Husam welcomes Anwar back to Parliament

The decision by YB Dato Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to vacate her seat today has enabled the Pakatan Rakyat to close ranks. The relentless attacks (against PR) by the BN in the media over the last two weeks have ceased immediately with this. Insyallah, PAS will extend its best and its full support.

It it has been willed that Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim would win the vacant Permatang Pauh seat, it would mean that Anwar will be a Member of Parliament in two months. Anwar's victory will put greater pressure on the leadership of Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. (Abdullah's) hope to use PAS (the Umno-PAS unity talk) to remain relevant to Umno will be dashed by this new development.

This by-election will take place earlier than the Umno elections in December. Its outcome will to some extent influence the decision of Umno delegates as to whether Abdullah is still relevant or not as their President.

Anwar's return to Parliament is timely as the economy is expected to continue its decline. The agenda of reforms that PR is promoting needs him to be in the Dewan Rakyat.

Wan Azizah Maketh Way for Significant Other

to enter Parliament via Permatang Pauh.

SALUTE
to a fine Opposition Leader who served her nation well for a decade.
As a journalist watching her rise as founder-head of Parti Keadilan Negara
while her husband languished in jail on trumped-up charges, the Eye-doctor
growing synonymously with the JUSTICE symbol has inspired a whole generation
of Malaysians, and she deserves all well-meaning Malaysians' best wishes.

The baton is being appropriately passed on to the de facto PKR chief, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. WE, THE RAKYAT, await with bated breath for the inevitability of CHANGE. Natural progression from MARCH 8, 2008 WHEN THE RAKYAT SPOKE WITH ONE VOICE FOR KETUANAN RAKYAT. No more Ketuanan Melayu, Ketuanan China, Ketuanan India, Ketuanan Kadazan, Ketuanan Iban and KKK whatever sectarian community living in NegaraKu.

Press Statement by Datuk Seri Wan Azizah

JULY 31, 2008, PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA

After deliberating with my family, the Keadilan party leadership and our partners in the Pakatan Rakyat, I have officially submitted my resignation as Member of Parliament of Permatang Pauh to the Speaker of Parliament YB Tan Sri Datuk Pandikar Amin Bin Hj. Mulia today to make way for my husband, Anwar Ibrahim, to contest as a candidate for Pakatan Rakyat in a by-election as soon as possible.

This is consistent with our goals towards securing a Parliamentary majority and forming a new government within this year. This decision is the right decision for Malaysia.

The nation now faces some of the greatest challenges it has encountered since gaining independence. The UMNO-led Barisan Nasional government has mismanaged the economy and steered the nation towards a catastrophe. It has allowed the integrity of the justice system to fall into deeper infamy. It has stroked the flames of racism and driven a wedge of mistrust between Malays, Chinese and Indians, while thoroughly neglecting the needs of the indigenous peoples of Sabah and Sarawak.

Anwar Ibrahim has articulated a vision for Malaysia that has brought hope to the people. He has the experience and intelligence to reinvigorate our economy, and the charisma and integrity to unite the Malaysian people and restore credibility to our institutions of governance.

I will continue to serve as President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat and as chairperson of the Yayasan Aman (Peace Foundation).

I wholeheartedly thank my supporters in Permatang Pauh who have stood by me in the most difficult of times since September 1998 and have shared in the joy of victory we all experienced on March 8, 2008.

The future of our nation lies in the dedication and commitment to justice and freedom that I have experienced as your representative in Parliament and I look forward to many more years of serving you with sincerity and with humility.

DATUK SERI WAN AZIZAH WAN ISMAIL

President
Parti Keadilan Rakyat

— KENYATAAN MEDIA UNTUK EDARAN SEGERA —

31HB. JULAI 2008, PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA

Enough of peeping into hotel or condo rooms-lah!

The world's economy shows signs of entering a huge recession; and I believe the blardy government is not interested in fixing our economy which will in tandem follow the US economy's collapse predicted to happen right after the December 2008 US presidential election.

Meanwhile, our government and various agencies keep on peeping into hotel and condo rooms -- after the failed Mohd Ali Rustam's failed Squad Skodeng, and the similar clone of the FT Reilgious Department -- to pry into Private Citizen's affair/s which actually fall within the domain of God and Man, nobody else's business unless the peeper is Anointed as God's keeper.

EU points at U.S. for WTO collapse

By William Schomberg REUTERS
Wed Jul 30, 3:34 PM ET

BRUSSELS (Reuters)
- The European Union's trade chief Peter Mandelson said on Wednesday the United States helped to bring down global trade talks this week when its negotiators shunned a compromise proposal at a key juncture in the talks.

The United States hit back and accused the EU of having tried to undo a carefully crafted set of compromises because it was under fire from European governments including France.

The proposal in question was drawn up by the EU on Tuesday in a last-gasp bid to unblock an impasse over an agricultural trade issue being discussed by seven powers at the centre of the World Trade Organization (WTO) talks.

Mandelson initially declined to point fingers, calling the collapse of the talks a collective failure. But his frustration at Washington was clear in a weblog he wrote on Wednesday, describing the events of the previous day when the talks failed.

"...when WTO chief (Pascal) Lamy reconvenes the Group of Seven negotiators at midday, the Indians and the Chinese express reservations and the U.S. rejects the proposal outright, much to Lamy's understandable frustration," Mandelson said.

