Monday Thoughts...Not So Blue-sy

"Yesterday"
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh I belive in
Yesterday

Sunday was rejuvented by some walks back to nature, and contemplation.
I caught up with a nigh-soulmate Down Under who lends half-the-name
to that Inspired I-LAND In The Sun ...
spirite
D
estination.

And when tired souls require rejuvention, there's a
recipe which often works with a Writer,
and Desi goes back to Walden's Countree,
courtsey of David Henry THOREAU...
Hence I borrow off ssssspirit this NutGift:

Solitude

I save my thoughts for lonely moments when
The pain that overwhelms the world with news
Often destroys ideals and dreams conceived
By precious minds, exposed to all the waste
Of shady worlds that fill them full of hate
And sin; it never seems to give relief.
And so my thoughts are saved for lonely hours,
When I have time to be in tune with songs
Of sunset's vibrant hues and tones, as well
As soft and gentle breezes cool and calm.

This is Easter Monday, and Waking Up to Reality can be Cruel.
Maybe cruel is not the right word.
Harsh Reality, even Depressing,
far from the ideal state we wish for:
Peace.
Security.
Well-being.

(Desiderata is not listing HAPINESS among the list above -- this is the Common Citizens' priorites. Happiness comes at leisure as a bonus with greta effort and determination. I'd leave such contemplation for the wickedend. Easter Sunday has just come to pass...)

However, I think our country's CEO is trying his best.
It's his iKabinet members and his sub-ordinates that
Citizen Joe/Jane have to contend with. Most times.

Desi tries to look at the POSITIVES this morning,
though the skies be cloudy at Subang Jaya today. Blues-leaning.
But my spirit is prepared to take the wings of an EAGLE.

So putting aside a while, the negative news such as NUDE-SQUAT and IGP-vs-JoePublic on the setting up of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission, DESIDERATA-- Desi serves up a sort of Potpourri to set the record straight on some matters of national importance. YOUR SECURITY. MY SECURITY. OUR SECURITY.

-PM: Be fair to the police

KUALA LUMPUR: Don’t bash the police just because of a few bad apples. That is not fair to the force, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The Prime Minister said the police force was not an institution that should be mistrusted by any party.

“Although there are a few bad apples who have been guilty of certain offences or misconduct, the force is conscious of such people. The force is making efforts to clean up. Don’t ever bash up the force because of this small group,” he said when launching the national-level Rakan COP at Dataran Merdeka here yesterday.

Later at a press conference, he said the police’s image was not tarnished because of the conduct of every personnel but the bad action of a few.

Abdullah said the police leadership had been taken to task to rid the force of its few bad apples so that people would respect the force.

10-minute response time target

KUALA LUMPUR:
Police want to cut the 12-minute response time to reach a crime scene to 10 minutes.

This is achievable under Rakan COP, a programme in which the people act as lookouts and provide information on crime to the police’s Command Control Centre through its hotline or SMS.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Omar said that although the 12-minute response time had produced encouraging results in most cases, the target was to reduce it to 10 minutes.

He urged the public, including Rakan COP members, to use SMS, MMS and e-mail to contact police.

This has proven to be a speedy and accurate way for police to act fast on complaints and solve cases, he added.

“Since the setting up of Rakan COP, 25 associations and non-governmental organisations have become affiliated members while 29,829 individuals have become members,” he said at the launch of the national-level Rakan COP programme at Dataran Merdeka yesterday. (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi launched the programme.)

:
:

Mohd Bakri said police had made good use of communication technology.

“The SMS and MMS culture which is pervasive in our society has been put to good use by the setting up of Rakan COP,” he said.

Mohd Bakri said that with Rakan COP, which was first introduced in Kuala Lumpur two years ago, city police reduced the crime rate and solved a higher number of cases.

He said the crime rate index fell by 21% while traumatic cases such as rape, house-breakings and burglary, attempted murder, snatch thefts and others dropped by 72% compared to previous years.

DESIDERATA
applauds the achievement of the RMPF under the current IGP under the current premiership of Pak Lah. There is an expressed determination to trul;y tackle the Security Situation -- especially the criminal aspects -- from the top parties concerned. They could have inherited a "bad" security situation, as evidenced by some not-so-quiet observations by top leaders from the island Republic my blogger friends like to nick Sin-Land (what more in a few years time/dime when two caSINo resorts arise to give Genting Highlands a run for OUR money!
Back from Blogger's luxury of digression, Desi recounts briefly my own experience one night (With mGf a Dr Louis...) when we called "999" to report about a sighted incident of a man bashing up a woman companion in a car right in front of a restaurant -- in a dark corner no doubt -- where we were having a meal. To our surprise as were both cynical that we would see a response, a police patrol car was at the scene within 10 minutes. "SYABAS" to the IGP's men in blue -- yes, let's give credit where credit is due.

