Ex-PM versus current Opposition Leader, WHO WILL PREVAIL?

If you were to believe former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, current Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is guilty of fanning a regime change in Malaysia ala the Arab Spring. If this is his real concern, I salute the PM-for-22-years ruining all the key institutions of NegaraKu -- among them The Judiciary, The Royal Police Malaysian Force -- besides perpetuating a highly inept and corrupt Executive branch. To me, Dr Mahathir's only saving grace was bringing the overly-privileged Royalty to heel; where previously any royal miscreant could not be brought before the courts, now they could, and indeed some have been.

Now can you forgive Desi if deep in my heart I say that if Anwar could galvanise the citizenry to topple a government who has overstayed its welcome, I say: Welcome, let's do it. PAS spring, PKR spring, DAP spring -- as long as it's for REGIME CHANGE.

Frankly, Malaysians like me in the 60s, don't wish to be so dependent on overseas support -- be it American, British, Europe, India or China -- to lend us a helping hand in coiling up a successful spring. We have our internal energy and strength to MARCH TO PUTRAJAYA and tell the corrupt UMNO-headed Regime: "Enough Is Enough!"

*********************

To be continued: Be patient okay, Mr/Ms Patient is also Ms Virtuous:)

I can say that as the Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir in his heydays, had indeed many Jews for friends, associates or "employees", so let me recount them in a quick recall:~~

* In the General Elections preceding the sacking of then deputy UMNO President-cum-Deputy PM Anwar, Mahathir had engaged UK-based Saatchi & Saatchi as public relations consultants. Later, they helped the PM's daughter Marina, to set up a Malaysian wing, but I can't recollect the name, and I stand corrected on this point.

** Yes, other Jewish companies like Goldman Sachs were also appointed as consultants for various projects and tasks. In particular, even as Anwar was sacked in September 1998 because of differing views on meeting the Asian financial crisis -- including using Petronas oil money to bail out one of his sons' sinking shipping company -- Mahathir engaged Salomon Smith Barney, a Jewish firm, to advise him on how to manage the financial crisis. Of course, Mahathir wanted us to believe that Anwar wanted to follow the International Monetary Fund formula to overcome the crisis, and Mahathir had no choice but to remove the deputy for not taking the good doctor in the house's medicine, which later saw the currency controls, arguably as the one magic measure that saved "Malaysia" from going under. Digressing a bit, but that claim of Mahathir having saved the country from bankruptsy is really academic, seeing how other countries like Thailand and Indonesia which adopted the IMF way, still managed to brave their way through the challenging times. And of course, had Anwar's option been exercised, it would have stopped the National Economic Policy (NEP) from being abused for another 15 years, a policy which has been, and is still proven to be ineffective because the Bumiputras' equity of the country's wealth remained/remains/stood still at about 20percent -- taking the UMNO regime's figures as gospel truth-lah. In contrast, renowned academics like Centre for Policy Initiatives' director Dr Lim Teck Ghee, who came along with World Bank's credentials, had in a study claimed the NEP's target of 30percent equity had been far exceeded a decade ago, more like closer to 45percent, causing him to depart from ASLI under which he had released the study's findings (and incidentally ASLI was/is headed by another Mahathir's son...) and the big bosses disavowed association with Dr Lim's findings.

*** Prof Jeffrey Sachs from Harvard, one of Mahathir's top economic advisors, is also a Jew, a frequent speaker at the annual MSC international meets; another was John Nasbitt. But giving credit where it's due, the MSC -- Multimedia Super Corridor -- we Malaysians thank the former PM for as he did institute among the MSC's Bills of Guarantees of not "censoring the Internet". Otherwise, Desi's and other intrepid BUMmers would have had their writings "blacked" out like they once did to Far Eastern Economic Review pages on Malaysia's dark sores! Hey, Desi in not a diehard Oppositionist and will continue to give credit where credit is due, just as I had applauded MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek for his great work as then Minister of Health (which preceded his minsitry of Hell as some detractors -- knot Desi K! --renamed his leadership!)

To be continued, as I hear the thunder, and I can't afford another lightning strike to make my PC kaput (and I don't have the millions stored in Jewish banks OK!:), which would make MCMC honcho Rais Yatim pretty happy and one less irritant to his ministry now plotting how to erase Mahathir's Bill of Guarantee ensure zero-censorship...(

Will liars and swindlers of taxpayers' money go to Heaven?

Parliamentary panel was told NFC cannot use loans for property

February 10, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — The Finance Ministry had told a parliamentary committee last November that there was no provision that permits the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) to use its federal loan to purchase property.

A ministry official had disclosed this to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) during a meeting convened to discuss the NFCorp issue and was “very specific” that such loans could not be used for purposes other than what had been specified, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua revealed today.

Pua (picture), who sits on the PAC, said the senior official had explained during the meeting on November 23, 2011 that the purpose of each drawdown must be clearly stated, and that the ministry had never received an application from NFCorp to purchase property.

“Therefore if the senior MoF official was telling the truth when testifying with the PAC, then Wan Shahinur Izmir (Salleh) must be lying through his teeth to defend the indefensible,” Pua said in a statement.

Wan Shahinur Izmir, NFCorp’s chief executive, said yesterday that the company had the right to use its RM250 million soft loan from the government as it saw fit, even to invest in property, as long as it repaid the interest.