"It seems that the issue on which we have diverged is more important for some than agreement as a whole. Instead of reaching out for help to solve the problem, they are digging in," he said.

After that, a U.S. official "simply does not show up" when negotiations resume and U.S. trade chief Susan Schwab, heading into the finale of the negotiations, stopped off in the press room "to get her rebuttal in first," Mandelson wrote.

"The session that follows is tense and angry and Lamy does not allow it to go on for long," he said.

"It is bad enough to be facing defeat in the last mile of such a marathon. It's worse to realize that some of the people across the table, instead of working for success, are in reality preparing for failure."

U.S. COUNTERS

"The EU's anger is misdirected, misguided and being misused," said Gretchen Hamel, a spokeswoman for Schwab.

The trade official who missed the resumption of negotiations was in consultations with Schwab at the time, she said.

"To deflect from their own domestic concerns, the EU self-appointed their own official to renegotiate something that had already been agreed upon."

Hamel was referring to compromise proposals drawn up by Lamy on Friday in a bid to save the talks and which several of the WTO powers, including the EU and the United States, accepted as a way to take the negotiations forward.

The seven-year Doha negotiations have been dogged by differences often over the degree to which big developing countries such as China, India, Brazil or South Africa should open up their markets in farm and industrial goods.

Tuesday's breakdown after nine days of tense negotiations was over rules allowing developing countries to erect temporary barriers to foreign food products in the event of import surges.

The United States feared the new rules would close off markets for its farmers, who also faced a lower limit on their subsidies under another part of the planned WTO deal.

In an interview with Reuters, Mandelson said Washington's demand that its farmers get new market access in return for less subsidies had hindered the Doha round, launched in 2001 to help poor countries develop, especially in agriculture.

"The dollar-for-dollar approach does not add up in any way," Mandelson said. "Yes, there has to be balance, yes there has to be reciprocity, but in a development round a dollar-for-dollar approach is never going to stack up."

Fed extends actions to ease global credit squeeze
From NST Online, Published: 2008/07/31

WASHINGTON: The Federal Reserve took further steps yesterday to battle a global credit crunch, including an extension of an emergency lending program for investment firms facing a liquidity squeeze.

The Fed said it took the actions “in light of continued fragile circumstances in financial markets.”

In addition to the extension of credit to investment banks, the Fed said it would lengthen the terms of another program to help retail banks meet funding needs, and extend reciprocal credit arrangements with the European Central Bank (ECB) and Swiss National Bank to help European banks get dollar funding.

“The programs are designed to combat systemic risks to the financial system related to short-term funding pressures — pressures that can be significantly exaggerated by contagion and speculative bandwagon effects,” said economist Brian Bethune at Global Insight.

“These pressures re-emerged at the end of June and in early July — the fourth episode of severe pressures in the financial markets since the crisis erupted in US and European financial markets in August 2007.” The US central bank will extend past the original September expiration date to January 30 a program aimed at helping get liquidity to so-called primary dealers, big investments firms which have a relationship with the Fed.

The program was implemented after the collapse of Wall Street giant Bear Stearns, which faced a cash squeeze after being unable to borrow in private markets to fund operations.

It was the first time since the 1930s that the Fed had offered credit to non banks.

In a further step to help stressed investment firms, the central bank said the New York Fed would auction options for these firm to borrow Treasury securities to meet short-term cash needs. The Fed is adding US$50 billion to the program in addition to the US$200 billion offered through the program known as TSLF, or Term Securities Lending Facility.

Primary dealers eligible for the program include 19 big investment firms including Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch as well as foreign-based companies with US operations such as UBS and Daiwa Securities.

The Fed also yesterday announced a new longer-term loan program for banks under its term auction facility implemented last year to help depository institutions get liquidity without resorting to the Fed’s discount window, which sometimes carries a stigma.

The banks will be able to obtain loans for up to 84 days, up from the current 28 days.

Stephen Gallagher, economist at Societe Generale, said the new move will help banks facing problems providing liquidity for mortgages.

“The Fed wants to maintain easy financing during this time,” Gallagher said.

“Mortgage rates have been rising, but the direct benefit to the mortgage markets from this extension is dubious. Banks need to raise funding and the environment is poor. The Fed is offering banks additional support in this time period.”

In coordination with the Fed, the ECB and the Swiss central bank agreed to extend their swap lines to accommodate the longer maturities. These swaps allow the other central banks to provide dollar funding to financial firms in Europe.

The Fed authorised an increase in its dollar swap line with the ECB to US$55 billion from US$50 billion. The size of the SNB’s swap line remains at US$12 billion. Both are authorised through January 30.

Global Insight’s Bethune estimated that the previous programs “were equivalent to a reduction in effective short-term borrowing costs of about 25 to 30 basis points, and this latest expansion would bump this effective reduction in borrowing costs — perhaps by an additional 10 to 15 basis points — depending on market conditions.” - AFP

Cops want drastic action
By LOURDES CHARLES

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal police logistics department has recommended to the Home Ministry that the contracts of several regular firms who supplied them with sub-standard equipment be terminated or suspended immediately.

Its director Commissioner Datuk Mashuri Zainal said his department had to take such drastic action as the lives and health of police officers and men were at stake.

He said bullet-proof vests and other equipment like anti-riot gear, including helmets, purchased through direct negotiations had been put on hold, as they had not been fully tested by the department for their safety features.

