SOSMA Is Being Used as HARASSMENT TOOL -- Watch Out!

Oppositiion parties, NGOs are their first targets -- maybe BN-UMNO are finding that civil rights movements epitomised by Bersih1 and Bersih2 are becoming TOO STRONG for their liking!

I had also noted n one of my MADNESS COLLECTiBLES series about ex-DAP and ex-TI-M topgun Tunku Aziz' being used as the gun to demonise the NGPOs' civil society roler. EX-PKR and ex-DAP running dogs like the pseudo-intellectual  notorous for their JUST= drCM and ex-TI-M self-claimed greatness now given LOTS OF TV3 airtime -- more than slotted for BN miniSTERS! OK, thinking aloud, how much "for a few dollars more" do they get ah? ~~ YL, Desi, knottyaSsusual

Cops haul up electoral reform activist for questioning

VIDEO | 2.54 min
Electoral reform activist PY Wong was questioned by police today for an alleged offence related to his group Tindak Malaysia's activities to train party workers to be polling, counting and barong agents (Pacaba) during the general election.

The NGO founder was questioned for over two hours at federal police HQ Bukit Aman from 9am.

He is being probed under Section 124(c) of the Penal Code for involvement in activities that disrupt parliamentary democracy or preparations for such.

He was accompanied by lawyers Farhana Halim and New Sin Yew.

NONEIt was reported in the media today that the probe is related to Tindak Malaysia’s workshops educating the voters on how to ensure secrecy of their ballot.

According to the NGO, voters at polling stations should demand a random ballot slip instead of the serialised one normally handed to them by the officer in charge.

Wong was quoted as expressing surprise that educating voters on their legal rights was an offence.

When met after Wong's questioning was over at 11.30am, New said that he found police investigations into his client's Pacaba training as "baffling".

"It is as if (they are) saying that voter education is detrimental to parliamentary democracy."

He believes that it fits a pattern of harassment by authorities as some of the questions asked to his client are similar to the ones that human rights NGO Suaram had been subjected to - including several questions into their funding.

He related that the investigations on Wong under Section 124 was based on a police report lodged in Changkat Jering on April 3, although they were not given details on who had lodged it, nor given any specifics on the matter.

Wong himself expressed disappointment with the way that the authorities are dealing with Tindak Malaysia.

'Disagree through discussions'

He said that they have engaged with the EC and the parliamentary select committee (PSC) on electoral reforms about the Pacaba trainings.

He added that if they wanted to disagree with him, they could have done so through discussions and not by harassing Tindak Malaysia in this way.

NONEA small group of supporters from Suaram and Tindak Malaysia had also turned up to show their support of Wong, mounting an impromptu protest outside Bukit Aman.

The police were watchful during the protest, but did not interfere.

Meanwhile, Suaram has condemned the investigations being done by the police, and are questioning the government’s motive in doing so.

They reminded that the police had asserted last week that the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) would not be abused in the 13th general election.

The human rights group also quoted New as saying that more individuals have apparently been probed in relation to the coming election, although their identities cannot be verified.

“This is seen as police intimidation towards electoral reform activists,” said the NGO in a statement today.

NONESuaram added that using Sosma against activists did not make sense, especially considering that PY Wong is just an activist who organises activities to educate the public on the upcoming general election.

“If the police fail to explain the motive behind their probe, then it confirms the public’s fears that Sosma will be abused during the general election,” it said.

According to Suaram, Section 124(c) has been amended to be read in conjunction with Sosma. Therefore, this changes the definition in the Penal Code to say that anyone who carries out activities that threaten parliamentary democracy or makes any preparations to such an end, is liable for punishment.

Meanwhile at a separate press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan has decried Wong’s questioning as a plot to undermine civil society groups - such as Tindak Malaysia and Bersih - ahead of the upcoming election.

'Wong's probe is a plot'

“The whole basis (of Wong’s questioning) is on the issue of randomising (ballot papers). Why did I say it is a plot? It all started with (former DAP national vice-chairperson) Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim raising it, TV3 giving it extensive coverage, and everyone going on and on about how this is going to cause chaos at the elections.

NONE“This is a build-up, in my view, for a final attack on Tindak Malaysia and Bersih,” she said.

Bersih steering committee member Maria Chin Abdullah (left in photo) added that an email has also been fraudulently circulated in her name, advocating for the randomisation of ballots, and that she will be lodging a police report over the matter.

Ambiga clarified that Bersih had never urged voters to randomise their votes.

Previously, she said, Tindak Malaysia had trained voters to ask clerks at polling centres to tear off a handful of ballots and allow the voters to pick one, hence ensuring that the ballot paper’s serial number could not be traced to individual voters.

However, Bersih raised objections against this as it would leave “loose ballots hanging around”, Tindak Malaysia has agreed to stop providing training on randomisation since October last year.

