they shoot the messenger, BUTT...

As usual, the nation's CEO is also acting as BOMBA chief, dousing the fire one of his misbehaving underlings maketh. Luckily for Malaysia, this fireman has multi-talents and trained as the modern Malaysian, able to multi-task. Needs to earn money from doing more than one job, like most avarge Joe-Malaysian. Unlike most cabinet makers ...ooops, members.

To wit1: FrontPage, the Star, Dec 1, 2005:

PM ticks off Noh

Pak Lah: His statement totally against Govt's policy on visitors

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has reprimanded Datuk Noh Omar for his remarks that foreigners and visitors should go home if they thought the Malaysian police were cruel. Abdullah, who is also the Internal Security Minister, said the remarks by his deputy minister were “highly inappropriate”.

BUTT1: the recalcitrant one Noh Omar denied at a press conference making the statement, but at the same time offered an apology.

DESIDERATA: Lazy I.Cs, go read the full story yiourself, spend-lah RM1.20! Your ringgit has risen, by 70 PER CENT! (See the myth, COMING SOONER than you think (on Desi's site-lah, no need pay-one-2!)

As usual, it's so convenient to say for Noh to say: "...it might have been misinterpretated...".

I don't know who's the goat here: the scaper of the messenger (media) who becomes a scape-goat. Yes, they steal shoot the messenger2!

BUTT2:

Here's one "mess-enger" who ought to be shot, along with a certain Minister/ministry official!

As Desi picked up the "subscription" copy of theSun, the page 1 headline greets him with a greAt "once-upon-a-time" MAS-Gal smile:
To wit2:

Value of ringgit increases by up to 70%

by Ho Han Chin

KUALA LUMPUR: Financial experts predict that consumer buyinmg power will increase by up to 70% all over Malaysia between 1st December 2005 and 31st January 2006.
This is attributed to discounts of up to 70% and the special offers available during Malaysia's two-month-long Year End Sale.
Economists, financial specialists, investment analysts, bankers, as well as huige numbers of very sensible Malaysians are expected to flood thhe malls and shops. This positive trend is predicted to last for two months.
The Minister of Tourism, Datuk Dr. Leo Michael Toyad launched the nationwide Year End Sale, Malaysia's first ever, in a truly special ceremony.

DESIDERATA won't bore/burden my EsteemedReaders for this myth flagging off as NEWS bylined obviously by a PSEUDO REPORTER by the BIG nama of Ho HC and capitalising on da minister's BIG name ....) The readers are asked to go to PAGE 2,
which features ad advertisement carrying TOURISM MALAYSIA famous bunga raya logo as leader sponsor among the FAMOUS5.

HOW IRRESPONSIBLE CAN A NEWSPAPER GET TO FLAG OFF WHAT, to a trained journalist like Desi, COULD BE AN ADVERTORIAL BUT APPEARING AS SENSATIONAL NEWS BREAK?

To lay readers, especially overseas tourists, the readers could be unwitttingly misled into thinking they have walked into a MIRACLE ECONOMYthat's BolehLand, when the reality is that for the past one year, almost all the esential goods and services have gone up in prices!

So can you blame Noh Omar "completely" when under fire, he shoots at the "messenger"?
Some edirors clearly messed up!
Some Ministry official/s also messed up!

I hope my ER are not "messed up"!

PS: Shall we stand in silence for 60seconds while I await some phone calls from the newspaper and ministry saying "Desi, you're misinterpreting us!"
Hey, April 1, 2006 is steal a long way to go by news standards. Today's news is tomorrow's history ... actually Desi should not be SO GENEROUS give away 70%-discounted -- or isit 100%?- lessons on Journalism101!

I'm glad to see the 'strong' side of Pak Lah in taking the necessary steps in coutering the alleged exceedingly arrogant and callous remark by a so-called minister (quite a number of them, and really wonder how such people become ministers in the first place).

I'm ok with the ad thing though, despite its purported masquerade as an advertotial...I only wished it were a real editorail which comes true, if only...sad reality that our economy is not as well as it could.

hi dreamer I.

Yes, it's good to see Pak Lak taking some action -- bt after two years, thhe people expect stronger and frimer leadership from the PM!

Time is not a luxury we can afford, esp in the globalised environs of education and economics and business.

I'd pay he has the guts and gumption to do the necessary -- CUT OFF THE DEADWOOD and DELINQUENT ONES in da cabinet WITH ONE FELL SWOOP!

On the press thingy, sometimes advertisement copy-wriers go overboard -- this one about the country's purchasing power and use of the Minister's name is definitely way over ...da minister's head!
