Integrity Needs Proper Role Models!

National Integrity Day last Saturday was so declared by the Government "as part of its efforts to promote integrity, good values and good governance among Malaysians". But the day passed by most Malaysians without a whisper, or is a whimper? You know why? I can give a few reasons:

Because many people are just getting "tired of being tired" of all sorts of proclamations, but they don't see any action.

mGf from NZ doing her dentistry course on parents' blood, sweat and tears, wrote a comment which Desi feels is apt and hit the bull's eye of the heart of the matter.

I quote Sabrina Tan:

"i have never seen any national newspaper that will have news that title: " Incorporate integrity into everyday life" or "Graduates must have good attitude" in their newspaper headlines. makes me think that the government is like a big mama urging her child to grow up.

"i shall shake my head once again..
kyels: there shall never be too many doctors. it's just that these doctors don't want to work in the appropriate areas. there is a constant shortage of doctors worldwide, so there more the better. however these docs would rather work in urban areas than in the rural ones.
and yea, even here at Otago we have the MARA sponsored medic students frm the 'deserving' gp. and in the end? they ended getting married here and run back home to Msia."

Datuk Dr Sulaiman Mahbob, president of the Malaysian Institute of Integrity, said in a realted statement that various activities are being planned this month with ministries, state governments and the private sector to create an awareness of the dangers of corruption and all forms of malpractices which are inconsistent with good values and integrity.

BUT DESIDERATA is of the humble opinion that we already have enough of officials posturing to us year-in year-out about the SCOURGE OF CORRUPTION.What has been the scourge faced by the people is a distinct lack of good role models -- the kind like our Prime Minister who WALK THE TALK? I have previously written that when certain of our "leaders" were to come on air on TV, I would press the remote control to travel to Timbuktwo channle. At least over there I get an education!

Or more productive, I go to PEE or PE, or whatever, than to listen to more posturing... from wat? -- young&articulate johnleemk says -- NINCOMPOOPS, and he's JUST 14-15 years old.......

We just need to see some concrete action plans to reduce corruption and its related facets -- slow and long-winding government bureaucracy, minor officials behavcing like big guns bullying the small men in the street; local authorities implementing "beautification" projects that eat up the budeget but nom action to constant complaints of clogged drains, potholes and denggi-mosquio breeding grounds....

Awards of contracts and scholarships going to those less-in-need, even to those rich-and-connected over those truly desrerving and job-professionals -- hence the tax=payers see his money going down the drain, year after year.

No wonder the First National Integrity Day passed us by without ...what?
Maybe next they would be having a social activist drining Mercedes Benz who fights for so many social causes from the cool comfort of the Board Room --- wonder why the media keep on quoting the same old tired VOICES OF INTEGRITY?

Brudder Imran, don't you weep at the BF table when this news stares at to start the day?
It spoilt my CON BF at Men Kee:

From the frontpage of NEW SUNDAY TIMES November 6, 2005 (Bravo! for a news scoop, the SundayStar never had a word...)

SHOCKING
RM100million down the drain

It's a tale of money down the drain. Malaysian students, on public
scholarships who studied in Ireland at a cost of between RM60million
and RM100million to become doctors, have turned their
backs on the country.

SHOCKING
'They have also become a bad
influence on otrher Malaysians
pursuing medical degress overseas'

DESIDERATA: You people have had almost one long week of holidays, so don't be lazy I.Cowws, you need to work JUST a li'l to trim thy waistline ( applies to male and femaile lembu too, so they won't be led to the slaughter any sooner!): Go get a back copy of NST and read the details on page 3 (maybe your neighbour will part with it at 60sen -- half-priced for a 24-hour product, what a bar-gain!)

My comment is that if you owed money to the bank like a loan for car-purchase or house-buy, and you fell back by THREE INSTALMENT PAYMENTS, you would have been sent a LAWYER'S LETTER. The question is: What the .... have these officers oversighting the scholarships been doing all theses years? Ah, they mayhaps forgot to engage a lawyer! No wonder lawyers were complaining during a certain era they found great difficulty in landing! Or was it 'lending'?

All the fanfare.....this is a country that is so fond of launching programmes the big bang way. However, the maintenance culture is hardly visible.

Any government driven project tends to garner attention and nothing else. After awhile, all the enthusiasm will fizzle out. Integrity is just not the culture for the big shots

No action, noise only

I ignore most programmes associated with the government. They never achieve anything. The way I see it, most members of the government just do something now and then to keep Malaysia's life support machine plugged in, and go back to plundering Malaysia's blood and sweat. Then when Malaysia finally dies, they flee for greener pastures a la Marcos. Call me pessimistic, but look at our civil service. Look at our Parliament. Look at our ministers. 99.9% of all "public servants" are in it for their own gain.

My calculator says minus 99.99-20-lah, that's why we're still holding at the seams...

MALAYSIA BOLEH TALK C*CK ONLY!!!

It has always been empty promises... Sounds so hollow and empty...

I guess they should start walking their talk rather than talk the talk... Things will not improve if it still carries on this way. No way I'd say.

I do agree with Elegant Lily - integrity are not for big shots.

And yes I do agree with John Lee as well. Their programmes hardly achieve anything. Take the cancer research for example.. It was quite a heated topic two weeks ago but now? *squinting for the news in the paper*

There is nothing but corruption, they just want benefits for themselves - shameless creatures. Malaysia will never achieve anything if this goes on.

Sigh.