NONE“Yet they are using this (issue) and they are bluffing. In this email (in Maria Chin’s name), you can see how far this plot goes.

“They are bluffing, they are making up stories, they are creating a situation of confusion so that action can be taken against Bersih as well as Tindak Malaysia,” she stressed.

Ambiga and Bersih steering committee member Andrew Khoo (right), both lawyers, also pointed out that it is not illegal to advocate for randomisation.

“The charge under Section 124(c) is for undermining parliamentary democracy by violent or unconstitutional means. Nobody is talking about violence or suggesting anything about violence.

“Even if we were to agree to randomisation - and I want to make it clear that we are not - is that unconstitutional? The answer is, ‘No’,” Khoo said.

The TRUTH Will Be Out -- GOoD Will Triumph Over Bad!

As told in stories from long, long ago, Good always TRIUMPHS over evil. The Truth Will Finally Prevail. Anwar 'clone' in sex video held in Bukit Kayu Hitam

PKR has failed to produce a man who is said to resemble its adviser, Anwar Ibrahim in a sex video, much to the chagrin of about 5,000 opposition supporters in Bukit Mertajam last night.

PKR candidate for the Sungai Acheh state seat Badrul Hisham Shahrin or Chegubard said an effort to produce the man as promised was in vain for he was arrested by the authorities in Bukit Kayu Hitam.

“I got a call at 6 o’clock today from Pakatan executive secretary Ahmad Shabrini Mohamed Sidek who told me that an entourage along with the individual concerned was detained in Bukit Kayu Hitam and this denies Anwar’s involvement in the sex video.

“We are getting closer to knowing where the location of the video recording is, apart from investigations confirming the existence of a man who resembles Anwar,” Badrul Hisham told the crowd after a hajat (wish) prayer at Madrasah An Nadhoh, Kampung Petani, Kubang Semang last night.

Badrul Hisham, who is also Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia chief coordinator, also played the recording of a telephone conversation between Ahmad Shabrini and him, which was also joined by Anwar, to the audience.

The sex video was screened to the media by Datuk T Trio on March 21, 2011 at Carcosa Seri Negara.

Anwar had denied that he was the man in the video and made a report at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters the following day.

My Sunday(24ahead, cun?) Rumination on MUSA HITAM -- borrowing Ali Kadir's perspective

From The Malaysian Insider, which I truly enjoy as an Online newspaper -- its wrters, especially Columnists like Ali Kadir, provide handsome insights from the Sidelines, which means they are more objective than partisan scribes including Desi-lah!

SIDE VIEWS

Musa Hitam is one of them — Ali Kadir

APRIL 20, 2013
APRIL 20 — Despite the occasional speeches spliced with some liberal phrases, Musa Hitam is an Umno man, someone who is part of the political party which has pillaged this country and created the poisonous environment which pits Malaysians against Malaysians.
The former deputy prime minister was reported by Bernama as voicing his concern that the greater freedom enjoyed by Malaysians since 2008 is being threatened by the tone of campaigning and no-holds-barred nature.
“All arguments are simply put in black and white... very, very, very black and white as I had never seen before,” he said.
Perhaps someone schooled in the Umno system of shadow play prefers gray but I prefer black or white, calling it like it is. Instead of money politics, just say corruption. Instead of direct cash aid, just say bribery. Instead of leakages in the system, just say outright theft. Instead of privatisation, just say cronyism.
If the tone or nature of these elections has gone up, it is because this is a very important contest which will decide the future of the country. Either we carry on the Umno way of closing an eye to the theft by the rich and connected or we shake up the system before historians remember Malaysia as a country once blessed with natural resources and wealth.
I notice that some opposition politicians are enamoured with what Musa says. Let us clear up all the fudge. The man loves the trappings of being a former DPM, a former chairman of this and that. Flying around in private jets and living in the lap of luxury.
Bernama quoted him as saying that credit should be given to Umno and BN, which was headed by Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, for “opening up” the democratic space. As usual, this is a self-serving statement by an Umno man.
Abdullah opened up the space because he knew that if he offered up the same autocratic rubbish of the Mahathir era, he would have been sent packing by the voters. So he had to something different. We the voters swallowed that ruse hook, line and sinker.
He was bashed by the voters in 2008 because we caught on to the wayang. That so-called democratic space has been closed significantly by the Najib government. The mainstream newspapers print lies, hardly give any space to the opposition and TV3 and RTM would make even state-run TV in China and Russia blush.
So, please Musa. Save your self-serving stuff for the Umno assembly. You are no different from the likes of Daim, Mahathir, Abdullah and other Umno veterans being trotted out to save the tottering regime.

