AUSTRALIAN women are among the most timid in the world when it comes to self-promotion at work and career networking, a survey shows.

US researcher Shannon Goodson says Australia's professional women are not earning what they are worth because they "struggle with stage fright and sensitivities about appearing too forward, pushy or intrusive", the Advertiser reports.

Some are also hampered by female bosses who sabotage their advancement prospects.

Her international survey says British women are the best at self-promotion.

They are followed by American women, while Chinese women outboast their male colleagues when it comes to advancing their own interests at work.

Ms Goodson said she was surprised by the results, given the stereotype of the meek English woman and the brash, outspoken Aussie.

"I am in a working situation where men are paid more than women only because they are men, eventhough they have less qualification and technical ability. There are so many young women in my office taking maternity leave. That is why the boss prefers men. But I feel outraged about the discrimination. PS: Out of gratitude to the Aussie government for paying me moolah though I am a pig,not a cow, for 13 short years, I'm PR-ing The Lucky Country as the healthiest country to live in -- climb any tree and you get Adam's apple -- shoot wildly, you get a sheep -- crash any BBQ party, you get a hotdog. Avoid the sheila -- they are timid only at work, but at a partiee, I hear they are members of the AMAZON publishing book company. They are used to many CHAPters.:):)
