There is more than meets the eye nowadays when you listen to government leaders speaking, especially when overseas and addressing only certain targeted groups...
When I read the following, my reaction is whispering to myself:
Is he talking crap?

Money is not everything students told
KUALA LUMPUR: Money is not everything, Malaysian medical students in Britain have been told.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said the students must have a strong sense of nationalism and patriotism, and should return home to serve the country after completing their studies,
He said that despite the lower financial reward in the government service, the students should be proud to serve the Government, just like many other doctors who continued to be in the civil service although they could have opted for private practice.
“As a developing country, it is impossible for Malaysia to match the salaries of doctors in Britain. We don’t have such deep pockets.
“Money should not be everything,” he told about 100 Malaysian students at a dialogue organised by the Malaysian Students Department in London yesterday.
Mustapa was responding to a student’s query on last month’s survey by the UK Executive Council for Malaysian Students which found that low pay and long working hours in government service were among the reasons Malaysian medical students were reluctant to return home after completing their studies in Britain.
The survey covered mostly medical, engineering and accountancy students who formed the bulk of the 12,000 Malaysian student population in Britain.
Mustapa said he realised that money was a big incentive for them but Malaysia was not “a bottomless pit”.
To be fair, he said, service conditions and the prospects for promotion in Malaysia had improved over the years as better facilities for government hospitals had been built.
Mustapa said the Government was always mindful of the need to create a more conducive research environment by giving greater emphasis to scholarship and improving the education quality for lecturers and students.
Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, RM1.2bil has been allocated to train lecturers and finance their studies – about three times higher than that allocated under the previous Plan.
“The Government is also committed to improving the quality of Malaysian graduates to enable them to compete in the international market,” he added.
DESIDERATA has written a post "Integrity Needs Proper Role Models", dated Nov 7, 2005, and some relevant extracts follow:
~~~~~~~~
"Awards of contracts and scholarships going to those less-in-need, even to those rich-and-connected over those truly desrerving and job-professionals -- hence the tax-payers see his money going down the drain, year after year.
"No wonder the First National Integrity Day passed us by without ...what?
Maybe next they would be having a social activist drining Mercedes Benz who fights for so many social causes from the cool comfort of the Board Room --- wonder why the media keep on quoting the same old tired VOICES OF INTEGRITY?
SHOCKING
RM100million down the drain
It's a tale of money down the drain. Malaysian students, on public
scholarships who studied in Ireland at a cost of between RM60million
and RM100million to become doctors, have turned their
backs on the country.
SHOCKING
'They have also become a bad
influence on otrher Malaysians
pursuing medical degress overseas'
~~~~~~~~~~
The report had quoted Dr Chua Soi Lek, Health Minister, talking about Malaysians on scholarhi[ps studying in Ireland who NEVER RETURNED TO SERVE THEIR BONDS!
Now Desi's Q -- which I think many fellow Malaysians would like YB DATUK MUSTAPA MOHAMED to enlioghten us, the taxpapers:
What has the Government done/ will the Government do to punish these ungrateful, delinquent Malaysians who broke their bonds?
I know had these scholarships gone to other Malaysians who studied under FAM scholarhsips (FAM: Father and Mother, not any Government or sports body, you dumbasses!), everyone of them would have been so grateful to have saved RM750,000 to RM1million (Yes, that's what's spent on a Medical/DEntal/Pharmacy Course overseas!), they would have gladly returned to NegaraKU to serve out the BOND, never mind the pur[pported "low pay". As I said in my earlier post, IT"S NOT ABOUT THE "LOW PAY" -- IT"S MAINLY ABOUT THE RACED-BASED POLITICS!
I know of many parents selling or mortgaging their second house, even their only house, to enable a child to study medicine/dentistry/pharmacy in Australia, New Zealand, where the exchange rate is already lower thah in UK/ IUSA, and they have top spend some RM750,000. Some have had to borrow from the banks.
So Mr Minister, STOP TALKING CRAP ABOUT HAVING "a strong sense of nationalism and patriotism" ... who would put the food on the table if these graduates with RM500,000 debts to sevice to serve in NegaraKu with a starting pay of about RM2,000-RM2,500 which is not even enogh to pay for the bank's interest?
Meanwhile, can you go after those "unpatriotic" bond-breakers?!
Never mind, the YB MINISTER MUSTAPA knows better!
I don't know if I can follow up with YB Dr Chua Soi Lek?
Ah, never mind, mGf whispers, you are not MICHAEL Chong! Luckily, I'm also not Jiu Huang Ye.
So many questions on Tuesday. DefinAtely A Tuesdae With Worries. No wonder I even got my spelling wlong! FAshionistA, guess how many in the precedent two sentences? I'd belanja Teh-C for gassing rite.:):)