He was responding to claims by PKR that NFCorp had purchased two luxury condominiums worth RM34 million in Singapore’s posh Marina Bay Suites.

Wan Shahinur Izmir said the company had decided that it would make better use of the money by investing in property during a break in business operations caused by the government’s decision to suspend construction of an abattoir that would have been rented to NFCorp.

Pua said PAC has yet to be presented with documents relating to NFCorp — including the loan agreement, schedule, terms and conditions of the loan drawdown and financial reports — despite specifically requesting for them at the November meeting.

“It was decided during the meeting that the next meeting shall be held at the soonest possible time in January to ensure that the PAC is able to get to the bottom of the scandal,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that no meeting has yet been called by the PAC chairman to date on this matter... We hope that the matters will not be delayed further as the rakyat deserves to know the truth, and nothing but the truth.”

NFCorp hit the headlines following last year’s Auditor-General’s Report, and has continued to hog the limelight after it was linked to federal minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil’s family.

The publicly-funded company is headed by her husband, Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail. Their three children, including Wan Shahinur Izmir, also hold executive posts in the company.

PKR has since made several revelations relating to the scandal, including NFCorp’s purchase of two luxury condominium units in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, and the alleged use of project funds to pay for Shahrizat and her family’s personal expenses.

The opposition party has also alleged that Shahrizat’s family used nearly RM600,000 from NFCorp’s funds to settle their credit card bills in 2009.

But the management of NFCorp has maintained that the credit card expenses were solely for business purposes.

It has also denied allegations that funds from the RM250 million government loan were channelled into its accounts before the loan agreement was signed.

Shahrizat applied for three weeks’ leave from her duties last month after new allegations of bribery surfaced. She has since resumed her duties.

On Wednesday, she was called in for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced last month Putrajaya would appoint an auditor to scrutinise NFCorp’s books in light of accusations made against the company.

DESIDERATA: I must thank MI for running gOod stories regardless of whether UMNO, UMCA or PKR, DAP miscreants have their backsides exposed. Frankly, I don't care whether the NFC's topguns go to Heaven or Hell. We the Rakyat must make sure they are hauled second to the Cpourts to answer many charges, now they have been exposed by the Court of Public Opinion, yes?

An angelic Voice -- Whitney Houston -- has left us...

but her heavenly company will still abide by human kind who art kind and gentle, and believe in ever-lasting living.

And mGf from Down Under shares a similar sentiment with desis's, viz;

"I'm sure God will let Whitney in with A beautiful voice like hers .. " ~~ sweetsspirits:)
I came back from a long" brunch starting at 9.30AM and ushered away by the stall owner at 2.00PM -- beneath an 100-year-old angsana tree -- ich we awe wished was a durian tree! -- the brunch consisted of RM1.30 nazi lemak, washed down wit' RM1 tehtarik; then we rested and I enterained 'em with short stories including whether we'd like to go elsewhere with Dolly Parton than ushered into that glory place with the Queen, but I won't repeat it hear because my innocent ER don't play Poke and so don't know what is royal flush and the greatest Pears on earth on a femail bod.

Then my wiser audience comprising God-fearing Furongites revealed in a show of hands they'd rather go where Dolly (no, not the first genetically engineered sheep, you goat!), Marilyn M, Ziana Z and Madonna would likely go or had gone. Please this ws only a "straw poll" amongst simpletons staying in Malaysia's peytonplacesque Seremban. We are a long, long way from Tipperary or Where Einstein and Newton lived OK! Then we had lunch with Desi sharing a Rawa tosai with a matey knot lawar at all but baik-baik at heART.

I returned home falf-dazed on two kopi-oh and bizarre tails from the Furong General to be right or left on time to watch Breaking News on CCN that Whitney Houston had been found dead at a hotel at the young tender age of 48. I have always enjoyed vocalists with a wide range and heart-stopping climaxes, though I still preferred Faith Hill anytime.

I compleatly agree with SweetSpirits that Whitney's voice was in the realm of heavenly beauty, and hearing just two testimonies -- from Simon Cowell and Lionel Ritchie -- one would know tomorrow's newspapers would have frontpage songs of praise mournig an angelic voice's premature departure.

I will wish Whitney complete serenity and rest at the place she has gone to before us most sinning mortals. God bless her with all her human frailties and all the awesome vocal assets she had been entertaining we humans worldwide. It's a universal loss. God bless the world with more folks like Whitney. Rest in peAce ~~ Amen.

Pop Vocal Legend Whitney Houston Found Dead

By Billy Johnson, Jr. | Stop The Presses! – 3 hours ago

Follow me on Facebook, Twitter.

Whitney Houston WireImage/Tibrina HobsonToo many of us—myself included—are guilty of making insensitive jokes about the demise of Whitney Houston, her frail frame, loss of one of pop's purest voices, and battle with drugs.

But none of us are laughing now.

On Saturday, Houston's publicist confirmed to the Associated Press that the award-winning "I Will Always Love You" singer died. She was 48. The timing of her death, the eve of the Grammys, the biggest music event of the year, makes the horrible news even more tragic. According to CNN, Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. PT at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Beverly Hilton is the venue for the music industry's most prestigious pre-Grammy party hosted by veteran executive Clive Davis, who discovered Houston.

