***Rapist seen on CCTV stalking stewardess
17 Jun 2006
PETALING JAYA: The rapist who abducted a stewardess from a shopping centre’s basement car park in Damansara on Tuesday was captured on close-circuit television camera stalking the victim before pouncing on her.
He was seen hiding behind a pillar where the stewardess parked her car and waited for five minutes until the 24-year-old victim returned.
Footages then showed the suspect pushing the woman into the car and taking over the wheel. They were in the car for about 10 minutes before they left the car park, with the rapist driving.
The rapist drove around the car park for several minutes searching for an un-manned exit. Finding one, he drove through, shielding his face with a baseball cap from a CCTV at the exit.
The stewardess was spotted seated at the front passenger seat and her face was turned away from the rapist. Her hands were behind her back but it is not known if they were bound. (ends extract from NST)

The lust Desi heard, FA was complaining why the NST news report DID NOT mention the name of the mall (as was done with the femes case of Canny Ong at the Bangsar SC.)
I reieterate her complaint ~~ yes, mention the name so that women, ladies and Desi can take precaution, err when I go shopping for ...SU-gar.
DESIDERATA: The lust time I heard of DOMINO EFFECT, it was the fear of the Commies coming all the way down south springing from China and Big, B'd Ho Chi Min's North Vietnam in the 70s. headline: Don't blame the job!
Subhead: WORKPLACE STRESS NOT A CAUSE FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
By Anne Harding
NEW YORK -- The notion that being stressed out on the job causes high blood pressure doesn't hold up, according to a new analysis of studies involving more than 100,000 people.
"There's no doubt that in the moment stress raises blood pressure," the study's author, Dr. Samuel J. Mann of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, told Reuters Health. But there's virtually no evidence, he said, that such stress leads to chronic high blood pressure, or hypertension. "They've been trying to prove that for 40 years."
While job stress can certainly affect health in some ways, he added, blood pressure isn't one of them. "There's a robust relationship between job stress and things like tension headaches, anxiety, depression," Mann said. "If somebody is having all that and having headaches every day, can't sleep and is anxious, then that's a person who should change his job."
Mann conducted his review after the 2003 publication of a well-designed study by French researchers that found no link between job stress and hypertension.
In the current analysis, he looked at 48 studies claiming to support such an association. Many, Mann found, had serious flaws --for example, only basing the findings on diastolic pressure (the lower number in a blood pressure reading) rather than systolic pressure.
Others only found a stress-hypertension association in a small subgroup of individuals studied, and such subgroups varied from study to study. Still others looked at several variables measuring stress and found only one of them was linked, weakly, with hypertension, and played up this finding rather than the negative ones.
"After decades of research," Mann concludes in his report in Current Hypertension Reviews, "the evidence for a relationship between job stress and blood pressure is weak."
Studies have tied stress to heart disease, Mann noted, but hypertension is not likely to be the contributing link. Instead, he added, stress might boost high blood pressure risk by leading people to overeat, gain weight and abuse alcohol.
While Mann says he's not categorically denying that job stress could cause hypertension in some people, it's role is likely small. About 40 percent of hypertension is due to genetics, and another 40 percent to overweight, poor diet, salt intake and lack of exercise -- leaving about 20 percent available for other causes, he explained.
"If somebody has hypertension and they don't like their job, medically there's no reason to tell them to quit their job because it adversely affects their blood pressure."