How to get back the money from bond breakers?
1) Post their faces on National TV and Astro, 'Malaysia's Most Ungrateful.'
2) Viewers get to cast their *SMS vote on the course of action to be taken.
* standard SMS rate apllies.
We can get ideas how to deal with these bondbreakers and at the same time, garmen can cut their losses with help from the telcos...
helen:
Good idea -- now be a GOoD PR gal and contact RTElm, TV3 and TV8, Astro with the fab idea.
Jest remember my 30% cut -- Oouch! I got a nudge-groiwng-into-Apinch on the wastelines ...
PS: Want to organise a "demo" at KLIA to greet Higher Education Minister on his return from overseas? Tell him NegaraKu will never get a reasonable quota of Dr-To-People ratio the Gomen is pampering all these INGRATES. Shame them on TV, yeah, YEah, YEAH!
At my end, bond-breakers have to pay back the money or be made monkey, as stipulated in their contracts, either through their own pockets or find a potential employer to do that. Who would dare to employ a breaker of bond, and trust him to sing your song? He's like the "koyot" man who bashed his gong ripping off the throng.
Of course, if rules can be pulled and are not strict if you know the trick, then the bond money spent will be like water poured into sand. Everything boils down to the man who plans the future resources of the land.
"1) Post their faces on National TV and Astro, 'Malaysia's Most Ungrateful.'"
Can't do that, lah... Some of them have relatives working in cabinet and they have relatives also working in national newspaper and national tv.
Desi, call me prejudice. The last time I took a fren to GH for checkup, the lady doctor did not even touch my fren (male). Swear!!!!! Dr House is crap compared to this lady genius. She can diagnose my fren without any contact whatsoever. Maybe she's scared someone will burst into the room and issue a saman.... Afterall, she is covered from head to toe...
lcteh - hahahaha. If that is the case, that will lead to a spinoff series ala Justice Pao and how relations are severed in the name of justice.
Desi, Actually, can't they ask for guarantors like banks??
Just spotted in N38 Opinion page of The Star~~~~~~~
"Take good care of our own doctors first"
I refer to your report on a survey on why Malaysians working overseas are reluctant to come back to serve the nation, “Poor pay keeping best brains away” (The Star, April 30).
I started my housemanship in the salary scale of U41 in 2001 and completed my compulsory service last year. in 2005. I started as a houseman in a salary scale of U41.
I was so happy when I passed my MRCP (UK) last year, thinking that being a clinical specialist, I could get a higher salary. However, I was disappointed after finding out that there was only a “two-step” pay rise, which is only and extra of RM150 plus.
The Government is willing to pay higher salaries to expatriate specialist doctors but keeps under paying our own doctors!
How can this thing happen? There are so many failed projects, especially in the public sector. Why can’t the Government save all this money and channel it to the underpaid Government servants?
We want first-world infrastructure and want our people to have first-world mentality. But how are we going to achieve this if we are paying our people third-world salaries?
DR HK GOH,

Read this article this morning.
I've already have 5 friends under JPA and they are very rich (defined as having at least 2 merz, living in a bungalow in the higher end neighbourhood). Then I've seen those, who were very poor but good and still wasn't accepted. I don't know what unfair is called. Results is one thing; but the family background should be checked. If they can afford, maybe subsidise a bit is good enough I think. Let's not forget the race issue too.
In my uni, on top of uni fees and uni's best hostel, the sponsored ones get 600 quid per month.
In my case, serving for the government for 3 years is fine enough, but the pay is only RM2000 and you get relocated to nowhere.
Am I going home? Maybe..maybe not.

Nyak ha ha... I remember one time long ago when I had buasir (piles) and I purposely chose another doctor other than my regular because I heard he was away and replaced by a lady. So I went to clinic F (supposedly male doctor there) so I thought it should be a guy looking in my other end. Lo. I went in there and there was this lady doctor, (wearing tudung some more) and a lady assistant lagi. Talk about embarrassment!!! I had to lie down for both to take a peek at my behind...
lc teh:
