Rats and RAT-tionalising

I like to tease my ER and conversationists that you should not jest give me one-liners -- OKay, those goblets of tehtarik dan caferoseriecino laced with praises taste sweeter than wine! -- but you ewxpand witha RAT-ionale, mousey one oso cun.

Actually what I try to promote here under the banner of democratic discourse is critical and ratiobal debate and exchange of views -- the clash of ideas will yield some insights which lend to our education and undersatnding, not necessary acceptance.
Good debaters don't win by flaming or labelling the opponents -- you counter with good arguments and let the audience decide which team's (or speaker's) views convince and thus win them over.

And you score some points some times with theatrics -- like Helen doing a tap dance, or standing on hwe head, to show one's gymnastic skills to drive home the point that being a girl/lady does not necesarily mean you lose out in certain "skills". Or Desi doing 100 metres in 9.9 (did I say seconds or wait a minute?) to show he can think as well as run on his feet!

But some parties think such theatrics can fool all the people all the tie. Of course, they fool some of their bed fellows out to have a bite of the loot while they swallow croc mouthfools.

Hisham: Fear not the kerisThursday December 7, 2006.

Air cleared over keris act

PUTRAJAYA: After a two-hour meeting with the Umno Youth chief, MCA Youth came out from the meeting with a better understanding why Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein brandished the keris at the Umno Youth meeting recently. MCA Youth chief Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the wing understood that the act was a symbol to show it was a trust for Hishammuddin to carry out his responsibilities to the nation.

“We raised our concern with Hishammuddin and after his explanation, the MCA now has full confidence that he will not used (sic) the keris against the Chinese or other races.

Desi: Visualise the pic-lah! OFF TO A GOOD START: Liow shaking hands with Hishammuddin before their meeting at the Ministry of Education premises in Putrajaya, which set the cordial mood of the discussion. With them are other MCA Youth officials.

“I think the grassroots will understand,” he said after leading his exco members to meet Hishammuddin at the Education Ministry here yesterday.

Liow was responding to a question whether it would be easy for the MCA to allay the Chinese community uneasiness over Hishammuddin’s act.

Hishammuddin, who was also present at the press conference, said it was the responsibility of all Youth leaders to reassure the Chinese community that they should not be uneasy.

“We discussed the keris. If you want to look at it negatively, of course you will say it is something to hurt. If you look at positively, you will see the responsibility of the person kissing the keris to carry out his duties,” he explained.

“If he does not comply with it, the keris is used against him. In the process of getting it through to the people, of course we have to face the sceptics out there. I hope the people will not see the keris as offensive or something to be feared.”

Hishammuddin said a lesson to be learnt from the Umno assembly was that other races could see that the status of the Malays and religion were still sensitive matters.

“The meeting today was frank, and the explanations by both sides accepted. Our task now is to build a stronger bond and move forward,” he added.

“My good relationship with MCA Youth is not built overnight. It took a lot of effort and I would like to translate it to Barisan Nasional Youth.”

Liow said the MCA Youth was happy with the discussion and that other issues, including education, were also raised.

DESIDERATA1:
MCA Youth chief Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the wing understood that the act was a symbol to show it was a trust for Hishammuddin to carry out his responsibilities to the nation.
Desi: WoW! Datuk Liow, since when have you graduated from tertiary to kindergarten class?

“I think the grassroots will understand.”
Desi: Hey, MCA head, YOUR grassroots understand becayse they feed on hay.
Normal thinking Malaysian grassroots eat normal rice, rotic canai and curry ikan; maybe poorer ones like Desi take pooridge. We don't undersatnd!

DESIDERATA is again very democratic this moUrn.
To describe Hishamuddin (Education MInister some more!) explanation which the MCA dmules donkeyly accept, Desi's choice is these politicians are RAT-ionalising, with the meaning in Option number, the principal ones reproduced here (Dear ER, read also the seconddary meanings above...)

**2. rationalise - defend, explain, clear away, or make excuses for by reasoning; "rationalize the child's seemingly crazy behavior"; "he rationalized his lack of success"

apologise, rationalize, apologize, justify, excuse

RAT-tionalising is the art of deceit of the politikus in NegaraKu. I mourn.
Don't join Desi if thou art not of my vein.
Join MCA and UMNO in vain then, damned ride the gravy train -- into the sunset and over the Abyss and unto Eternity.

This latest UMNO Youth-MCA Youth sandiwara-cum-opera transferred from The PWTC STage to Putrajaya is a reprise the Mat Rempit case a few months ago that UMNO Putera try to sell us as good medicinein the guise of turning them into MAT CEMERLANG.
I had cited from Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet that
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet ..."

but that would elevate the Mat Rempit to fragrant status, wouldn't it?
So it's better to call a spade a spade.
or Devils in Disguise?
or Wolves dressed to kill in Gucci, Dunhill, or Prada attire?

Mournfully, Desi is giving my ER a heavy doze of medicine today as he will take "sick leave" for the next three weeks to ride into some sunset, mayhaps, God-willing, also gallop out again at sunrise to surprise you with some wickedend Ruminations.
Meanwhile, you behave yourself OK? Don't brandish a parang or kung fu sword at any Tom, Dick and Harry as some unexpected/normal reactions may result in a Dick going off tangent.

Desi,

With the rationalisation of this kris brandishing incident, I cannot help recalling the then President of Indonesia calling for the return of Chinese Indonesians, some years back, to help invest in that country, after that unforgettable period of systematic slashing, murdering, raping, burning, and dragging of headless corpse along the streets with motor-bikes.

When top leaders do nothing to assuage the fear and uncertainty of their nationals, especially the ethnic or religious minorities, or if their actions are not convincing or sincere, there will be repercussions; foreign investors watching the situation will also shy away, after all, they can find many other safer/better places to invest, like China, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Middle-East, Africa, South America, etc. More so, when investing here could be construed as "attempts by imperialist/zionist/CIA/Mossad agents to control this wealthy nation” LOL! (One can read such local comments in many blogs)

Should any investing country go through such labels to bring long-term good to this nation or let it fall further behind other newer but fast developing countries in this region in this era of globalisation?

The answer really depends on the attitudes of the leaders and the majority community.

You spell out the situation facing the tribe in NegaraKu frankly in all its naked glory.

But these socalled Wakil Rakyat only rep them for three weeks campaigning during the GE evry four-five years.

Other times, they watch the world go by as they dance and wayang at the PWTC STage or Lee San Choon GREAT HALL. Their underlings wait for the kacang putih&hitam to be thrown at them from centre stage.

Desi records the goings-on for Hollywood The Best Videos from Bolehland, takboleh pun oso cun!:(

Thanks for recalling Indonesian castaways narrative -- many Malaysians will remember. Others, they have sou'd OUT! (after putting their ministerial-blooded children to sleep as PR oversee..."See" pronounced in Kantonis.

Why bother to rehearse when it is exactly the same script, same sandiwara and same actors, just like the previous SIL case. Another huge disappointment.

However, viewing it in another perspective, at least this will ease the racial tension from reaching the boiling point, which is equally bad for the country.

I just hope that UMNO will be smarter next time when dealing with these issues. Someone please remove those bird brains from the stage.
