Bersih 2.0 officials have criticised plans by Malaysia's Internet regulator to block websites with information on this weekend’s Bersih 4 rally, calling it an act of "colonisation".

The electoral reform group is also urging the public to register their protest against the move by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) which it said was akin to censorship.

Steering committee member New Sin Yew said that MCMC had no right to block sites and that Bersih would not hesitate to take legal action against the commission if it did not reverse its decision.
"As Malaysians we have the right to information, so please drop them an email or write a letter and tell them they do not have the right to block access," New said at a press conference today.
"How will information on Bersih 4 threaten public order, they will have to prove it if we take them to court," New said, urging people to forward their complaints on MCMC to the rally organiser as well.
MCMC today announced plans to block websites that promoted and shared information on the August 29 to 30 rally that will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
It said the decision was made to block websites that "promote, spread information and encourage people to join the Bersih 4 demonstration", on grounds that this would "threaten national stability".

Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah also criticised MCMC, saying it was supposed to be promoting free flow of information.

"We will strongly protest against the ban," she said at a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

Bersih 2.0 resource person Dr Wong Chin Huat said MCMC's move was "like a colonising body to a colonised people" and sent the wrong signal to the Malaysian economy.
"The free flow of information is a prerequisite for a modern economy to operate. Malaysia is not China, which is so large it can afford to suppress its own media.
"What will you ban next, this is setting a bad precedent," Wong said, adding that people should be allowed access to information and to make their own informed decisions.
Meanwhile, Kerabat, a group of military pensioners, expressed support for the rally, with its president Lt Col (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar saying every Malaysian should "feel" for Bersih 4.
"Merdeka this year would be meaningless without Bersih.
"If you do not support Bersih, that means your soul is no longer clean," said Nazari, who was present at the press conference today with Bersih 2.0 today.
Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia vice president Zaid Kamaruddin said that the time was right for the people to rally for reforms.

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 26 — Malaysia has been recognised as a “model” nation in the fight against graft worldwide after it was picked to host the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) 2015, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Datuk Mustafar Ali said today.
The deputy commissioner in charge of the agency’s graft-prevention department said Malaysia was chosen to host the prestigious conference because of the admiration towards Putrajaya’s commitment to battle graft.
The forum is organised by the IACC, Transparency International (TI) and Transparency-International-Malaysia (TI-M).
“The MACC, particularly Malaysia, was chosen to become the host this time because it is seen as a country that is committed to battle graft in Asia.
“Malaysia is seen as a model nation in the fight against corruption not only  domestically, but internationally as well,” Mustafar told a press conference announcing the event here.
He further said that many of the policies put forward by the MACC in the fight against corruption have also been recognised by the international community.
It is understood that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was initially scheduled to inaugurate the conference which will take place for four days beginning September 2.
But he has since pulled out. No explanation was given.

MY parting quotes, TWO GENERAL PLUS about CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE:~~

QUOTE *(1)

"Dictators ride to and fro on tigers they dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry."

QUOTE**(2)

"Whom the gods would destroy"

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The phrase "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad" is spoken by Prometheus in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "The Masque of Pandora" (1875). Another version ("Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad") is quoted as a "heathen proverb" in Daniel, a Model for Young Men (1854) by William Anderson Scott (1813–1885).

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE IS GAINING POWER BECAUSE OF A GROWING DICTATORSHIP

THESE UMNO-oh-NO leaders are so out of touch with the COMMON FOLK.

LET DESi start with a few quotable quotes on the subject, from GREat MEn of HIStory, none From NEgaraKU, minta maaf:~~

Martin Luther King Jr.
“An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law”
Martin Luther King Jr.
Henry David Thoreau “If the injustice is part of the necessary friction of the machine of government, let it go, let it go: perchance it will wear smooth--certainly the machine will wear out… but if it is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then I say, break the law. Let your life be a counter-friction to stop the machine. What I have to do is to see, at any rate, that I do not lend myself to the wrong which I condemn.”
Henry David Thoreau

Martin Luther King Jr.
“One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
Howard Zinn
“Protest beyond the law is not a departure from democracy; it is absolutely essential to it.”
Howard Zinn
Aristotle
“It is not always the same thing to be a good man and a good citizen.”
Aristotle, Selected Writings From The Nicomachean Ethics And Politics
Martin Luther King Jr.
“An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law”
Martin Luther King Jr.