Taktik halang DAP guna logo sendiri makan diri - Anwar

Aedi Asri

"Mereka (Umno BN) ingat rakyat belum bersedia, fikir orang Melayu susah hendak pangkah DAP. Tapi, saya yakin ia membantu kita, malah untungkan Pakatan kerana lonjakkan sokongan.

Hindraf chief sells out -- for how many dollars more?

In the GE13, Malaysians in general are looking forward to the first-ever battle between TWO COALITIONS -- the incumbent Barisan Nasional led by UMNO comprising some 14 (?) component parties, and the emergent Pakatan Rakyat comprising Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PAS and DAP in a formal TRIPARTITE PACT, except they are copting the PSM in a few seats on the Peninsula and another few opposition parties in Sabah. We must stay focused that this is the right direction to move towards a maturing democacy -- having a TWO-PARTY SYSTEM. IOIf Party A is elected in GE13 and performs, it would be returned cometh GE14 after five years. If Party A fails to deliver, then it would be removed by the RAKYAT/VOTERS in the next General Elections, and the alternative Party B be given the mandate to govern. This trend would trulu ensure an improving maturing democratic Parlaiment whthey the Wakil Rakyat tru;y answer to the Rakay. Yes, People's Power is the sole determinant of who gets to form the ruling government

The leading non-government organisation (NGO) from some five years ago saw a few leaders detained under the then Internal Security Actl after release everyuone of the leaders either formed his own party or NGO. Slowly and surely each one paid respect by seeing UM
The head honcho of the Hindu Rights Action Force -- what's his name ah? -- recently returned from hiding in the UK, put on a grandshow befitting Bollywood standards by going on a hunger strike but in weakened -- or is it dying? -- state on the 18th day he was "helped" by key comrades to meet the UMNO emperor at Putrajaya. TODAY they proudly signed an important document because of impending polls on May 5 to "flag off a new era" of Indians' rights -- same old formula of RIGHTS BASED ON ETHNICITY! -- after 55 years of NEGLECT.

I wonder who gave the mandate to this coward who had been hiding in the UK and only a recent few-months' old returnee? The CONcerned parties should respond on the coward's latest move!

I pity the constituency that he claims he reprresents!

Jangan ingat wanita tiada perasaan - Kamilia Ibrahim

7 Jamadil Akhir 1434 H. [MOD] -

GE-13: Who is really behind the UMNO’s Pasir Mas Charade?

UMNO’s eleventh hour decision to pull out of the Pasir Mas race has dealt another blow to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s 1Malaysia slogan. By doing so, UMNO has paved the way for PERKASA President Ibrahim Ali to defend his seat in a straight fight with Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, the son of PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

4 ex-DAP members to contest as Independents in NS
SEREMBAN - Four former DAP members, including Seremban parliamentary seat incumbent John Fernandez, today announced they are contesting as independent candidates in the 13th general election (GE13) on May 5.
Fernandez said he would defend his Seremban parliamentary seat which he won in the last general election after defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Yu Chok Tow with a 3,948-vote majority.
"I will contest in the Seremban parliamentary seat where I have been serving in the last five years and I am also announcing my resignation from DAP effective yesterday," he told reporters in a media conference at a restaurant here.
He said three former DAP members who announced quitting the party recently would be contesting state seats.
They are former Taman Bukit Emas DAP branch chairman S. Vijayan, who will stand in Bukit Kepayang, former Nilai Perdana DAP branch vice-chairman S. Rajasheger (Nilai) and ex-Rantau DAP member R. Sasikumar (Temiang).
Fernandez said the action to quit the party and contest as independent candidates was taken as DAP was no longer a multi-racial party and was marginalising the Indian community as Indian leaders in the party were not named as GE13 candidates.
He said it was also to give DAP a run for its money in its stronghold in Seremban and he hoped voters would choose the right leaders.
The Seremban parliamentary constituency has six state seats in which the DAP won three -- Nilai, Lobak and Temiang -- while PKR won two (Sikamat and Ampangan), and BN only held Lenggeng.
Accompanying Fernandez and his partners contesting as independent candidates are two more independent candidates, lawyer S. Karthigesan, standing in the Senawang state constituency and businessman S. Daniel, in Port Dickson. All of them today took and filled their candidate forms for 13GE.

Muhyiddin: Anwar lacks charisma

TUARAN (April 18, 2013): Sabahans have been urged to reject the opposition because its leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim lacks charisma to lead the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Anwar lied when he claimed that the opposition would takeover states under Barisan Nasional (BN) rule including Sabah.
He described Anwar as a big liar for saying he could attract BN members of parliament to support him and form the government on Sept 16, 2008.
"Anwar likes to boast about changing the government and came to Tuaran to deceive Sabahans. He only wants to become the Prime Minister in Putrajaya," he said at a meet-the-people session here last night