In an industry flooded with novelty artists, who disappear after scoring one hit, Houston's longevity was unquestioned when she released her debut single, the ballad "You Give Good Love" in February 1985. The song's soothing opening ad-libs displayed her soulful roots while also celebrating her pop sensibilities.

Houston's sound was distinct, and clearly separated her from the funk-laden stylings of the era's other female R&B singers. Plus, she was a model who appeared in "Glamour" and "Cosmopolitan" magazines.

Houston's sound made sense when considering her pedigree. She was the perfect melding of the styles of her mother, gospel singer Cissy Houston; cousin, 1960s pop singer Dionne Warwick; and godmother, queen of soul Aretha Franklin.

Houston's self-titled debut album topped the charts and was certified diamond. Her career was impenetrable throughout the release of several follow up albums, 1987's "Whitney," 1990's "I'm Your Baby Tonight," and 1992's "The Bodyguard" soundtrack.

Houston's fans were concerned when she married R&B bad boy Bobby Brown in 1992, but they professed their happiness.

By the late 1990s, Houston's drug problems began to become tabloid fodder. In a 2002 interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, Houston admitted to her struggles, but maintained that she was doing fine.

The public received its first real glimpse of Houston behind-the-scenes in 2004 when she appeared on Brown's reality series "Being Bobby Brown." The bad publicity move depicted Houston as profane, combative, and delusional, seemingly supporting the behavior of someone on drugs.

Among the saddest indications of Houston's fall was her 2009 comeback album, "I Look To You." While the album received positive reviews, her live performances signaled that the damage to her voice was beyond repair.

Concertgoers stormed out of her 2010 "Nothing But Love World Tour" angry, complaining that Houston was not fit to sing live, and they demanded that their ticket costs be refunded.

On stage, Houston made light of her vocal struggles, and even seemed to be confident when doing so.

But the public scrutiny intensified, and was followed by additional stints in rehab.

While the cause of death has not yet been revealed, one can only wonder whether it was drug-related.

Anyone who remembers Houston's early work and the impact it had on music can only be saddened by her death.

I extend condolences to her family and friends, especially her daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

Die on the same day and they both go

Unfortunately, there's only one space left that day,

So the Angel must decide which of them gets in.

The Angel asks Dolly if there's some particular

Reason why she should go to Heaven.

Dolly takes off her top and says, 'Look at these,

They're the most perfect breasts God ever created,

And I'm sure it will please God to be able to see

Them every day, for eternity.'

The Angel thanks Dolly, and asks Her Majesty

The same question. The Queen takes a bottle of

A former Justice I enjoy with (late) Ancient Mariner often with jokes over a bonfire in olde AustraMalysia sent me knotty ditties -- knot dirty OK! you Ignormaus!~~~ defined as four-line humourous songs sung when you are drunk on Foster's or tehtarik or Rut Bir:)

Who would have guessed!
the Aborigines have badder genes than unigrad (from Oxford like SILonce the second most powderfool man in Mailsia?)

The Australian Poetry Competition had come down to two finalists; a university graduate and an old aboriginal. They were given a word, then allowed two minutes to study the word and come up with a poem that contained the word. The word they were given was 'TIMBUKTU'

First to recite his poem was the university graduate. He stepped to the microphone and said:

"Slowly across the desert sand,
Trekked a lonely caravan
Men on camels two by two
Destination - Timbuktu."

The crowd went crazy! No way could the old aboriginal top that, they thought.

The old aboriginal calmly made his way to the microphone and recited:
"Me and Tim a huntin' went,
Met three whores in a pop up tent,
They were three, and we was two
So I bucked one, and tim buktu."

The aboriginal won.

I just watched Piers Morgan's and Jon Voight reminiscences...

of how he landed the role of Midnight Cowboy mesmerised me enough to jot here/hear a few notes to share.

(Oops, jest received a friendly call for lunch and Desi's not one to decline, so be Ms Patience eh! Also, I writHe badder on a fool tummy, so acquiring patience's Virtuosity is a bonus!:)

AP to my millions of er out dare: This post was supposed to have been completed yesterday; the delay is a case of Desi's spirit was willing, the body was weak. My body not yours okay. Not dead. Nyet! Otherwise, you would be hearing a voice from beyong the grave, and the program (the Americanoes spell it thus, thought Desi the half-Brit prefers Programme!:( you watch would've been Twilight Zone, knot Piers Morgan Tonight, or lust night, whatever night, it's steal delayed.

Sorry for the digression, but that's the privilege of owning your own blog -- do what you want, it's the MOST DEMOCRATIC medoium of conversations with your friends, your enemies, yourself, even wit' the departed if they could catch a midnight voice:)!

My take on Jon Voight -- finally! -- telling about landing that Midnight Cowboy role that launched him into stardom. Knot kingdom come, that will wait for a long time, both Jon Voight and Desi are pretty and patient over such matters.

*****************************************************

THE FOLLOWING IS JUST A YOUNG WRIThER'S PARAPHRASE, OK! And I'm taking the liberties even with the quotes, so it's as close to the original as can be.