“The special committee set up by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan to conduct pre-delivery inspection of equipment purchased has unearthed many scary details.

“Initial investigations by the committee also revealed the involvement of not only police officers and men, but also civil staff and unscrupulous suppliers appointed by the Home Ministry,” he told The Star.

At least 12 people, including police and civil staff, have been transferred and placed under investigation for alleged involvement in the matter.

Comm Mashuri said other shocking findings made by the special committee included the discovery of pigskin characteristics on the collar of SWAT boots. The Chemistry Department conducted a test on the boots and came to this conclusion.

The boots deal was projected to cost a whopping RM54mil.

Comm Mashuri said even drill boots used by recruits were not according to specifications and failed the test conducted by the Science and Technology Research Institute for Defence (STRIDE).

“The heels fall off easily and the material used is not waterproof, while the boots worn by traffic policemen are also not waterproof as required.

“What shocked us even more was that the boots worn by our Federal Reserve Unit personnel and those on United Nations duty in Timor Leste are not even nail-proof,” he added.

Comm Mashuri said the vision flicker lights, used during roadblocks, posed a threat to both the officers manning the roadblocks as well as to the motorists as they were not bright enough.

Even roadblock signage as well as the luminous cones had to be returned, as they were too flimsy and damaged easily.

The special committee, Comm Mashuri said, also inspected the single iron bed, mattress and pillow used by police recruits following frequent complaints.

“We found the iron rods used for the beds to be thinner than specified, while the pillows did not meet Malaysian standards, and were fire hazards.

“Our officers are uncovering more and more shoddy dealings as they probe further into the matter,” he said, adding that even the machetes (parangs) were smaller than specified, rusted easily and broke when used to chop branches.

Comm Mashuri said he and his officers would continue to conduct stringent checks as required under circular SPP 5/2007 issued by the Treasury involving the management of moveable assets.

The circular requires the receiving officer to ensure goods received met the required specifications, including testing them and ensuring the measurements, including weight, quality and quantity, were according to the order.

The goods must also be safe to use and in good working condition.

Many worried country going downhill

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1
— An opinion poll carried out early last month confirmed what many Malaysians already know: four months after the 12th General Election, the people think the country is going in the wrong direction and are concerned about economic issues.

The Merdeka Centre survey,
which only polled registered voters aged 21+, found that only 28% of respondents were satisfied with the way things were going in the country. The biggest concern is the economy, with 59% saying they were "worried over economic-related issues", followed by 10% citing concern over political matters.

Not surprisingly, only 40% of the voters polled in Peninsular Malaysia said they were satisfied with Barisan Nasional while 57% expressed satisfaction with Pakatan Rakyat. And only 42% of respondents said they were happy with the Prime Minister's performance.

Keeping in mind that the poll was carried out before Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's arrest and the surfacing of the Pas-Umno talks, only 11% of the respondents believed in the allegations of sexual misconduct against Anwar. A significant 66% agreed that "it was a politically motivated action to disrupt Anwar’s political career".

Significantly, confidence in the instituitions that would handle this matter is low, with just 33% of those polled saying they were confident.

Press Statement by Seven MCA PJ Utara Branches

MCA PJ UTARA 7 BRANCHES

PRESS CONFERENCE

THE SAIFUL BUKHARI MEDICAL REPORT

TUESDAY 29 JULY 2008, 11AM

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press.

We meet here today because we, being members of 7 branches of MCA PJ Utara representing more than 1000 members of MCA, wish to do our civic duty to the Rakyat.
We note that MCA cannot remain silent anymore, lest we be accused (if not already accused) of being accomplices to diabolical conspiracies.
In particular, we refer to the medical report widely publicized on the internet by Malaysia Today, malaysiakini and countless other blogs. We had also taken the liberty to check on the comments contained in the medical report dated 28 June 2008 conducted on Mohd Saiful Bukhari Bin Azlan by Dr Mohamed Osman Abdul Hamid, the Medical Officer at Hospital Pusrawi Sdn Bhd. Three doctors we have checked with have stated that the comments meant that the results for the alleged sodomy is ‘negative’. They also confirmed that a Doctor can never change a medical report.
Assuming that the said medical report is true – and we call on Hospital Pusrawi to confirm or deny this – then:

We call on the Police, the Attorney-General, the MCA top leadership and the UMNO top leadership to immediately reveal in full all the evidence against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and stop withholding vital evidence and decide to charge, or not to charge, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Deputy IGP Tan Sri Ismail Omar should also refrain from making statements that the internet reports on the said medical report were aimed at confusing the people when, in the same breath, he declines to comment on the medical report. Such statements by the Deputy IGP only serve to further the perception that the police is pulling out all stops to withhold evidence crucial to the innocence of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, a fellow citizen of our country, while at the same time fabricates, or attempts to fabricate, evidence against a fellow citizen of our country.

This “bogus charge” fiasco is also causing untold damage and hurt to our economy, our integrity as a nation. Daily, we are being compared to countries like Zimbabwe and other countries where despotic rulers reign. We cannot in all conscience be a party to the machinations by executive arms of the government to withhold/fabricate evidence against a citizen of our country.
Therefore, we urge the Police, the Attorney-General and the government to treat all our citizens fairly, with transparency, without withholding of crucial evidence and with the proper application of the rule of law.