DESI, and I'm sure all my Esteemed Readers here, hope and pray that very soon the
POLICE ACHIEVE THEIR NOBLE TARGET OF 10-MINUTE RESPONSE TIME TARGET.
And yes, let's also support Pak Lah's call to the IGP: Sack the bad cops!

~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, it's not too heartening to raed about the "hesitation" on the Prime Minister's part to go ahead implementing the proposal to set up the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission. Pak Lah said he would "decide on it very soon".
On the proposed Ombudsman to address and investigate complaints against enforcement agencies, ministers and other parties, he said: "I will make a statement soon." This is according to the closing of the Star report headed:
PM: Be fair to the police.
Perhaps, the Prime Minister needs the Citizenry to vocalise their support for such reforms.
For your own good, for my good, for OUR GOOD, please visit the following website of the:
Movement Towards A Better Police Force @petitiononline.com --initiated by the MALAYSIAN BAR COUNCVIL --
to Sign the Petition which reads:
"To: The Malaysian Government
I/We the undersigned:
1. Commend and support the Prime Minister for having, in the past two years, set up two Commissions of Inquiry to look into matters concerning the Police; illustrating the Government’s concern for a better society, greater openness to views and criticisms, and the willingness to have a more open and honest appraisal of our institutions.
2. Urge that the above trend be continued, and the pace of reform be hastened.
3. Commend the chairman and the commissioners of these 2 Commissions for the sound and useful recommendations that they have put forward.
4. Believe that the recommendations of the Police Commission are comprehensive and balanced; as they do not merely focus on the conduct of the police, but also address problems faced by the police force, their terms of service, as well as issues such as human rights, crime, and corruption.
5. Believe that full regard must be had to the recommendations of the 2 Commissions, set up in the public interest and using public funds, which recommendations have been made after extensive fact-finding and research, and which recommendations will ensure best practices by the police force.
6. Believe that it is imperative that our nation immediately implements all the major recommendations of the 2 Commissions, including, in particular, the setting up of an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).
Sincerely,
The Undersigned"
PS: DESIDERATA has signed on as a ConcernedCitizen. Now the challenge is up to you. I believe the deadline is up pretty soon. DETOUR NOW to that petition online, please. One tehtarik, tambah manis? Tambah Ha!lia...
I believe in you
Somewhere there's a river
Looking for a stream
Somewhere there's a dreamer
Looking for a dream
Somewhere there's a drifter
Trying to find his way
Somewhere someone's waiting
To hear somebody say
Chorus
I believe in you
I can't even count the ways that
I believe in you
And all i want to do is help you to
Believe in you
Somewhere there's an angel
Trying to earn his wings
Somewhere there's a silent voice
Learning how to sing
Some of us can't move ahead
We're paralyzed with fear
And everybody's listening
'cause we all need to hear
Chorus
I will hold you up
I will help you stand
I will comfort you when you need a friend
I will be the voice that's calling out
I believe in you
I can't even count the ways that
I believe in you
And all i want to do is show you
I believe in you
And there are just so many ways that
I believe in you
Baby, what else can i do but believe in you - believe in you
All i want to know is you believe - believe in you
Dear Desi,
Yesterday, my troubles seem so far away too. I wish I was 21 again. No worries in life, parents still prividing for me and I can still wake up late in the evenings and sleep early in the morning. Sigh. Life goes on. Don't be dishearten!
The Police force was created by an act of Parliament and they are supposed to be accountable to the public. Public Administration 101.
Sigh. They need to regain the public's confidence and trust. Now only realised? Not too late ler. Bad apples are everywhere even in my workplace. I have this wayward colleague who is very naughty and a few more, not to mention.
I believe AAB is doing everything he can to get a grip of reality. However, he needs to take more serious action too. Not mere cakap saja. It is like hangat hangat tahi ayam and then after that, nothing happens.
We can have a lot of commissions but even then does these commissions bring about changes..? I rather have one powerful altruistic person who can do things but then again I vote for checks and balances of power.
Oh well, don't be dishearten. I listened to this song by the Carpenters' Only Yesterday.
"Only yesterday when I was sad and I was lonely,
You showed me the way to leave the past and all it's tears behind me.
Tomorrow maybe even brighter than today since I threw my sadness away.
Only yesterday"
There is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Cheers desi...
p.s. Miss McBeal wasn't available because of the mata-mata hawking over the pirates. You know what I mean!
Those boys can teach them a thing or two about arriving on time. :-P
Desi - yes I agree to disagree with you.
I like THE SUN - only THE SUN. My 30-sen SMS is a happy contribution if it's gonna help keep THE SUN afloat (and also keep Citizen Nades in the news).
Even if you don't share my sentiments, it's fine. At least I tried. And I still choose to :). Cheers!
How is the government gonna regain the public's faith in the govt when most from the public do not even wanna give them a chance and continue to look at every situation from one angle only? It takes two to tango.
SMSes? Gosh, I thought phone calls are faster. Put them police no. on your speed dial. Dialing speed dial is faster than typing H-E-L-P and all those SMSing processes right?