Jon (now I'm on first nama basis:) said the producer or director had narrowed down to three choices; then of Jon and the Other they picked the Other. Very soon, the producer/director got onto the phone to jon: "Hey, yoiu are back again (the Other piss'd me off by asking a helly sum -- (oops, this is taking Poetic Licence too far, consider the bracketed joke as my imagination, hence censored!) -- so please wait by the line and I will get back to thee soonest, like 10AM tomorrow."

Jon told Piers he slept less than 40winks that night, like a young cowboy who had been promised he would be riding a young stude the sext day, and it's female.

So Jon got up bright and early the sext die (yes, some Americanoes pronounce day as the Aussies do, or my hearing was really bad!), and "next" is spelt wit' an "s" not an "n" because cowboys awesomelly always have sex on their mind. Not mine.

Still with time to spare Jon went out to but some groceries. It was a cold dull day; on the way back he spied a man in shabby clothes walking in the middle of the road blocking his progress home.

Kindly Jon alighted -- for Ignormauses with limited vocab, this means "got down"-lah! and it was a bit dark remember? -- hurried to the shab man, "Hey buddie, you aren't ready yet to die. Come on into my car, sit tight while I go over to that kedai to get ye a whisky..."

So kingly Jon drove back to his home -- must be not palatial yet, and Piers did not tell-- and both host and shab men went in for some hot drinbks. No, it's not tehtarik! Not kopi! It's the whisky they gobbled down in doubly quick time to warm their bodies, live of course. (Digressing again, and aggressing2, did you know this is the favourite drink of Dr Ling LS, he must have it everyt night -- that would explain his speaking like highly spirited but half muummmble at press conferences on some dies:(

Jon told the Shab man aka GEORGE -- now I recall after I'd typed Shab man all the way down another 10paras -- about the important phone call coming any second.
"Yeah, you will make a great Midnight Kowboi!" came the guest's reply. "and I willl pray very heART for you, my friend. You in fact look the part now..."

The phone then rang. Beckoning the Shab guest to come near, Jon slowly picked up the ring ting: "Hey, .......(nama I did not pick out), thanks for calling.

"I believe I am made for the part (paraphrasing Shab man's words)You wanna meet me to chat, Okay, no prob!"

So in a jiffy and a parting "Help thyself to the whisky, K" to the Shab man, Jon headed for the meeting place. Had a friendly cowboy-to-cowbot pow-wow... then like a Ms Patience, Jon drove home with a light heART.

Jon told Shab man, who was now also in high spirits, that he had told the interviewer he was definitely interested in the midnight pal's part. Now it's another waiting game -- as the producer/director to give him "some" time; methinks he had to consult the financier as calculate his cut and Jon's humble paycheque. You know, cowboys are normally very humble and kind by nature; ask Desi's mates, theyawe sing Hank William's Your Cheatin' Heart like a pro Cos they with a kind and humble heart always got cheated!)

Very soon, the ring ting rang again. Long story short, yes, Jon received the gOoD news that he will be the Midnight Cowboy.

So Jon and the Shab man did a raunchy number around the fire and downed the whisky and sang You Cheating' Heart in a lighthearted style -- yes, cowboys are also contrarians sometimes/dimes.

"You know what," Jon told Piers: "If that day I had not encountered a shabbily dressed stranger on the road, I would not have said certain lines I borrowed from George and hence, I believe I wouldn't have graduated to become the Midnight Cowboy!"

"Yes, you are lucky, kind man Jon. May we all meet a George in our lives!" Piers AP(worth 20million man!) -pily rounded up the interview.

DESIDERATA's parting whisky short: I am steal waiting for Georgie Girl to appear in my writHer's chirch-mousey life. Cheers, join me sometime at Buttelfry Varrey sext to Temiang Corner -- how about this Saturday about 9PM? -- and we will all yelar Jambaraya ala Furong chinoserie kowboi, knot midnight, stylo:).

THE VOICE, knot midnight, and a cvowboy's aSspiring Tail

The second season of THE VOICE just started, and it's televised over Astro in the same week after its US broadcast. The Voice 2 first episode prefaced that the competition is going to be fiercer than the year before. The truly honest "interactive" eexchanges between the judges and contestants, as well as some among the judges too -- are these rehearsed before? -- provide lessons for artists 2B, both American and foreign, including Malaysians who have an open mind. Like mine-lah! (The Mouth2!)

I find this talent hunt show more spontaneous than the American Idol -- and Desi has always has a soft spot for "country singers" who also have a soft spot for Blake (who has a lovely wife for a singer-- Wow, lucky couple, just like Tim McGraw and FAITH HILL. If you have been a regular reader hear, hey, you would have noticed I have a soft spot for Faith.

I think Malaysia has got lots of talent too except the national TV stations always run their talent shows with a "ethnic" bias -- and I won't elaborate just in case the ilks of Ibrahim aRSEli and Hassan aRSEli2 cometh after Desi, and I don't think much of cowboys like me, Nashville in 10nyC. Perhaps a privileged Doctor of kows&ghosts and a miniSTER who raise lembu in condominiums make badder company for the two ....holes.

And following is a narrative I received via Email for one half of Tom&Jerry today -- I almost choked on my supper of bifstick and chick drumsteak. Poor me, I got awe my sperring screwed up because of too much sugared cookies and overdosed on Vitamin C minus the Vit M in too many Mandarin oranges.