Engaging CONversationists
I feel energised this morning to engage with my Prime Minister in conversation.
My belief system tells me I must be frank and honest, and most of all, BE SINCERE.
The headlineon page N3 of The Star on blues Monday -- and this moUrn's cloudy skies preface thunderstorm and lightning -- the kind that spells a kind of Ides of March because today might be D-DAY -- that inspires this:
What it takes to be dynamic
PM lists critical elements to achieve status
KAMPAR: Acquiring knowledge, being grounded in strong moral values and staying healthy are key elements in turning Malaysia into a dynamic nation, says Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
“It must be a combination of having knowledge, a good mind and being physically healthy when developing human capital,” the Prime Minister said at the launching of the Malaysia Mental Literacy Games 2006 at Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman here yesterday.
“What is the point of being clever if we are only good at stealing because we have the know-how to open all kinds of locks?”
Abdullah said developing human capital meant being creative, intelligent, credible, good-hearted, compassionate, sincere, having a sense of fairness and justice and staying physically strong.
“With these qualities in our people, we can be a dynamic nation.”
Abdullah noted that the people should have the mental capacity to make contributions to mankind.
“Our innovations must be appropriate to the needs of the people, nation and mankind,” he added.
As such, he said, he welcomed the approach of Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik in pioneering efforts to improve the mental capacity of the people.
The move to bring about a creative and innovative mind is in line with the national mission to develop human capital, said Abdullah.
“Human capital development is crucial because we want the people to be knowledgeable and creative so that the country can progress.”
DESIDERATA:
I applaud the Most Esteemed Prime Minister for his statements which I have HIGHLIGHTED (bolded thus)..
I don't think any right-thinking Malaysians can find any fault with those positive values captured in his pronouncements.
But there is an unease among many of my fellowmen -- I hope I read them correctly -- that what's faulty is that in the translation of intentions into policy implementation, there is a growing chasm. So much so many citizens have become cynical.
Bear with me as I extract and comment~~~
*“What is the point of being clever if we are only good at stealing because we have the know-how to open all kinds of locks?”
Indeed, Mr Prime Minister: why do we see an increase in criminal activities over tha last decade?
It's NO MORE SAFE to leave your house main door and front gate open nowadays -- unlike some 10 years past, we could do so with complete ease of mind it's secure.
My persobnal experience -- leaving the front gate and door open for just 5-10 minutes, the LapTop in the living room went for a long walk!
mGf Kyels on her way to the commuter tran station to college early at 6.30AM suffered injuries when she fought off a snatch thief on motorcycle who escaped with her (borrowed) camcorder.
And you hear such stories from almost every other household at one time or another.
(Of course, not forgetting the rapes cum murders of women, teenagers and children reported so often in our dailies...)
The good thing is that I begin to see in the courts some high-profile cases to address wrong-doings from a decade ago -- SYABAS to Pak Lah, though such actions are belatedly taken. Mention a few:
~ Tajuddin Ramli sued by MAS for millions
~~ Five charged for getting easy money (RM500million) from Rashid Hussain Bank (Yaeh, one company mentioned linked to a Eat, Drink and Be Merry politikus aiming to join the iKabinet!)
~~~ Redress on some "blatantly" guided kangaroo trials linked to an ex-DPM and his adopted brother
I'll stop here as I think you get the drift, NO?
Patience, I've a constant CONversationist coming with A-more...
**Abdullah said developing human capital meant being creative, intelligent, credible, good-hearted, compassionate, sincere, having a sense of fairness and justice and staying physically strong.
Summing up -- GOD-FEARING CITIZENS, who make use of God-given talents for the betterment of self and community.
Desi has from Day 1 of Pak Lah's prime ministership saluted him for his God-fearing ways. Mr Nice Guy -- aptly monikered, but...
How do his Cabinet members fare in this department?
My dear EsteemedReaders, you tell Desi!
I sympathise with our nation's CEO that he "inherited" a lot of baggage from the previous regime, and because of Barisan Nasional traditions, it is difficult to get rid of ancient "baggage". Garbage. No, no poor cabbage.
But Pak Lah must be forwarned that the rumblings on the ground have grown louder. He "missed" a golden opportunity in the last Cabinet reshuffle to re-jig the team. Come an opportune time, he must show his "resourcefulness and God's blessing" to be bold and go against tradition -- THROW OUT THE RUBBISH WHO ARE LIKE AN ALBATROSS AROUND THE GOVERNMENT'S NECK. If you must, dismantle the myth that the head of every BN component party must be in the Cabinet. Ex-PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad proved otherwise when then MCA President Tan Koon Swan WAS NOT MADE A CABINET MINISTER!
Another well grounded reservation by many of my fellow Malaysians is that despite their personal endeavours to serve the country, they are not accorded the similar support services to hone and foster their skills. Just a summary:
~ No scholarhsips for outstanding academic performers;
yet hundreds of students had some RM1million spent on each of them for medical studeies who broke their Government bond of service by refusing to return to serve NegaraKu;
~~ While the Government bends backwards to lure Malaysians abroad e.g. medical specialists in UK to return to serve Malaysia, home-based serving government servants are NOT duly rewarded with same incentives;
~~~ Labelling Malaysians "unpatriotic" after graduating overseas for not coming home, but does the Government recognise that they studied under FAM scholarships (FAM -- Father And Mother, how can you not know whan it was Father's Dayyesterday!?) and many graduates have to work their butts out to "repay" thousands in bank loans?
Now about THAT conversationist who I promise will give A-more, he goes by F&H moniker~~~
Desi meets him often at Jeff Ooi's Screenshots, and over the weekend this took place, folowing from his Post titled:

Who is going to change the law? The Govt?
It is a pipe dream. Malaysian political culture has not reached that level of maturity in which citizens can effect change when voters still feel secure with the same ruling parties running the country since 1957 with ISA hanging over their heads and while watching the judiciary got raped through and through.