Shameful Englsih MSM Omission!

Yesterday I spent lunch with a bilingual matey (fluent in Mandarin and competent in English, the vice versa of Desi-lah!:) and I told him to look out in the Chinese press for a news break flowing from Raja Petra Kamarudin's expose of a medical report by the DOCTOR who eamined Saiful which clearly stated there was NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER TO BACK UP SAIFUL'S CLAIM HE HAD BEEN SODOMISED!

Last night I caught up with the same buddy at a hawker centre for Satay-supper and he was happy to report "all the evening editions of Chinese papers including Nanyang" reported the news break ON THEIR FRONT PAGES, which wamred my heart as a newsman to know that the vernacular pres is "alive and kicking". This was confirmed this morning by the day's editions -- I had a hearty BF!

Blardy hell, later this morning I grabbed the New Straits Times paying RM1.20 for the copy, and I glanced at the Star print edition at a friend's shop -- NO, THE NEWS WAS NOT IN BOTH PAPERS ON THE FRONT PAGE, which to me, should be what the news value deserves, nothing less!

I spied after some effort in the "inside pages" -- you lazy BUMmers, go peep for yourself! -- but the news reports did not highlight the GIST of the matter, which is that a doctor who had examined Saiful on the day of his filing a police report alleging Sodomy had stated clearly there were NO SIGNS SHOWING THAT SAIFUL HAD VEVER BEEN SODOMISED AS COMPLAINED OF BY THE "PATIENT"! Instead, it went to the sedond topranked policeman to deny "the doctor was ever detained for three days" which was to me A SECONDARY ISSUE.

What about the core issue of Saiful's examination by the doctor, now reported to have gone into hiding with his family?

It's a shameful state of OMISSION of duty to report the news of the day by the English MSM.

Elegant silence on core issues facing Malaysia. INDEED, HO WEEP FOR NEGARAKU? mGf Kim Quek and I have writ countless times asking this Q in despair...God save us from scoundrels!

RPK's NEWS FLASH! The Government is re-enacting...

The Fugitive, 2008!

The doctor who examined Saiful has stated in his medical report that Saiful was never sodomised. Now the doctor is on the run -- from the Government!

FROM RAJA PETRA KAMARUDIN'S malaysia-today.net:

The doctor's report says it very clearly. Saiful was never sodomised, either by Anwar or anyone else. Why is the government still pursuing the case against Anwar? And why are they looking for the doctor who has now gone underground with his whole family?

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

On 21 July 2008, I published an article in this same column called HOW, YET AGAIN, THEY ARE TRYING TO FABRICATE EVIDENCE AGAINST ANWAR.

In that article I mentioned as follows:

You see, they asked a certain doctor from a certain hospital to conduct an examination on Saiful. The doctor did so and he came out with a report that said there is no evidence Anwar had ever penetrated or sodomised the young man. The police then picked up the doctor and detained him for three days. As much as they tried to force him to change his report to implicate Anwar he refused to do so.

Until today, the doctor stands by his report that there is no evidence Anwar had sodomised Saiful. He knows he is going to be made to pay for this but he doesn't care. He is not going to change his report and say that Anwar sodomised Saiful whatever they do to him. Exasperated, the police had to release Anwar on personal bond or police bail. The doctor refuses to doctor his report and neither does Anwar want to volunteer his new specimen.

Well, that doctor's name is Dr Mohamed Osman Abdul Hamid from the Hospital Pusrawi and he has now taken his entire family and has gone into hiding because the police are looking for him and they want him to change his medical report.

At 2.00pm on 28 June 2008, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Bin Azlan went to see Dr Mohamed Osman to complain about a pain he is suffering in his anus. Saiful told the doctor that he had been assaulted by 'a very important person' -- meaning, of course, sodomised by Anwar Ibrahim.

Dr Mohamed Osman examined Saiful but found no evidence that he had been sodomised, either by Anwar Ibrahim or anyone else for that matter. The doctor's report (which can be viewed below) says that there is zero (0) skin tearing, zero (0) active bleeding, zero (0) traces of pus, etc., which basically means he can't be suffering from a pain in the anus as what he alleges.

The doctor's diagnosis is that he rules out or TRO (to rule out) assault (sodomised). In short: Mohd Saiful Bukhari Bin Azlan is not suffering any pain in the anus and neither was he assaulted or sodomised in the anus.

Saiful then said he would like to make a police report so Dr Mohamed Osman suggested he go for a second medical examination at a government hospital. Saiful did so and the doctor at the government hospital also came out with the same diagnosis. Nevertheless, Saiful still made his police report at the pondok police in the hospital.

In spite of the doctors all confirming that Saiful was never sodomised, the police still pursued the case. Anwar Ibrahim was subsequently arrested by about 20 SWAT members in Balaclavas and armed to the teeth in a dramatic movie-style action-packed drama in front of his house after he had confirmed he would be reporting to the police station at 2.00pm as required.

The police detained Anwar in the lockup until the next morning and even brought him to the hospital for examination and to try to obtain his specimen for what the police say are for purposes of doing a DNA profile. The fact that the police already have Anwar's DNA profile from 1998, plus the doctors from both hospitals confirm that Saiful was never sodomised, did not seem to matter.