DISaRSEsociation Disclaimer: This narrative does not feature any person dead or alive in NegaraKu or the great US of A, so any resemblance is strictly cooked/cocked up and mayhaps due to the reader's misguided dan colorfool imagineNATION!

Bodek miniSTER called PrimeMeater one am and said, "pm, I have a plan to win back our kampung folk for GE13!"

"Great mini, but how?" asked PrimeMeater.

"We'll get some plain baju and slippers, like most kampung people wear,

then stop at the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) in Nashville and pick up a nice-looking cow.

Then, we'll go to a nice old country kedai kopi and show them how much admiration and respect

we have for the hard working people living there."

So they did, and found just the place they were looking for in that litter town in Tennysee.

With the cow in tow, they walked inside and stepped up to the counter.

The saloon owner took a step back and said, "Hey! Aren't you PrimeMeater and miniSTER?"

"Yes we are!" said minSTER, "And what a lovely town you have here.

We were visiting the NFC and PrimeMeater here suggested we stop and take in some local colour."

They ordered a round of teh tarik for the whole shop and started chatting up a storm with anyone who would listen.

A few minutes later, a grizzled old farmer came in, walked up to the cow,

lifted up its tail, looked underneath, shrugged his shoulders and walked out.

A few moments later, in came another old farmer.

He walked up to the cow, lifted up its tail, looked underneath, scratched his head and left the shop.

For the next hour, a dozen farmers came in, lifted the cow's tail, and left shaking their heads.

Finally, miniSTER asked, "Why did all those old farmers come in and look under the cow's tail? Is it some sort of custom?"

"No, no," said the saloon owner. "Someone's out there running around town, claiming there's a cow in here with two aRsEholes!"

The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month of the Chinese lunar year. It officially ends the Chinese New Year celebration.

During the festival, people eat yuan-xiao or glutinous dumplings, and go out to enjoy lanterns. Let's take a look at how people all over the country are preparing for the big event.

Each year, people in Fujian Province on the mainland and Mazu Island in Taiwan share the holiday spirit of the Lantern Festival. With just a few days to go, Mawei City has already geared up. At the city center, various lanterns have already been set up, among which the dragon and phoenix lantern sets are the most eye-catching.

Jiang Bin, section chief of Mawei Culture & Sports Bureau, said, "This group of lanterns are unique. The dragon is more than one hundred meters long. The phoenix together with dragon signify good luck and happiness, which perfectly matches the festive atmosphere."

celebration.

The lanterns have all been readied, and on Thursday night, they will light up both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

In Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian Province, lanterns are in hot demand. In Nanhou Street, each stand is filled with different kinds of lanterns. In addition to the traditional patterns such as lotus blossom and litchi fruit, there are also many cartoon lanterns specially made for children.

A customer said, "This year is the year of dragon. I like this dragon lantern very much."

While lanterns are selling hot, yuanxiao or glutinous dumplings are also a favorite for Chinese people during the lantern festival. In Jiangsu Province, yuanxiao takes up a major part of the frozen food section in super markets. Its round shape signifies family reunion, and Chinese people believe it will give them a good life.

Sunday's Rumination: Art thou feeling like a Rock?

I grew up quite creative influenced by English literature and the wonderful era of the Sixties when the music and songs of the Beatles and other groups like Simon and Garfunkel spanned the entire globe. I would like to think the medium of songs and music was the first medium to break down the barriers of human kind -- indeed, the first bulldozer to bring down the "physical" walls that divided nations -- along politically divergent ideologically lines mainly, viz communist, democratic and all the in-between mixes.

Today I feel the heART of the fantastic duo whose many poetic numbers formed the backback to success of "The Graduate" - you feel young again, don't you, having your first affair educated by an older woman, young man?

Today's message contained within S&G's lyrics are used as a personal mantra by Desi -- Yes, I did say I longed for that

I Am A Rock Lyrics

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/s/simon+and+garfunkel/i+am+a+rock_20124809.html ]
Don't talk of love,
But I've heard the words before;
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me;
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

And a rock feels no pain;
And an island never cries.

2012 - The Year of the Tipping Point?

By Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing

2012 - The Year of the Tipping Point?

Could 2012 become the year of the tipping point around the world?

Though we are just one month into the New Year, the signs all point to a global rebalancing that has been a long time coming.

Like any tipping point, it has been the contagion effect or coming together of a perfect storm we are witnessing.

In the eye of the storm has been the increasingly volatile discontent worldwide caused by socio-economic imbalance.

As the Euro zone debt crisis plays out, the fate of 17 countries in the Euro zone will affect not only 27 member EU countries, but trade (and worryingly), the aid dispensed by the EU to poor countries in Asia and Africa.

A cut in aid to the poor in these countries - where many of the poorest of the poor live - could set back progress and development in health, education and a host of other badly needed help.

In the United States, the presidential election which happens in November is already heating up, and who ultimately wins will be the person with the best prescription to solve America’s imbalance between the rich and the poor.

It is the same imbalance that we grapple with in our corner of the world. It is clear that this will be a major issue in the upcoming general election that will decide who leads our country for the next four years.

What is clear is that there is a seismic shift in the way citizens and their governments interact, and these are predicated on 5 universal values that are mirrored all over the world.

