“I survived on a prayer and ration” of biscuits of water – these were the manna of heaven for RAZALI HASSAN that helped him survive the hilly jungles of Ulu Baleh after a Hornbill Skyways helicopter crash which killed three of his friends. The 48-yrearold was airlifted to the Sibu Hospital from Long Singut at about 2pm yesterday in a timber company helicopter three days after rescuers found him, according to The Star report of August 1, 2005 page 6.

Looks and books go a long way for TAN WENG KIM, who was crowned Miss Chinese International in 2003, and has gone on to avow: “I don’t want to die and be known as the beauty queen who did nothing”. According to another The Star story, it has been a fairytale come true for Tan, a University of Sheffield law graduate, who has appeared in TV programmes such as Girl’s Club, and Sketches, and has been ambassador for Rado watches – and now proceeding to do her Masters in Law at the University of Cambridge.

A cell phone saved the lives of seven trekkers who lost their way while returning from a jungle trek at a hill in Cherok Tekun, The Malay Mail of August 1, 2005 page 12 reported. Thanks to the cellphone, Mohd Zaim Omar was able to call the Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue Department who responded to the Seven’s S-O-S.

Eight-year-old THIO YEE SHEN was to have a birthday party last night, but, instead, she lay dead at a funeral parlour in Ja;an Gasing, Petaling Jaya. On Saturday evening, Yee Shen, drowned in a swimming pool at the Kelana Mahkota condominium when her leg was trapped in a filtration vent at the bottom of the pool.

Whirlpool 2:(

The father of a standard One pupil of SK Sungai Limau Dalam in Yan, Mohamad Hajar, claimed that an English teacher had beaten his son, AIMAN KAMILA, 10 times with a two-foot-long stick for making noise. It caused a fracture in the right palm of the boy – who is class assistant monitor – who also suffered a sprain in one finger, theSun reported.