Clearly the government is attempting to fabricate evidence against Anwar and is trying to indict him on trumped-up charges of sodomy. And who but the slime-ball AG and scumbag IGP, the same two players in the 1998 episode, can be behind this latest travesty of justice.

The doctor's report says it very clearly. Saiful was never sodomised, either by Anwar or anyone else. Why is the government still pursuing the case against Anwar? And why are they looking for the doctor who has now gone underground with his whole family?

Civil society movements, NGOs and the Malaysian Bar Council must not remain silent. The police have already detained the doctor for three days but he still refuses to doctor his medical report. Anwar did not sodomise Saiful and the doctor's report says it very clearly. And the police also have a copy of this same report that I have published below so they know what I know. And now Malaysians also already know what I and the police know -- that Saiful was never sodomised by anyone.

ADDENDUMS
DESI: GO read the rest at RPK's weblog ... all truth-seeking Malaysians must help circulate the TRUTH OF THE MATTER as widely as possible and not let a Dr M's disciples repeat a despicable actto destory a potential PM of Malaysia. All our futures are at stake here,no less!

God save us from scoundrels!

Press statement by Dr. Lim Teck Ghee, Director, Centre for Policy Initiatives on Saiful’s Sodomy Allegation

The disclosure of an earlier medical report on Saiful’s allegations against Anwar has now been followed by a widely circulated – though not available in the mainstream mass media - copy of the report lodged at Hospital Pusrawi Sdn Bhd at 2.14 pm on 28 June 2008. This new report – and all the doubts and questions it raises – should not be concealed or kept out of public scrutiny by the mainstream media, the Government authorities or other interested parties for their own selfish interest.

Given the high political leadership stakes as well as enormous national and international interest in the new sodomy charge against the country’s most prominent opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim – and indirectly against the newly formed opposition front, Pakatan Rakyat - it is imperative that all Malaysians – in their individual and organizational capacities – should raise their voices to show their concern for the full, transparent, and fair disclosure of all the facts and developments in the case, and to demand that swift justice should prevail. Further attempts at one sided or politically biased and manipulative handling of the case will cause the nation even more grievous damage than what has already been inflicted.

AND from the Star Online, note the TIME-LINE, and let'skeepour fingers crossed if it sees daylight in tomorrow's PRINT edition!

Twist in sodomy saga (updated)

PETALING JAYA:
Police have slammed a news portal report, which claimed that a private hospital doctor who had examined Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had been arrested.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the articles were just another attempt by certain quarters to confuse the public over the on-going investigation into Mohd Saiful's police report alleging that he had been sodomised by PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The online articles posted a medical report which said there was “zero active bleeding”, “zero ulcer or pus” and “zero tear and scar” in Mohd Saiful’s anus.

The report from Pusrawi Hospital was signed by Dr Mohamed Osman Abdul Hamid at 2.14pm on June 28.

Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin, who also carried the report on his website, said this proved that Mohd Saiful was not sodomised by Opposition de facto leader Anwar.

“The police also have a copy of this report that I have published, so they know what I know,” he wrote.

Raja Petra also alleged that Dr Mohamed Osman had gone into hiding because the police wanted him to change his medical report to implicate Anwar.

“There is no truth to these allegations," said the Deputy IGP.

"In fact we interviewed the aforementioned doctor in the early stages of our investigation following the report lodged by Saiful.

“Neither did we arrest the doctor or detain him for three days as alleged in the Malaysia Today article. We do not have any plans to do so either,” Ismail said, declining to comment further.

PKR secretary-general Salehuddin Hashim said there needed to be a complete public disclosure of the facts of the case.

“The medical report appears to confirm what we have always believed – that the allegations against Anwar are without merit and are politically motivated.”

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said: “This is a very disturbing turn of developments and will subject Malaysia to a new spate of international bashing unless the police can come forward to throw light on the first medical report and the whereabouts of Dr Mohamed Osman.”

How the medical report was leaked, which is a breach of patient confidentiality, is unknown, but Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the Malaysian Medical Council must look into the case.

A top Health Ministry official said the leaked report was probably not a full report because it appeared to be documenting only the superficial.

A spokesperson from the hospital said a statement would be issued soon.

YESTERDAY
...

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

This press statement is issued as the outcome of the “Road Map to Local Government Elections” Conference jointly organized by the Malacca Bar Committee, Centre for Policy Initiatives and Civil Society Initiative for Parliamentary Reform (CSI-Parliament) on July 26 2008 in Malacca.

Participants at the one day conference adopted the following resolutions:

1. the restoration of local elections constitutes an important step forward in reviving democracy, improving the standard of governance, and checking the scourge of corruption, excesses and mismanagement presently plaguing the urban population in Malaysia;

Footprints in the sand...

I googled and it led to www.footprints-inthe-sand.com, stating "The Official Website for
Footprints in the Sand operated by the estate of Mary Stevenson .

I dedicate this posting to a mGf sweets Down Under who introduced the POEM to me (I think she tried to repay my fielding her DESIDERATA by Max Ehrmann as a sort of barter trade.:)

Enjoy The Poem:

http://www.footprints-inthe-sand.com/index.php?page=Poem/Poem.php

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"

The Lord replied,
"The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you."

Welcome

Footprints in the Sand
has been seen in print by people the world over since the late 1940's. All that time no author has been credited with this immortal work, only 'Author Anonymous' has appeared at the bottom. This web site was created to bring to light the story behind 'Footprints in the Sand' and its author Mary Stevenson (Zangare).

