He chose September 15 to announce what I have described as "milestone" changes to the law, catching many people, especially oppositionists like Desi, by the balls -- oops, I mean surprise. Coming from a PM who had been to date mainly bold in pronouncement but lame in performance, I for once gave him him the benefit of the doubt in my first post on MD -- that the PM was serious, to mark Malaysia Day, in abolishing the infamous Internal Security Act and repeal the provision requiring annual licensing for newspapers under the PPPA1984.
After a couple of days, and obviously influenced by several critics' sceptism that Najib would deliver on his promise, as well as concern that two new laws to be enacted to replace the ISA and the Emergency Ordinance, might yet give the government powers to still continue to "detain Malaysians" in the name of being terrorists or having some communist tendencies, Desi pause.
After wearing out his thinking cap for four days -- in kantonis four is pronounced as "sei" meaning also "die lah!" when followed by lol...), YL trhe journalist in me decided to play Najib's bumbers game a byte.
It has been well reported (corrrect me if Desi is wlong!) that the PM's fave number is eleven (11). And among the dates commonly predicted for GE13 is November 11, 2011, shortened as 11.11.11.
So Desi pondered -- why did Najib deliver his MD message containing the surpise changes to the oppressive laws like ISA on Sept 15, 2011? Yes, it's traditionally the eve of the BIG day, you say, that VIP messages are broadcast. But could he make it just past midnight at 1201AM?
Then I visualise the nmbers involved -- fifteen is 15, September is 9 and the year is 11. In September we all know the infamous or famous in you are a supporter of Obama, or of Al Qaeda, respectively, and this year's marked the 10th anniversary of the downing of the twin towers of the WTC. If thou knoweth knot what WTC stands for, please STOP READING NOW, Desi has no time or dime for ye!
Now back to Najib's numbers game, eve of Malaysia Day's 48th anniversary, Sept 15 when separated and added up is 5plus9 equals 14, and 1 of course is a fave number in this month -- as Astro keeps reminding me to watch all the specials on 555 History channel. Remembering September 11, BEYOND: Message from 911 and for many countries, the distress emergency number to call is also 911.
So Najib's Sept 15 announcement on the eve of 911 was deliberate, in my not so humble opinion, for I am also a numbers game player, especially 3D and 3D + 1. So Sept 15, (2011) is abbreviated by Desi as 141., the dot (.) marking this year if it is ONE, and marking next year if it was TWO (2o12), etc, etc. If you still don't C IT, you also STOP HERE2!
And so it was the PM's premier belated Ap[ril Fool's joke for this year, or could be an premature wan for next and subsequent years.
I enjoy watching the CSI series, and among the theme songs is one "Won't Be Fooled Again"!
