The Sinner, Not The Song

After the expected criticsms being rained on the KBMC's enforcement of "DECENT DRESSING" highlighted in all media yesterday, it's also not surprising that Kelantan MB Nik Abdul Aziz came out to defend the Islamic party's stand. The party's raison d'etre is under siege, but I think it's bet to leave the Islamic heartland to the Moon. I can live with Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis and Kedah as experimentation beds -- between PAS walking God-fearing ways and UMNO strutting Oil-money ways, Desi'd opt for the former. Lesser of two evils. In England, they call it Hobson's Choice, but I must not flaunt my English credentials lest I be bombarded with indecent adulations like Colonialist WOG, or Western stooge, or worst of all, a Traitor to NegaraKu.

From The Star, page N3, the highlights (THUS BOLDED or italicised are mine, Desi):

MB defends dress code

KOTA BARU: Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has defended the move to slap a RM500 fine on indecently dressed women workers in restaurants and retail outlets, saying it will help protect their virtue.

Women working in such businesses, he added, should respect the customs, culture and religious values of Kelantan when in public.

“A woman who wears an indecent outfit does not respect herself, so how can she expect men to respect her?” he said.

He said a woman's morality was something precious and should be guarded.

"Why do people keep their money in wallets or purses instead of walking about with it openly?” he retorted yesterday.

“This is because cash is something precious, just like a woman’s virtue.

The Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) has announced that it will “no longer tolerate indecent dressing” by women, both Muslim and non-Muslim, noting that under local council by-laws, women who “dressed sexily or indecently” could be fined up to RM500.

It has also been reported that the MPKB can also fine the employers of “indecently dressed women.”

Nik Aziz said the council and the religious authorities had tried for years to generate awareness on proper attire in public but some women here had continued to be stubborn.

According to Nik Aziz, there was no denying that men would be aroused by a scantily- dressed woman, as this was human nature.

“It is an Islamic ruling, so nobody should undermine or question it,” said the PAS spiritual adviser, after closing a spiritual enrichment programme for women NGO Purnama here.

The programme was organised by the Tok Kenali Foundation, managed by former Lunas assemblyman Saifuddin Nasution. Also present was Nik Aziz’s wife, Datin Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak.

Under the council's dress code for women employed in retail outlets and restaurants, Muslims should wear outfits which reach down to their ankles as well as a tudung (headscarf), while non-Muslims should not wear outfits which expose their navels, show a lot of cleavage and emphasise the buttocks.

DESIDERATA:

Dear ER, I suggest you invest RM1.20 for a print copy to read Related Stories, but this is NOT THE FIRST TIME we hear of PAS leader Nik Aziz's Solomonesque wisdom. I in fact appreciate his motivation and I don't soubt his sincerity when he said:" (the proper attire)...it will help protect their virtue. ";
also: “This is because cash is something precious, just like a woman’s virtue. "

The lust time he stirred controversy was in proclamation it State policy to discrimnate against "beautiful" women in favour of "less pretty ones" in recruiting employees into State government service. The RATionale -- to you may be ridiculous, to Desi a mousey-wan, to Nik it's of Solomonesque way, so who's more noble? -- is that "beautiful women" can find husbands more easily and the men folk as folksy as can be will take care of the happily-married-after femili.

By the generosity of the hoRst @juslo.blogspot.com here's more PAS-style songs they are singing/singEing, and the translation from the Original in Bahasa Malaysia from the PAS webpages is entirely the work of Juslo delivered via lust night's Comments. So any donation of gratitude from my ER would go to promoting juslo's Jest-Lo&Behold weblog, minus Desi's 30%! ENJOY THE FARE/FAIR for this write/ride is getting interest-arresting.!

"desiderata,

i kid u not, mate...

check out the web address i gave u -- but only if u r not a PAS ulama, because u might get turned on by the photo there, which is a VERY SEXY, HOT photo of 2 SHAMELESS iraqi athletes who exposed their flesh n sold out their religion in the name of sports... (SLUTS!!!!!)

here's my not-so-good translation of the harakah report, for the benefit of all your english-reading readers:

"Doing Sports is No Reason for Exposing Aurat (Body/FLESH/MEAT)?!?!"

the muslim ummah r urged to preserve the image of n not sell out the dignitiy of religion n self when being involved in the sporting world especially in the aspect of athletes' dress.

according to the head of PAS women (wanita?), ustazah sports-is-too-sexy-for-me-who's-too-holy, the time has come for sports organisers n participants at international n domestic levels to introduce n lay down sports wear conditions which cover up the FLESH/MEAT especially for muslim women.

according to her holiness, sports wear which covers the FLESH/MEAT should be implemented immediately in line with the spirit of independence of the muslim ummah from western control of thought, influence n lifestyle.

her holiness said, it's not wrong for muslim women to participate in sports whether at the state, national n subsequently on the international level but she should wear dress which covers the FLESH/MEAT.

"the time has come for sports organisers should introduce sports wear which cover up the FLESH/MEAT for women so that the men who become manager (of sports team?) or spectators do not become 'ghairah' (amazed? horny?? turned on?? not sure about the exact meaning, but u can pretty much guess it from the context) when watching sporting events participated by women," she said when commenting on the dress of Iraqi muslim women in sports at Doha now.

her holiness hopes that muslim women should be the role model for other races whether from the angle of dress or 'penampilan' (action?? not sure) especially when participating in sports.

"don't sell out the honour of religion n self just because we r chasing gold n (sporting honour)," she said.

while we r at it, here r some other 'related' news from harakah, the voice of PAS. (i'm only translating parts of them, u should check out the original texts for full details...)