For many years handwritten copies were distributed by Mary to those who needed something to give them comfort at a low point in their lives. It was sometime after this that friends of Mary saw it in print and wondered why she wasn't given credit for writing it. An attorney at that time told her that it would be very hard to prove her the author since it had been used by many publishers of religious materials and greeting cards. Mary wrote 'Footprints' in 1936 when she was very young and knew nothing of copyrighting. Discouraged she didn't pursue it any further.

In 1984 while cleaning out the garage to prepare to move from her house, in a small suitcase, among her other poems, she rediscovered a very old handwritten copy that she thought was lost. It was one of the copies Mary had made and dated 1939, just three years after she wrote the original. Later that year the U.S. copyright office awarded her a copyright for 'Footprints in the Sand' 48 years after it was written. It was another 11 years before her handwritten copy was authenticated by a forensic specialist as to its age. Margaret Fishback-Powers and many others have tried to falsely claim authorship, but none can show significant proof such as this.

Visit the Footprints Forum, a place where people exchange experiences, thoughts and ideas about how 'Footprints in the Sand' has affected their lives and what the poem means to them. Also, I would like to encourage visitors to submit letters of how the poem has impacted their lives that we will post, so they may offer inspiration to others. Suggestions to improve the site are welcomed.

The lyrics follow:

Lyrics: Leona Lewis - Footprints In The Sand lyrics

You walked with me
Footprints in the sand
And helped me understand
Where I'm going

You walked with me
When I was all alone
With so much I no along the way
Then I heard you say

I promise you
I'm always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
I'll carry you
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand

I see my life
Flash across the sky
So many times have I
Been so afraid ooh
And just when I
Have thought I've lost my way
[ Footprints In The Sand lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
You give me strength to carry on
That's when I heard you say

I promise you
I'm always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
I'll carry you
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand

When I'm weary
Well I no you'll be there
And I can feel you
When you say

I promise you
I'm always there
When your heart is full of sadness and despair
I'll carry you
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand x 2

Merc Perk Controversy: Don't limit scope of probe, says MB

KUALA TERENGGANU:
Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said wants the Anti-Corruption Agency to probe everything -- the Proton Perdana maintenance cost, the maintenance of cars used by ministers, the Monsoon Cup and the Islamic Civilisation Theme Park.

"For transparency, investigate right down to the very bottom. I would also like to see the bad guys nabbed. Don't pick on Ahmad Said only."

Speaking to reporters after the opening of the Serikandi (Association for the Wives of State Assemblymen) annual meeting, he said: "If there was any hanky-panky, we wouldn't know about it. We merely sign the bills when they arrive."

Ahmad also said he felt vindicated as other state governments, Pahang, Kelantan, Kedah and Selangor, had supported his claim that the Perdana maintenance was too high.

And from the Star Online, for once fling a report on the same subject, having some semblance of an attempt to live up to its Tagline for its print edition, as The People's Paper:

Saturday July 26, 2008
Terengganu MB: Probe Monsoon Cup, Islamic Park

KUALA TERENGGANU:
The authorities should investigate if there was graft in other high-profile projects in Terengganu and not just the issue of high cost of maintaining official cars, said Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said.

He said the Anti-Corruption Agency should not be selective and should also conduct investigations into projects like the prestigious Monsoon Cup sailing event and the Islamic Civilisation Park.

»The ACA should be transparent by also going after the ‘big’ cases« DATUK AHMAD SAID
In an immediate response, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said this was up to the ACA.

“If the ACA finds reasons to initiate investigations into them because there is suspicion of elements of corruption, it is up to the ACA to decide,” he told reporters after the National Academic Awards 2007 in Kuala Lumpur.

Ahmad Said, in a press conference here yesterday, said the two projects he named were “only the tip of the iceberg”.

“I am a controversial figure, I will expose more, but the ACA should be transparent by also going after the ‘big’ cases.

“Don’t only go after Mad (Ahmad Said). Investigate the Monsoon Cup and Islamic Civilisation Park, too,” he said.

When asked if he believed there were elements of corruption in the two projects, Ahmad replied: “That’s for the ACA to investigate.”

Ahmad said the ACA had been quick to investigate the high service costs for Proton Perdana cars when he proposed buying Mercedes Benz as state cars, and asked that it also cast its eyes on other cases, like the Monsoon Cup.

The Monsoon Cup, managed by a state-owned company, offers the highest prize money in the world for a sailing competition. The annual event was inaugurated in 2005, and this year’s edition is scheduled for November.

Since its debut the event has been criticised by its opponents as wasteful and not benefiting the people.

The Islamic Civilisation Park is part of a project under the East Coast Economic Region to boost Kuala Terengganu as a waterfront city.

The park is divided into two zones: the Islamic Civilisation Complex and the Public Zone.

Ahmad also called for a probe on the high service charges by Spanco, a service agent engaged to maintain Federal government vehicles.

RM4BILLION during the blardy mornoic predecessor MB's time? Elegant silence.

I think possibly names like the Son-in-law and one whom ex-PM Dr Mahathir kindly anointed as KJ's bestA buddy to be considered "Awe-in-theFamily" Patrick Lim Badawi were mentioned, inside and out of the palatial and political corrdiors of power. Sabah and Sarawak MPs to join up in two weeks, claims Anwar
Anwar makes a point at his ceramah last night.Visualise-lah, my ER
have rich imagination, yes!:):) ~~ YL aka Desi, knottyaSsusual

BANTING, July 26 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declared last night that he would announce in a week or two his plan to run for Parliament.