There is enough wealth to end poverty

Africa Children

We have 7 billion people in the world. One billion people go hungry every day.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer is a model that is economically and more importantly, morally unsustainable. The sheer weight of the challenge threatens to suffocate us; the only way out is to rebalance the equation. The poor don’t want handouts; they want a helping hand and a fair chance to fend for themselves. The current rules in most parts of the world point to the lion’s share of the economic pie go to the wealthy and well-connected is a zero sum game. The rules will change, but whether by design or default depends on the forces at work within each country.

Political leaders have much to gain to work to end poverty, much to lose if they turn a blind eye.

There is enough food to feed everyone on this planet.

There is enough wealth to end poverty.

Public demands for accountability and transparency will get louder

Big business and politics are suffering from a trust deficit amongst their populations.

In the spirit of the Arab uprising, the Occupy Wall Street movement seemed to suddenly come into our consciousness. It became the poster child of leaderless, public-led movements against economic injustice, and it has spread to key financial capitals from London to Hong Kong.

People Demand

It isn’t going away anytime soon, and the message is clear.

Trust is in short supply as a more educated population demands more accountability and transparency.

Shareholders and employees will question new business deals that they feel are not in their best interest.

Voters will want to know if their tax dollars are being used wisely by political leaders for the benefit of the nation.

And the information they seek is increasingly harder to restrict, rules notwithstanding.

How money is spent can be tracked and publicized at the click of a button.

There is no hiding or misleading.

Sooner or later, the Internet reveals all.

Direct democracy is here to stay

1 million people (of a population of 70 million) took just over 2 weeks to bring down a 30-year ruler.

The facts of the Arab uprising in Egypt are mind boggling. Almost unbelievable except that we were witness to this amazing feat.

The Arab uprisings last year brought the potent power of direct democracy into hard focus. It tapped into the energy and technological power of the millennial generation, and defined a new wave of democracy that continues to impact events in the Middle East to this day. The rule book of authoritarian regimes, narrow political interests and self-enrichment has turned to ashes. The region has turned a decisive corner, and a new future is being written.

Protester Egypt

People are reclaiming their power in the true spirit of democracy.

People don’t want to be dictated to. They want to be heard.

They want to tell politicians what’s important to them, not the other way around.

Leaders who don’t understand this fundamental shift risk alienation.

Social media wields the power of social change

Technology and tools have given the public a voice that is unprecedented, uncensored and unvarnished. There is no controlling information or ‘the message’ in the political or business sphere.

Social media has given everyone a voice, and everyone is making themselves heard on any issue that is close to their heart.

People can pick and choose how they want their news or information, and they are spoilt for choice. In Malaysia, 17 million people are online, that’s almost 65% of the population, with Facebook having a penetration rate of a whopping 75.5%.

Dictating and lecturing is out. Engaging is in.

People don’t trust carefully constructed mainstream messages.

They trust their online community.

And what they’re talking about is what really counts.

Innovation is the only way forward

The talk about innovation in Malaysia has been too tunnel-visioned. We have largely framed it in the context of innovating products. Yet, the start point of an innovation seems to have been relegated to sound bites. We have put the cart before the horse. How can we ask people to come up with innovative products when our society doesn’t have an innovative mindset?

When our schools are breeding grounds for conformity, how can our children have open minds? How can our graduates come up with innovative products and services when there is little space for critical or creative-thinking in most university curriculums? Our economic future rests on innovation - but we won’t get there if we negate all efforts by making conformity of thought the start point.

The rules of engagement - in business and government - have changed.

The balance has shifted.

The tipping point is here.

Ex-S'pore bigwig Glenn Knight: Losing control was the hardest thing

(2 votes)

When Mr Glenn Knight, 67, read The Business Times on Wednesday morning, what came to his mind was another morning years ago which changed his life forever.

He, too, was once a powerful senior civil servant whose job was to enforce the law. He, too, was scrutinised by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

His name was again in the newspapers on Wednesday.

A report in The Straits Times about two top men at the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) being investigated by CPIB for serious personal misconduct mentioned him in passing.

The report cited the two men's case as one of the highest-level probes involving public servants since Mr Knight was convicted of graft in 1992 and 1998.

His response to his story being brought up again after so many years?

"Well, it doesn't really matter any more."

More than most, he knew what it was like to be powerful one moment and devastated the next.

And what it was like to fall from high public office, and left to pick up the pieces.

The Crash

That morning, 20 years ago, his life changed.

"Everything happened within a matter of hours," says Mr Knight, who is married without kids.

"Some men, whom I recognised to be part of the CPIB, came to my house and asked me to follow them."

Surrounded by piles of files and documents in his modest law office at Toa Payoh North, the man gradually opened up about his own experience of being investigated and prosecuted.

He is soft spoken and placid, a far cry from his fiery and uncompromising days as prosecutor and director of the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD).

When this reporter called him up, it was not with the CPIB arrests in mind.

Still, he was initially reluctant to speak of his past or be dragged back into the spotlight.

After some persuasion, however, he agreed to be interviewed.

Says lawyer Edmond Pereira, who has known Mr Knight since 1979: "He was a very good deputy public prosecutor. He had a good mind, was very detailed, and took his work very seriously.

"He wasn't easy for the defence counsel to deal with, very uncompromising even when he had to prosecute high-profile personalities."