Don't Think It's The Day The Music Died ...
SUNDAY INTER:LUDE
My contemplation today springs from a song in a gift album mGf presented me some time back, and I checked its lyrics only recently becaue I was tantalised by its liting melody, and yet it ended with the repetitive woeful, but mesmerising line~~~ the line
THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED.
But I don't see the whole relevance -- just minor bits being suggested -- about the song's title and the lyrics, and I truly appeal my ER to educate me, especially those esssentially absobed by Big Brother cunty's culture. This is a neutral statement by the way, about Big Brother lest some LoveJesusSoMuch sisters take offence and again snap at me like Jaws! If you knoweth not what I'm talking about, it's better to follow Ignorance is Bliss policy -- you don't want to be introduced to the Great White! But to curiosity cats like SheStrikes! it's related to the Minishorts-MENJ outing that was All's Well That Ends Well (Though ill winds still boweth in that den ... you ask When? then you're not Blogsworld fan.
Okay, back from Digression, which is a Blogger's privileged, much abused here! I begin at the beginning~~~
I first checked Thesaurus.com for the meaning of the root word from which music springs -- "muse".
Main Entry: muse
Part of Speech: verb

The majority of us lead a routine life. Like a placid lake. No tidal waves. Calm waters.
We hardly notice the passage of TIME. Except for landmark occasions -- like Today, Father's Day.
Maybe those who celebrate BIRTHDAYS every year -- I term them brave souls! -- observe its annual rite of passage with great confidence. It takes a great optimist, to my mind, to constantly remember such Milestones. But the majority of people (including Desi mayhaps) in the subconscious avoid marking such milestones because they all lead to the Final Milestone which I won't mention because it's taboo, and we don't want to spoil a APi Dae like Today.
But sometimes we have to ask the question:
Is this all there is to LIFE until we die?
Are we ready to meet our Maker any time?
In a Meme(I did the LUST ONE a few dies back...) I spied at a fellow Blogger's, the climax was a question:
What would be your greatest wish before you die?
DESIDERATA has a ready answer. Partly, yes, definitely influenced by TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE, I would like to gather all the Angels i have met togther at one place to celebrate the remaining hours of my life.
Who are these Angels? Do they exist?
I have answered the question before, and I reiterate: YES.
One mGf from Down Under reinforces that with "... ANGELS EXIST but sometimes, since they don't have
wings, we call them FRIENDS."
If I ever had doubt about Man proposes, God disposes,
it vanished around the Ides of March 2005 when truly,
in all sincerity, I say "Desi was touched by another Angel."
And what has Angels got to do with today's Post Title?
My short answer is that the moment a person stops believing in having Friends -- or Angels without Wings -- in his/her life, that's the arrival of the Final MilestoneThe Day The Music Died., which to Desi, is the better title than American Pie, do you agree?
Artist: Don McLean Lyrics
A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.
But february made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.
I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.
So bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock ’n roll,
Can music save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you’re in love with him
`cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.
I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died.
I started singin’,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
Now for ten years we’ve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone,
But that’s not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,
Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.
We were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
We started singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devil’s only friend.
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satan’s spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.
And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.
And they were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
They were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.

American Pie (1999)
Directed by: Paul Weitz
Written by: Adam Herz
The Comedy is about a group of buddies taking a challenge before Prom Night that they would prove their sexual prowess by "scoring with the gals" before the night is up and out.

