KUALA LUMPUR: A routine drug bust led to the discovery of a major underworld syndicate which provided special karaoke rooms for VIPs, complete with drugs, booze and girls.
Police raided a house in Bukit Idaman, Gombak a stone's throw away from the Gombak police headquarters at around 1am on Saturday and found the renovated house furnished to cater to the taste of its important clientele.
“There were soundproof rooms with state-of-the-art karaoke equipment.
Seized items: ACP Abdul Rahim showing some of the drugs seized during the raid at a press conference at the Gombak police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur Sunday.
“Everything was decorated better than a five-star hotel,” a source said, adding that from the outside, the house looked just like any other in the area.
Police believe that some VIPs came to the house as often as once a week. Party drugs, like Eramin 5, ketamine and Ecstasy, were found in the house.
Eight people including two women, one of them a Chinese national, were detained. They were aged between 16 and 56.
Police also found more drugs in a luxury car outside the house.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said based on information after the arrests, police went to a condominium nearby where they found another luxury car containing drugs.
“The total value of the drugs seized is over RM570,000,” he said during a press conference at the Gombak police headquarters yesterday.
Police also seized RM48,000 and US$1,000 (RM3,158) cash in the raid.
Those detained have been remanded until June 24 and will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1957.

DESIDERATA: I have read of many incidents, also blogposted here, of police raids where the targeted venues are/were partronised by VIPs and their children -- BUT I HARDLY SAW/SEE anyone of the VIPs being prosecutred. Double standards in applying the law, Mr AG's Chamber?
THat's why in Malaysia, it's Malaysia Boleh in the negative sense -- especially BN leaders and famiulies are treated with a silver glove while Opposition people and common folks are taken to courts in DOUBLE QUICK TIME.
