Guest Writers at Desi's Place Are Welcome

As Desiderata sometimes runs out of own steam, especially running around in a maze yesterday tracing down Perdana Leadership Foundation Office -- with mGf Tony Yew at the helm and one zorro-unmasked and Kapt Ancient Mariner as co-pilots (Tony is jest he's steering the car's wheel, not the august PLF which is still former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's flagship...:) -- I take a break Copying&Pasting two writers' guest-rites.

So here's DIN MERICAN and another Cohort-Scribe Dr LIM TECK GHEE's thoughts to share, and Desi is happy playing Postman, gratis as NS!:), sometimes ringing more than twice. Be careful I don't deliver a royal summons.

Letter by Din Merican and Lim Teck Ghee

We are encouraged by recent statements by UMNO Vice President Tan Sri Muyhiddin Yassin and other Barisan Nasional politicians confirming that the time is right for Barisan component parties to hold closed door meetings on national unity and other sensitive issues and to arrive at consensus on dealing with contentious subjects that are dividing our nation.

We trust that this is not another election motivated response that is soon forgotten and consigned to the dust bin of political rhetoric once the elections are out of the way.

In our view, in-house Barisan Nasional meetings should not be the only channel of discussion and decision on vital matters affecting the country's future. A forum bringing together a more broadly representative and participatory group of Malaysians drawn from the various communities and containing expertise from different sectors of the economy and society ¡V not just from politics - would be an inclusive way to deliberate on our future direction.

We had earlier called for the establishment of a new National Consultative Council comprising the best independent minds in the country to formulate a new road map for the country. Let us rise above politics as usual and provide the opportunity for this group to engage in non-partisan fact finding and analysis on the full range of national policies - on education, the NEP and Bumiputra rights, corruption and cronyism, equity ownership, composition of the civil service, military and police, etc.-- that have generated so much passion, serious disagreement and tension.

Let us put an end to top down planning and paternalistic approaches and take that step in democratic consultation and planning that can generate bold and innovative solutions to our problems in the interest of national unity. Malaysians deserve to participate fully in seeking a new national consensus and determine with their leaders the way forward.

It took Europe and US 200+ years to infuse democracy inside their culture.

And Malaysia only start the baby step since the blogger world take shape. I notice Malaysian has a huge obstacle to overcome in order to join the rank of 1st world. And this obstacle is rarely mentioned, no party are keen to fix it.

You put the perspective rite -- 50 cf to EU's and USA's 200+, we are kindergarten while they are at Uni.

Still, we need to keep both our eyes open (Not one eye closed, or worse, sleeping on the job!:(