By that time, he said, he would also have some Barisan Nasional MPs from Sabah and Sarawak to join him — to make good his prediction to form the federal government by Malaysia Day.

"I want to see how much they (BN) are willing to spend (in the by-election). By that time (the by-election), our friends from Sabah, Sarawak and the Peninsular would be joining us," Anwar told a crowd of thousands at the Jugra stadium in Kuala Langat, about 100km from Kuala Lumpur, late last night.

He added that it was necessary for him and the federal opposition to take over the government because the country was facing an economic crisis caused by BN's mismanagement.
"I can tell you that things will get worse in two months," he told the cheering crowd.

For the first time also, Anwar admitted that the opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat had somewhat failed to convince the rural Malays to support the coalition.

"Based on our findings, the poor trusts Umno more," he said, urging his staunch supporters, mainly teachers and civil servants, to explain to the villagers Pakatan's struggle.

He reminded them to persuade the rural Malays the need to reject Umno's propaganda that the opposition coalition was trying to undermine Malay rights.

"Umno leaders are saying they are trying to protect the Malays because now they are at their weakest. But let me tell you this that it is too late for them. I am Malay but a responsible and cultured one. I will never stop from helping the Malays to progress," he added.

The former deputy prime minister, who was also the founder member of the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim), assured the crowd that Pakatan's aim to uphold justice was Islamic in nature.

A section of the crowd who came to hear Anwar speak last night.
"I am a Muslim therefore I am responsible to uphold justice for all Malaysians," he said to shouts of "reformasi".

Anwar also told the crowd that the latest sodomy allegation against him would not derail his plan to take over the government.

"They can put me in jail, stripped me but they cannot stop my programme to benefit the people. I do not wish to be the Prime Minister to enrich myself. I will be damned if I do that," he declared to the multiracial crowd that had waited for him since 9pm.

"I will fight, as I know there is no evidence, this is just a wild accusation, and I have enough witnesses. I have fought with dragons and these people are just lizards, and the people will reject this latest allegation," he said.

Despite the harsh words against his accusers, Anwar said he was in a forgiving mood. "I have forgiven (Tun Dr) Mahathir (Mohamad). He is senile. (Tan Sri) Mohtar Abdullah (the Attorney-General in 1998) is no longer with us and (Tan Sri) Rahim Noor (the former Inspector-General of Police) is retired. We want to move forward, let bygones be bygones."

Adding to his plea, Anwar also reminded the crowd to seek divine intervention. "Let us hold solat hajat (prayers seeking God's help) and readings of the Surah Yasin (a Quranic chapter asking for God's help), to ask God to save the country. We can only plan but God will decide," he said.

Anwar criticised the government for allegedly discriminating minority groups including the Chinese and Indians, saying that no country could progress by discriminating its citizens.

He also took the opportunity to deny that the opposition coalition was collapsing due to the Pas-Umno unity talks. "It is not a problem to meet anyone but it must be based on the principle of justice."

'Desiderata' vocalist Les Crane dies at 74

GREENBRAE, California (AP)
-- Les Crane, a talk radio innovator and Grammy winner remembered as the first television host to take on Johnny Carson, has died. He was 74.

Crane died Sunday of natural causes at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae just north of San Francisco, said his daughter, Caprice Crane.

Born in New York, Crane gained attention as a raconteur in the early 1960s while hosting a talk radio show out of a San Francisco nightclub frequented by hipster comedians like Mort Sahl and Lenny Bruce.

His rapid-fire, opinionated style and sometimes confrontational handling of callers -- unusual at the time -- drew the attention of his radio station's parent company, ABC, which tapped him as a late-night talk show host for its local television affiliate in New York.

In 1964, Crane landed the first U.S. television interview with the Rolling Stones, and months later the network slotted him against Carson, who had started hosting "The Tonight Show" on NBC two years earlier. "The Les Crane Show" lasted only a few months.

Crane's won a best spoken-word Grammy for his 1971 recording of "Desiderata," an inspirational prose poem embraced by the 1960s counterculture. Casey Kasem also credited Crane in a 1990 interview with helping to develop the Top 40 countdown of most popular songs.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

A two-day rally aside, the beating that financial stocks have taken lately has knocked out some top money managers and their brand-name mutual funds.

No champ has endured more pain than Bill Miller of Legg Mason Value Trust. Until 2006, Miller held the distinction of beating the S&P 500 for 15 consecutive calendar years, but lately the fund has struggled.

Last year, LMVT fell nearly 7%, while the S&P finished up more than 5%. Even after losing 20% in the first quarter, Miller wrote to shareholders that he thought the worst was over.

If only that were true: as of Wednesday's close, Miller's fund is down 41% year-over-year, according to Morningstar. The S&P 500 is down 18% over the same period.

Investment superstar Jim Rogers says U.S. interest rates will increase for years, thanks to the Federal Reserve's easy monetary policy.

In a wide-ranging and exclusive interview with Moneynews, Rogers says that the Fed may temporarily be able to hold the line on short-term rates but that, ultimately, the entire yield curve is headed higher.

