MCA Youth chief: People have right to know
IPOH: The people have the right to
know about the issues surrounding 1MDB and the alleged transactions
into the Prime Minister’s bank accounts, says MCA Youth chief Chong Sin
Woon.
He said the people deserved a more thorough explanation to clear the air on the allegations raised by The Wall Street Journal in its reports on 1MDB.
Chong also said the investigations should be expedited and the reports published as soon as possible.
“People are asking three things. Is there really a personal account belonging to the Prime Minister in the bank? Was there really any transaction of money into the accounts and how much was transferred? And what is the usage of the money?” he said after opening the Perak MCA Youth annual general meeting here yesterday.
“It is very important that the relevant parties and authorities
clarify these matters,” he said, adding that brief statements given by
the relevant parties earlier were not enough to clear the people’s
doubts.
“The whole matter is having a serious effect on the Government and the image of Malaysia,” he added.
Chong also said that all Barisan Nasional component parties should have equal access to information on the 1MDB controversy.
“It is also the right of Barisan parties to know the issue in detail.
“This is not an Umno issue. It’s the Government’s issue, a government that consists of Barisan component parties,” he said.
On an unrelated matter, Chong said the Government should allow the people’s creativity to develop and not stifle it.
With more laws and Acts being introduced, he said it was making life difficult for people to earn a living.
“The Government need not control everything and reduce its involvement in the people’s daily lives. It seems that everything needs to go through this or that government departments. All these difficulty (SIC: SHould be corrected to difficulties~ YL, DESi)will open up opportunities for corruption,” he said.

‘Let task force do their job’
KUALA LUMPUR: Be patient, stay
calm and allow the special task force to carry out its investigation
into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue, MCA president Datuk
Seri Liow Tiong Lai has urged the public.
He said the people should not speculate on the matter until the task force had completed its probe.
He added that the setting up of the high-level task force – comprising Bank Negara Malaysia, Attorney-General’s Chambers, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the police – was unprecedented and believed that the truth would finally be known.
“We stand by the Prime Minister to find out the truth.
“What is important is that the truth must prevail once the
investigation is completed to ensure that we are accountable to the
people,” he told a press conference after chairing the party’s
presidential council meeting here yesterday.
Liow said the Government was doing its best to ensure that the country was “run transparently and with good governance”.
“So, to speculate at this juncture is just conjecture,” he added.
On 1MDB’s criticism of The Star for what the company called “sloppy reporting” in regard to two articles the newspaper ran on Saturday, Liow said MCA had never interfered in the daily’s editorial affairs.
He said the daily would have to clarify if there was any misreporting, and every paper must be responsible for the news it published.
The Wall Street Journal had claimed that US$700mil (RM2.6bil) from the 1MDB funds were banked in to Najib’s bank account.
