Pak Lah: Party-hoppers have no integrity

KUALA LUMPUR: Elected Barisan Nasional representatives who want to defect to the Opposition are “devoid of integrity,” said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He added that they were despicable for wanting to cross over to the Opposition because they have won their seats in the general election based on support from their constituents.

The Barisan Nasional chairman said such representatives could not deny the fact that they won their seats based on the people’s wishes.

“But, they don’t seem to care about the people. If money had been used (to buy them over) then this is a form of corruption.

“This does not reflect integrity on their part while being involved in a political democracy,” he told reporters after speaking to about 1,000 Umno grassroots leaders in a closed-door briefing session at the PWTC yesterday.

Abdullah was asked to comment on reports quoting PKR vice-president Mohd Azmin Ali as claiming that the party had persuaded nearly 30 Barisan MPs to reject the Prime Minister’s leadership.

Barisan won 140 parliamentary seats while the Opposition took 82. It lacks eight seats to form the two-thirds majority in Parliament.

Pakatan Rakyat claims it has enough Barisan MPs to cross over to its side and form the new Federal Government.

Azmin said these Barisan MPs could back the Opposition with a motion of no confidence against Abdullah.

He had said the MPs wanted someone who is strong and credible to lead the country, adding that they felt PKR de facto Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was the best candidate.

To this, Abdullah said: “Their leader cannot wait to become the Prime Minister.”

Anwar could return to active politics on April 15 after the expiry of a five-year ban following a corruption conviction.

DESIDERATA:

Actually, I was referring to a saying that's goose-related:

What's Sauce for the Goose,
Is Sauce for the Gander.

INTEGRITY -- is that a new word in ex-MB double Muhammad's vocab?

In this case, what was Pak Lah's stand -- was he asleep awe the time? -- when the ilks of Tiger Lee, Khoo Seng Hock and Lim Fui Ming, all elected on DAP ticket, jumped ship to MCA?
