SCORPENE BRIEFING: French lawyers should also be told of Anwar's activities, says Puad
PUTRAJAYA: PRESSURE is mounting on opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to include other people in the proposed parliamentary briefing on the Scorpene submarine purchase.
Umno supreme council member Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi in supporting the call for Anwar to include his wife and former close associate senator Datuk S. Nallakaruppan in the meeting, also suggested Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah to be included.
"Not only Nallakaruppan, I also urge Anwar to let the lawyers meet Shazryl so they can be told how Anwar had used them to divert the spotlight from his immoral activities.
"Anwar should also reveal the source of funding to bring the lawyers into the country.
"Is it being being funded by George Soros through Suaram?" he asked at a press conference here yesterday.
Barisan Nasional Wanita chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil yesterday challenged Anwar to let Nallakaruppan meet lawyers William Bourdon and Joseph Breham so that the duo, who represent Suaram, can be told of Anwar's other "part-time activities".
Shahrizat also urged Anwar's wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Shamsidar Taharin (wife of Parti Keadilan Rakyat deputy president Azmin Ali) to sit in on the discussion.
Earlier this month, the opposition leader had invited Bourdon and Breham to Malaysia next month to explain alleged discrepancies in the Scorpene submarines purchase by the federal government in 2002.
Puad said the Scorpene issue was never tried in any French court but Anwar kept telling the lies to the public to divert attention from his moral problems.
"The strength of Pakatan Rakyat, especially Anwar, lies in telling lies. I have known him for a long time.
"The people should realise that this is only Anwar's desperate 'game'," he said.
He said the Scorpene purchase was only probed by two French "investigating judges" and had never gone for trial as claimed by the PKR de facto leader.
Puad, who is also Batu Pahat member of parliament, added there was no need to bring the lawyers to Parliament as the issue had been repeatedly addressed.