Spirit of Independence: Muslim Women Misses/Long For Closed Sports Complex

...the closed sports complex should be built to ensure the safety n comfort of muslim women who r doing sports without any disturbance from men who r not related (to the women).

...the malaysian government should follow the example of IRAN which has successfully organised closed women sports without a single male spectator n malaysia has also sent her athletes.

...she suggested to Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Dato' Azalina Othman to immediately build closed sports complex for women instead of building sports complex in england.

"we muslim women who r wearing tudung very much want to learn swimming because the sports of swimming n riding horses r encouraged by islam, n swimming has a lot of health benefits," she said.

according to her, muslim women who wear tudung very much miss/long for a sports complex which could protect their aurat n honour from them becoming the viewing objects of unrelated male.

Kelantan is the first state to introduce sports wear of the Islamic way

Kelantan is expected to become the first state in the country to introduce dress which fulfils the requirements of religion for football players.

...(some government big shot said) "the state government wishes to become an example n model for other states n to prove that dress which closes aurat is not a bar to athletes to progress in sports."

..."this also is to prove that kelantan is very committed to ensure that the policy of 'Develop together with Islam' continues to be realised in the administration of the government including related to sports," he said at the launching ceremony of Dato’ Menteri Besar Cup Championship, here recently.

DESIDERATA:

My only commentor2 now is the reiteration that PAS should be left by the Opposition Coalition to make its way in the Muslim heartland of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis -- and the dictum that "The Rakyat gets the Government they deserve (by free election)" holds.
I'd leave the Hurculean task of "fitting in" PAS to PKR in the Opposition Coalition comprising mainly DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and other minor opposition parties to face the Barisan Nasional in the next Generakl Elections. Saudara Anwar Ibrahim ex-DPM in deed has a gardantuan task in his hands, but in his experienced hands lies about te only viable option Malaysians have. If you think otherwise, tell Desi!

Mmmm... gov they vote for is more like it...

Yes, there r pp here who don't like m-politics, coupled by the fact they are simple pp who don't really dissect politics as much (not that they don't).

Yes, dress code thing was also around for that period now passed (pun intended)... but it wasn't just that I am not happy with, swimming pool cloed down though it's segregated by sex (since then the pool has borke down and I have got to swim since :( ...and they were very ineffiencent and didn't know how to manage things... wanted to levy extra tax on non-b als0, but got stopped by fed go men.

Which do we prefer? well... with the currrent mb, things are moving, public works are done, streets are litted, some orang barat come to the east (two types of organg barat, one local to do business). So, definitely we prefer him... not not his party and their ways at some far flung castles and mansions ala putra ala jaya.

One of the reasons the bn went out earlier was b coz the former mb was really lazy, didn't do nothing and pp not happy... plus no grassroot work like house visiting into the deep ends from the coast...

Wah... another long comment... not my usual quiet visits, well, maybe it's b coz it pertains to me zone. haha... better go, lots of personal stuff to do.

The important issue I'm not happy about in this ruling is not women cannot wear sexy clothes, but the one sided so-called 'act of justice' by making women pay the RM500 penalty. It will be just if the man could be make accountable as well by imposing a RM500 penalty should they ogle or make suggestive comments.

By imposing this ruling, PAS just proved they are just as unjust as those clowns running the garmen.

hello there,

1, thanks for the free 'promo', the pleasure (of translation) is entirely mine. will rebate your '30%' when i become a rich & famous blogger, ya?! ;P

2, "This is because cash is something precious, just like a woman’s virtue."

there we have it - in Kota Baru, a woman's virtue is worth only RM500 per kg. (or is it measured by body parts, like RM400 if u expose your butt, but RM500 if u expose your breasts, or does it depend on the SIZE n SEXINESS of your body parts, the sexier & more lust-arousing the higher the fine??)

does PAS realise that they have just successfully CHEAPENED women???

3, According to Nik Aziz, there was no denying that men would be aroused by a scantily- dressed woman, as this was human nature.

another quote of wisdom from the tok guru.

is it human nature to regard women as FLESH/MEAT - or is it ANIMAL NATURE?!?!

do PAS people realise what kind of damage they r doing to Islam's good name?!?!

hang on, there's another one:
"This is because cash is something precious, just like a woman’s virtue."

if women didn't feel CHEAP enough by the RM500 price tag, this ought to do it now.

4, "I can live with Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis and Kedah as experimentation beds -- between PAS walking God-fearing ways and UMNO strutting Oil-money ways, Desi'd opt for the former. Lesser of two evils."

well, i happen to think that PAS is a greater evil. when everything is done in the name of 'Islam', any criticism of the PAS government would be regarded as 'anti-Islam', kind of like 'anti-malay rights' under umno, evertime we criticise umno.

that kind of theocratic politics will only WORSEN the racial/religious polarisation in malaysia.

if those 'moon states' r painted green, i'm afraid it would b the first step to the breaking up of malaysia. that's no good, is it??

i would argue that PAS should only take care of kelantan, n leave the rest to keadilan & dap. the kelantanese r too proud n chauvinistic (even vis-a-vis fellow malays) anyway, i'm sure they have wanted to break off from malaysia for a long time now. i wont cry if they do.

apologies - to be fair, i've repeated this quote twice:

"This is because cash is something precious, just like a woman’s virtue."

but still, i think PAS has made women CHEAP.

to dreamer idiot,
i can understand the (slightly?) pro-PAS sentiment, but what u said is precisely DESI's 'lesser of 2 evils' mentality.

i only pray n wish that kelantanese have better option to choose from, not just from an all-devils ticket. should try to trust keadilan or dap...