Adds criminal lawyer Amolat Singh, who interacted with Mr Knight a couple of times in the mid-1990s: "He had a reputation of being a very meticulous and tenacious lawyer, leaving no stone unturned in his work."

In March 1991, Mr Knight was replaced by senior state counsel Lawrence Ang as director of the CAD.

It was a move which surprised many CAD officers, said news reports then.

He quickly came under investigation by the CPIB for attempting and conspiring to cheat, as well as for providing false statements.

Mr Knight says the first three months after the CPIB visited him at his home were the darkest days of his life.

"The most difficult part of the whole thing was losing control. Someone came and took away your life as it were," he says as the deep lines on his face crinkle into a wistful smile.

"They took me from my home to the CPIB, then back to my office. And there was somebody else sitting at my desk," he adds, describing the feeling as a strange and sinking one.

He was then 46, and had received a Public Administration Medal (Gold) at the National Day Honours the previous year.

The medal was later revoked, along with all his medical and pension benefits.

In October 1991, Mr Knight was sentenced to three months in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges of attempted cheating and for giving false information to get a government car loan.

He later appealed and his sentence was reduced to a day in jail and a $17,000 fine.

He was struck off the rolls in 1994, which meant he was not allowed to practise law.

Mr Knight had not been able to get any meaningful employment in the three years before 1994, and had been relying on friends and relatives to help with living expenses, said his then lawyer, Mr Harry Elias.

In 1998, he was charged again - this time with another three counts of misappropriating CAD funds.

Eventually the court found him guilty of two charges, and fined him $10,000 and sent him to jail for a day.

After being debarred, he worked as a consultant for various firms, including a company which sold antiques.

His jobs yielded monthly incomes ranging between $4,000 to $10,000.

At his lowest point, which he describes as the years 2004 and 2005, he lived in a one-room flat in Chin Swee Road and his earnings dwindled to "almost nothing".

Of last week's news of the CPIB probe on the two senior civil servants, he says: "I'm much kinder now than I used to be, so when I read (the news), I thought to myself, I'll give them a chance.

He adds, after a pause: "I suppose when you get so high up the ranks, you don't think that you can make this mistake."

The Comeback

And what has it been like since then?

"He's been battered and steamrolled after what happened," says Mr Pereira. "And I admire him for his courage and determination to return to the same arena."

So what helped him through his darkest moments?

"It must have been God", replies Mr Knight.

A Christian, he adds that the ordeal deepened his faith and changed who he was.

He now lives with his wife, a writer, in a four-room flat in Tanglin Halt.

He is grateful that public attention on the case has waned through the years, and that he has been allowed to move on.

Still, it is clear that the events have left an indelible mark on his personality.

On the kind of man he was before he was investigated, he says: "I was such a strong person and I was only concerned about myself and nobody else, and everything I did was right..." he says, before trailing off.

After a pause, he adds: "You see, whenever I prosecuted anybody, I always made it a point to make sure he was guilty.

"I would spend a lot of time - sometimes close to a month - before deciding to charge him. And once I decided to charge him I would charge him all the way.

"And at that point in time, you sort of lose conception of what is right and what's wrong, you're so sure about what you're doing that you never think that you may be wrong."

Empathy comes more easily now, adds Mr Knight, who has learnt to "see people for who they really are".

"I used to care for some people in my life. Now I care for everybody.

"When someone comes to me now, I try to see what I can do for him. I see him as another person, instead of seeing him as a man who wants to do me in, or what he can do against me."

In 2007, he succeeded in getting reinstated to the bar.

It was, he says, "fantastic".

"The three judges gave me such a good judgment. I felt that they gave me a chance, that I could practise law again. I still feel good about it now," he says with a chuckle.

He recounts a case he took on after being reinstated. A woman came to him for help after her signature had been forged by a bank officer.

"I was amazed," he says. "I thought, how can anyone come to me with a problem like this?"

He adds that he was moved that she would approach a man who had once been convicted of cheating in a case of a forged signature.

Of the future, he says: "My wife would say I'll practise until I'm dead.

"Yes, I suppose you could say I love law. I love it for two things - being able to work with people, and being able to solve problems."

Outside of work, he looks forward to the trips he makes to Batam every weekend.

Having bought a house on the seafront in 1985, he still enjoys reading and tending to his fruit garden.

"I've had a good life, a really good life, even during the dark periods.

"Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. I wouldn't wish for others to go through what I did, but to come through it was important, " he says quietly.

If he was smart, he would have done what the exNKF chairman did. Keep some files in secret so no one can "kill" you. Hence the exNKF chief got away with a mild sentence and plenty of money from a high paying job.

THE REAL RELA $15 BILLION SCAM! HERE COME NAZI MALAYSIA & ADOLF ROSEMAJIB!

by banglanepburmindon and boicroney madhoff, Donplaypuks® intrepid correspondents for voluntary extortion affairs

"Datuk Seri Najib Razak today issued an open warning to would-be demonstrators, saying that the paramilitary People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) was ready to defend the country from turmoil. Speaking in front of an estimated 20,000 Rela members here, the prime minister pledged his administration’s commitment to look after the interests and welfare of the corps.