On another subject, Rogers reiterates that the Treasury Department and Fed are foolish to prop up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

"They should have let them go bankrupt," he says.

"Anybody who can read a prospectus can see the companies were over-leveraged, over-extended, and in trouble. A lot of people shorted these things because they could see the problems."

But the government is stepping in. "So now you have 300 million Americans on the hook for $5 trillion of debt that some crooks and incompetents put together," Rogers says.

Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac FAILURE Creates Immediate Profit Center!

We've all known the dollar has been "under water" for years. But now, the Fannie/Freddie bailouts are going to flush it right down the drain.

Why? Because the bailouts mean that trillions more cheap dollars will flood the U.S. economy – only fueling the fire of a weak buck further... But fortunately, with turmoil comes opportunity...

From www.marhean.org:

a. Jawatan Menteri Besar kepada PAS di Selangor, Perak, Kedah dan Kelantan.
b. Jawatan exco kepada PAS di Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis dan Johor.

e. Beliau sekarang ini mengasak Presiden parti, Tuan Guru Haji Abdul Hadi bagi membolehkan Presiden parti menggerakkan PAS menyertai BN
f. Lihatlah betapa sukanya UMNO kepada Mustafa Ali sehingga UMNO sedia memberikan hak penerbitan Harakah dua kali seminggu hanya kerana Mustafa Ali dilihat sebagai “kawan” kepada UMNO

1. Dato Dr. Hasan Ali: Beliau sememangnya terlampau kepingin jawatan Menteri Besar Selangor.

Pas syura council nod for talks with Umno
By : Ridzwan Abdullah

Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang
said Pas was ready to ensure the success of the talks for the good of Muslims

KUALA LUMPUR:
The decision to continue talks on Islam and Malay unity with Umno was endorsed by the Pas' syura council and its central committee shortly after the first meeting between the two parties.

Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang revealed yesterday that the first meeting with Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had taken place just after the March general election.

Without saying where it was held, Hadi said those who represented Pas in the first meeting were deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa, electoral department director Datuk Mustapha Ali and Shah Alam MP Abd Khalid Samad.

"Pas is not denying that there was indeed a series of meetings between the party's top leadership and the prime minister.

"The talks were held to discuss common issues affecting Muslims and the Malays," he said in a statement published in the Pas website, Harakahdaily.

On Sunday, Abdullah disclosed that three meetings, centred on Islam and Malay unity, were held between him and top Pas leaders.

Kelantan Menteri Besar and Pas spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, however, did not take part in the talks.

Hadi said following the first meeting, the syura council, Pas's highest decision-making body, unanimously supported the initiation of further talks.

"The council gave its blessings for the president, deputy president and the secretary-general to work seriously on uniting Muslims and Malaysians on the basis of Islam."

The second meeting, Hadi revealed further, took place in Parliament, this time only involving Abdullah and Nasharudin.

"A report on the outcome was later submitted to me and the syura council, adding that Pas, on its part, was ready to ensure the success of the talks for the good of Muslims and Malays in the country."

Pas dewan ulama head Datuk Mohamed Daud called for talks between both parties to be held at all levels and not just among the top leadership.

He was quoted by Harakahdaily as saying that any outcome or resolution from the meetings must be presented for discussion at the Pas general assembly in Ipoh next month.

"The dewan ulama is agreeable with the meetings. Such meetings can be extended to other parties as well if they can foster unity based on Islam."

Universiti Kebangsaan Ma-laysia political scientist Prof Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff said talks between both parties for the greater good of the Malays and Islam were long overdue.

He said they showed that leaders from both parties were "big hearted" enough to set aside their differences for the common good.

"If the leaders keep telling the masses to unite, then the leaders themselves must prove that are capable of doing so."

Mohammad Agus said both parties should expect resistance from within, as well as sceptics, but these were normal in politics.

"They should not allow the grouses to derail the talks.

"The talks are very important for unity and should continue."

Nik Aziz upset over meetings with Umno leaders

KOTA BARU: Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has called for an end to talks between Pas and Umno leaders.

He said he was upset at finding out about the secret meetings between a few top party leaders and Umno.

Although Nik Aziz's objection to any dealings with Umno is well-known, he appeared on Sunday to permit discussions between leaders of the two parties on an individual basis.

Yesterday, he returned to his default position.

"I am against the plan to hold a muzakarah with Umno. When this happens, both our members and our partners in the opposition alliance will be angry with us.

"This is not our way. I've said it before that talking to Umno will lead us into a trap.

"It happened to us back in the 1970s and I don't want it to happen again.

"Umno is now weak and they want to make use of us so why do we help them?

"Instead, we should attack them," he said at a press conference at Kota Darulnail.

Nik Aziz again denied any knowledge of the meetings and said he had not spoken to party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang on the matter.

He, however, denied any disagreements between him and Hadi.

"I have read the newspapers and I felt I had to speak out. The meetings were with others in the party. What happens next is up to the party.

"Others are free to talk and express their views and listen to the feedback.

"They have spoken and I am now responding. We'll leave it to our members to decide.

"If Hadi wants to continue, I hope he will stop as there are many things to do for the party annual general meeting next month."

Nik Aziz, the Kelantan Menteri Besar, said he would host a special meeting with the Pakatan Rakyat leaders of Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Penang next month.

"We are a family and we need to talk and discuss ways to strengthen our alliance," he said.
