by mustering at least 8,000 people to the streets of Kuala Lumpur to highlight various issues facing ethnic Indians, including lack of economic opportunities and destruction of Hindu temples.

Police used tear gas, water cannons and baton charges to break up the protests.

"It is our firm position that those individuals who want to peacefully express themselves in a political forum or any other forum should be allowed to do so," McCormack told reporters.

Human rights groups have campaigned for the abolition of the ISA, a law that they say has been abused by the authorities.

The ISA is currently being used to hold more than 100 people, including about 80 alleged Islamic militants.

Human Rights Watch, a US group, said the arrest was "outrageous."

"We have said over and over again that the ISA should be abolished and there is no room for holding people, never mind indefinitely, without charge and trial," said Mickey Spiegel, the group's Asia division senior researcher.

The Malaysian government, led by ethnic Muslim Malays since independence, has always used deadly race riots in 1969 as a reason for controls on freedom, even though some groups believe that after 50 years of independence, Malaysians are matured enough to discuss their grievances openly.

"Malaysian authorities are obligated, like any sovereign countries' government, to balance the need for public order with equally important need for robust and free debate of issues important to Malaysian citizens," a State Department official said.

"It is our hope that the Malaysia government will allow the freest possible debate," said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a US non-profit law firm that helps defend freedom of all religions, charged that the destruction of Hindu temples -- some built before the start of the British colonial period almost two centuries ago -- could be an attempt to erase Hindu heritage in Malaysia.

Hindraf claimed one temple was being demolished every three weeks.

"What I have heard from people is really that in destroying these temples, they are trying to destroy evidence of how long the Hindu faith has been a part of Malaysia, particularly in the context of advancing Islamisation and of the equation of Islam with nationalism in Malaysia," said Angela Wu, the Fund's international law director.

Hindraf has filed a four trillion dollar lawsuit against Britain for alleged atrocities suffered by Indians whose forefathers were brought as indentured laborers to Malaysia during colonial rule. — AFP

ANWAR IBRAHIM RELEASES ENTIRE LINGAM RECORDING FOLLOWING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A ROYAL COMMISSION

After I first made public the Lingam video clip nearly three months ago, the government has finally announced the composition and terms of reference of a Royal Commission to investigate judicial corruption.

In spite of the initial stonewalling and the much belated setting up of a three-man panel, we view this concession by the government as a positive first step in restoring the integrity of the nation's judiciary. We applaud the thousands of Malaysian people who have demanded reform of the judiciary.

The terms of reference of the Royal Commission unfortunately fall short of a broad mandate to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the crisis facing the judiciary, which was widely demanded by the Bar Council, NGOs, and other institutions of civil society. The video provides proof that the rot is pervasive and has corrupted the highest levels of the judiciary. We regret that the Commission will not be empowered to address the entirety of the problems represented by the video.

The inclusion of Tan Sri Haidar and Tan Sri Steve Shim as commissioners also raises some concerns. The Royal Commission has been charged with investigating matters concerning all the names mentioned in the tape, including my own, referred to as the "Anwar Case" in the tape. However, it must be pointed out that Tan Sri Haidar and Tan Sri Steve Shim were among the judges who heard my case in the Federal Court. In this regard, we believe that the onus is on them to remove any semblance of bias or conflict of interest which may arise in the course of the proceedings pursuant to the Royal Commission's inquiry.

Nevertheless, we remain committed to giving our full cooperation to the Royal Commission with the sincere hope that the members will not shirk their responsibilities in carrying their duties without fear or favour. Bribery, judge fixing, injustices perpetuated against many and wrongful conviction are serious problems which demand serious attention.

In fulfilling my earlier promise, I am releasing the entire 14-minute video clip and I pledge to cooperate fully with the Royal Commission. The video can be viewed at:

ANWAR IBRAHIM MENDEDAHKAN KLIP PENUH VIDEO LINGAM BERIKUTAN PENUBUHAN SURUHANJAYA DIRAJA

Conning Around Wakil(L) Rakyat in BB

It's now 8.17am as I start writing this short Post as soon I have to join some buddies in eating B&B with plain kopi-kau -- no tehtarik as the weather is a byte cold so they say kopi-kau-kau warms up the body better than a mate's, you esteemed readers tell me!

As I ran off to Petaling Sreet, I saw this attractive Blogger's news summary ("attractive refers to both the Blogger plus the Post, see Desi is teaching you goode English although I think one M son of M is not benefiting from my lecture. He prefers RPK's, I heard!:)

Lulu Thinks Lee Chong Ming Should Run For Bukit Bintang Again

With 1.5 million members backing him, considering that our population is 27 million, and if 50% of our population is of voting age, and that the NGOs are mainly concentrated in the Klang Valley, that means he would have the backing of more than 30-40%...

Question: Why are Bukit Bintang wakilL Rakyat so expert in killing off the spirits of their constituents, also party members.
I believe that MP for several terms -- now turncoat-greatest Social Activist NegaraKu has birthed -- dareth NOT pay any return visits to Bukit Bintang because constituents and ex-DAP members like Desi would throw rotten eggs, yes, inclduing centrury-old wans, at theat "r.....l" MP sho soul'd out.

For ....millions, I heard. Did you hear?

After this guy who was once an esteemed an Opposition leader has now-self-APpointed-BN-spokesman getting more press coverage (almost daily!)than the MCA chief himself. Yes, for once the MSM is free -- to report on all the sycophantic mouthings of a soul'd out ex_MP but still a wakilL rakyat on the chicken-run.