“When the chips are down, RELA will be with this government to defend the country. Do not cause havoc in this country because the 2.8 million RELA members will not stand idly by and watch the country descend into chaos,” he said to a chorus of approval from the audience." Malaysian Insider 28/01/2012.

Firstly, assuming Najib has been quoted correctly, 2.8 million RELA members constitute more than 10% of the population of Malaysia!

Wow, that's an incredible statistic by any standard, is it not?

We need 2.8 million RELA members to monitor 2 million illegal immigrants, and possibly snoop on Iranian drug kingpins and their Malaysian mules, not to mention the Nigerian con artistes who have made Malaysia their lovely home away from home due to some very compliant on the spot visa issuing officers at KLIA and the Malaysian High Commission in Abuja?

I wonder, I just wonder if we employ 2.8 million police personnel in Malaysia?

Answer: After googling, it would appear that as of 2007, the police force numbered 150,000 with plans to increase it by 60,000. So, we can now safely assume that number is about 200,000 police officers vs 2.8 million RELA members. Does this make sense to anyone?

And you can bet your bottom dollar that with UMNO and Najibs' NEP preferred policy of quantity over quality, the vast majority of RELA members will be SPM Grade 3 or 4 achievers or less.

Ours is one of the few countries in the world where failure and mediocrity is repeatedly rewarded with largesse and riches financed by mugging the taxpayers continuously.

More than that, we have a combined Army, Navy and Air Force headcount of about 200,000. So, WTF is going on PM Najib? Are you, like Hitler and his "Brown Shirts', trying to create your own 2.8 million strong paramilitary army, answerable only to you and UMNO, thereby bypassing the authority of our King and the Genereral, Admirals and Wing Commanders?

Your own litle cosy Nasty Nazi Club? This is Federalism gone berserk and the Treasury being looted.

Next, let's do some simple arithmetic.

Assuming each RELA member is paid an average allowance (RELA members are not entitled to any salary) of only $300 per month, that amounts to:

a. $840,000,000 or $840 million per month, OR
b. $10,080,000,000 or about $10 BILLION per year!!!!

And Najib just gave them a 50% increase in their allowance rate from $4 per hour to $6 per hour.

This means the cost to the Malaysian Taxpayer will rise to $1.26 BILLION per month or $15.12 BILLION per year!!!! This is what will bankrupt our Economy!

I have worked on average figures. Surely there are senior RELA officers who earn more, which will push the financial burden up even further.

Where is the money coming from and really going to? Can anyone confirm if a humongous printing press contract was recently awarded to an UMNO/Najib croney?

The Government (according to our home grown Kelabit Christian Bumiputra scam artiste, Roti Jala) can't subsidise Education, Health, Welfare (but can subsidise, $10 billion per year to IPP's, Petronas bailout of Tenaga for $2 billion due to managment fuckups and inflated $ 9 billion unwanted Banting-Taiping 60-year toll highways) but somehow can find the $10-15 billion a year to empoy part-time RELA members? And Roti Jala says 10% GST is inevitable?

What a Towering Glocal world record breaking RIP OFF!

So, how and what should we read into this latest posturing from our flip-flopping/ U-turning Prime Minister?

Firstly, "When the chips are down, RELA will be with this government to defend the country. Do not cause havoc in this country because the 2.8 million RELA members will not stand idly by and watch the country descend into chaos," is a clear threat aimed at stifling opposition to the Police State that Najib is intent on creating, if it has not already been achieved.

Let's be very, very clear. RELA is not Constitutionally empowered to defend the country. That is the role of the Army. You don't engage rank baton wielding amateurs to defend us against another improbable invasion by Indonesia or Japan.

Assuming electoral reforms are not put in place before GE 13, then Bersih 3.0 is a looming reality. Of course, Bersih 3.0 organizers will apply to the police to hold their rally under the Peaceful Assembly Act and the police will respond kindly and positively and say, yes, go ahead, you can hold in Gong Badak Stadium in Terengganu in 2020, provided Perkasa and UMNO can have their opposing rallies in KLCC. So, caring, evenhanded and totally objective will our IGP be.

Either way, UMNO and Najib will lose as they did locally and internationally vis-a-vis Bersih 2.0 and the Anwar Ibrahim persecution, trial and innocent verdict. Because Najib misread the sign and tidal wave of our times and exercised pathetically poor, but predictable, discretion.

So, Najib thinks that his sabre rattling and exhortation of all these SPM Grade 3 holders will put real fear in the hearts of Malaysians? Once again he's behaving like a school playground bully, displaying the IQ and the mental equivalence of Quasimodo's hump, and being spineless about it as well.

And we ain't buying it. Not today. Worse dictators and despots have issued worse threats. We shall not be moved by the demented, craven and cowardly ravings and threats of this "economy transforming" con artiste and urban terrorist of the 3rd kind, i.e. the one we all laugh about and would piss on if he came within 5 feet of our shadows. No Prime Minister worth his salt anywhere would behave in this thuggish, unsophisticated fashion. Adat Istiadat? He hasn't a clue!

Let me issue my own warning to you:

Najib Tun Razak, unelected serially lying Prime Minister of Malaysia, WE, the citizens of Malaysia, will stand firm, and together whip your butt just as we did those fat and chubby school playground mama's boy bullies of our times!

Donplaypuks® with our money and make this a police state, man!
