Rid the Country of the Traitors
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++NOW, from zaid.my:
Save Anwar please
I read somewhere that, soon, there will be another Bersih rally — this time on 1MDB and whatever else that ails the country.I am taking this opportunity to urge Bersih to go ahead and do a big rally but not on 1MDB. The issue cannot and will not get enough traction in Malaysia even if the rest of the world thinks otherwise.
We have a high level tolerance for corruption — especially after we became more religious and introduced the Shariah Compliance Index — and we will never be able to produce four credible (male) Muslim witnesses to any of the alleged 1MDB wrongdoings.
Corruption is no longer the shocking experience that one would have expected it to be in modern Malaysia. Unfortunately, today we are guided by a different moral compass.
I can think of only one issue that can still ignite support, which is to free Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from jail. This is a good test of popular support and, also, Anwar has suffered enough.
It’s time for us to try and see if our moral compass is really upside-down or if there is still some hope left.
Anyone with a little bit of sympathy must feel the suffering endured by Anwar and will want to do something to set him free.
If we cannot bring a million Malaysians to the streets to peacefully demand Anwar’s release, then we can forget about changing anything in our country because it will just show that Malaysians don’t have what it takes to bring about change for a good and responsible government. It will show us to be just a big selfish lot.
It’s also a test for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Will they — and can they —mobilise enough support to help free Anwar? This is important as a way of testing their own commitment to reform and to rectify past errors.
How can we save Malaysia if we continue to ignore the suffering of Anwar Ibrahim? How can we talk of “compromise” and “consensus” and fight for the general election together if we are not able to do a simple act of kindness for the undisputed leader of reform who is languishing in jail?
It is time for Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin to endear themselves to the people on issues that concern the general public and not just matters relating to Datuk Seri Najib Razak and UMNO.
Also, a Bersih rally to Free Anwar will test the commitment of PAS and Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to the opposition front. Since they have always supported Anwar in the past, and since Anwar’s trial did not have four male witnesses who saw the act being committed, they should have no problem joining the Bersih event.
But if they continue to make excuses and hold themselves aloof, then it’d time the opposition had a reality check and made a decision once and for all to treat PAS as part of the BN Master Plan.
I hope Maria Chin and company will read this blog post of mine and give it some serious thought.
DESIDERATA: I have had differences of opinion with TWO leaders now active in the Opposition front, especially with the launch of the People's Declaration and "SAVE MALAYSIA" Campaign. They were/are former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad , former BN Minsiter (in charge of Law) Zaid OIbrahim.
But as is well propounded in Political Precepts, There are no permanent foes or friends in politics; only permanent interests.
So I agree totally with what the two ex-UMNO stalwarts are now engaged in, DEFEAT UMNO and their cronies and sycophants, and thus "Save Malaysia" from going over the ABYSS.
I reemphasise that an essential part of reaching the Opposition coalition's objective of replacing the UMNO-led Barisan Nasional, we must also concentrate on "freeing Anwar Ibrahim" imprisoned on trumped up charges.
I highlight the two statements by ZaiD:---
