Remember that song with melodic "But Ginny comes lately..."? Oh, if thou art Too Young to know what love entails, you won't. Badder ala-HeyJude you stay forever young (and innocent).
I hardly remember me having made any new year resolutions before 2009. I have had my DESIDERATA by Max Ehrmann as my living's guidepost.
Today I remember one I term as myGOoDfriend for an advice given in good faith, and I'm adopting it as first, last and aweways NU'E YEAR RESOLUTION because changed circumstances and momntous encounters have caused me a dawning realisation that there's wisdom in mGf's addedwisdom.
So here/hear goeth/cometh the MISS'D RESOLUTION:
I pledge that another guiding light, besides that Desiderata of Happiness, is that first, last and aweways
"DESIDERATA will be the most kindest person, to himeself first, last and always. Sometimes, I was told, placing yourself first is also kindness. One must be kind and fair to himself first," so this is my Resolution for 2009 and beyond till YL's sext, last and awesome breath:
ala-Shakespearean famous/infamous quote in describing the fatal stab in Julius Caesar's chest by his trusted friend Brutus on the Ides of March at The Capitol eon years ago, that "most unkindest cut of all...". Caesar gave up the will to live because "betrayal by one's best friend" is indeed the vilest poison on sometimes cruel mother earth. And the most consequential saddest dying sound that ever reverberated in history throughtout the www was/is/will be the most shortest two-word, or was it three? ****"Et tu, Brute!"
****I will elaborat on this wan. In a recent conversation wit' another potential mGf Jacq, Desi wasn't sure if the quote was 100% right as I am mostly a left-ist. Should that be Brutus for Brute? Should that be a question mark for the exclamation. So few words. Yet so vexatious. Murderous too.
Meanw'ile, sharing again:
DESIDERATA
-- written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s --
Not "Found in Old St. Paul's Church"! -- see below
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
PS: A Brief,added on Jan 2, 2009 because Desi has got toomush time, knot dime, on his hands! -- and it's knot for under-wearing,(the brief I mean, what else?) it's for thy hearing -- from page 9 theSun, Jan 2, 2009:
New year's
resolutions can
be bad for you
LONDON: Making self-improve-
ment New Year's resolutions of-
ten leaves people feeling worse,
the Britsh mental health charity
Mind warned yesterday.
Mind urged people not to
make resolutions focusing on
physical imperfections -- such
as attempting to lose weight
-- because they create a negative
self image and lead to feelings of
low self-esteem, hopelessness
and even mild depression.
And when such optimistic
resolutions fail, that could spark
feelings of inadequacy and fail-
ure, the charity warned.
"New Year's resolutions
can sometimes focus on our
problems or insecurities such
as being overweight, feeling un-
happy in our jobs or feeling guilty
about not devoting enough time
to friends and family throughout
the year," said Mind chief execu-
tive Paul Farmer.
"In 2009, instead of mak-
ing a New Year's resolution,
think positively about the year
to come and what you can
achieve." -- AP