AMERICAN PIE
Desi extracted one comment:~~~~
"If you are a person easily offended by a film dedicated primarily to the glory of teen sex, you may well view "American Pie" as yet another in a long line of cinematic harbingers of the collapse of western civilization. If, however, you remember adolescence as essentially a period of unending coitus interruptus, you may well find yourself engrossed by this amusing, though admittedly crude, series of sexual and scatalogical gags woven around a plot involving the desperate attempts of a quartet of last semester seniors to lose their virginity on the fast approaching sexual armageddon known as "prom night."
As meager compensation for the moralists among us, the film does heavily promote the use of condoms and comes up with even more creative prophylactics for those times when a partner is not available."
"American Pie" is certainly not for every taste and there are those who would argue that it serves a less than salutary purpose as a guide for already sex-obsessed teenagers. Be that as it may, the film provides a fair number of hearty chuckles for those of us who can find humor in a group of backward youngsters experiencing the frustration and desperation we have all, at one time, experienced.~~~~ (ends Comment)

Desi had writ this poem year back, reprised here so that our YoungOnes won't go around after "failing" to prove themselves by Prom Night (University Graduation upcoming for people like Theels, Sabrina, Kyels, just mentioning a few here... okay, Johnleemk, Len Choong and Len Ng for balance -- Don't ever believe it's equivalent to the day the music died.
My Muse In Thee
Please Don't Stop The Music
In your presence
Feeling the tender beating
Of the dance of Life
Doing it in our time
In our rhythm
To our rhyme
I wish it's Eternity
In a world of intimate conversation
In speechless embrace of the eyes
Please don't stop the music
Of our special symphony
Of sweet, and sometimes wordless, melody
I find my Muse in you
I hope you too in me
So we can sing love songs
happy and sad songs
Okay, sometimes a nonsense song
where we belong
But it's always a hot 2-in-ONE
of ecstasy and agony
when May comes around
I still miss the
Muse in Thee

***The Archangel Gabriel-
Once upon a time, the archangel Gabriel heard the voice of God speaking from paradise, blessing someone. Gabriel said, "Surely this is some important servant of my Lord, God the Father. He must be a great saint, or hermit, or wise man."
The archangel went down to earth looking for the man, but he could not find him, neither on earth nor in heaven. Then he addressed God and said, "Oh Lord, my God, please show me how to find the object of your love."
God answered him, "Go to this village. And there, in a little temple, you will see a fire."
The angel went down to the temple, and he found a man praying before an idol. Then he went back to God and said, "Lord, how can you look with love upon this idol worshiper?"
God said, "It is true that he does not understnad me properly. Not one man living is capable of understanding me as I am. The wisest of the whole human race are just as far from really understanding me as this man is. I look not at his mind, but at his heart. The heart of this man searches for me, and therefore he is close to me."

It's not a doggone day!:)
Desi is AP for the dogs today. Even the underdogs. Also for the top dogs. Me I'm a Pig!
Napoleon I'd aspire to be -- if you wanna know why, please go and read Politics 101 Must-C, ANIMAL FARM, which was writ by Oh George! All's Wella.
To newcomers to Desi's Place, there's a lot of DDC ahead, so if you shake your head too mush, you may land in the dog house, which is not good -- NO need too, Malaysia second only to Australia, is another Lucky Country. WE must be watchful that those Fools on the hill don't spoil the feng shui.
First off, let's say cheers to Man's Best Friend that some Greenies have tried very hard to protect your kind by giving consumers Vegetable hot dogs! So it's doggone-free days for my best freinds. Sabrina -- believed to have either gone on long Hiatus, or MIA, or LOST -- of LOTR terratry must be AP2 to read this:

The healthier hot dog

The new health wave comes
in tyhe form of soya-based

new sauces.
This makes it easier for consumers
who are on a meat-free diet to try

Many of Malaysia's sugar traders are unscrupulous --
exporting the "sweet commodity" to neighbouring countries

Desi: So Malaysians will CUT DIOWN on sugar intake for a healthier lifestyle. (Change lifestylo, remembeber that callo?) "Damn you locals!" seems to be some patriots'wanton/wandan song.

Teh kurang-kurang manis!
SHORT OF SUGAR
No end in sight
to shortage
blares The Star's frontpage haedline as I sip my Teh-C kurang-kurang manis.
But the mee goreng cum telur mata kerbau is topped up by sambal belacan which is well "sugared" to add that oomph to the rasa pedas.
So how? Left hand minus gula in Teh-C, right hand plus sugar in sambal.
I'm quoting the last paragraph of the news report only
because of ITS RELEVANCE~~~
"Meanwhile, Health Minister Datuk Chua
Soi Lek said Malaysians consumed
about TWO-AND-A-HALF TIMES more
sugar than the ideal amount of 50mg a day."
You Malaysians are so "sweet" by virtue of your sugar consumption that even a Menteri Besar has to "turun padang" to meet your needs (HOW GALLANT!). But do you think he cares about your "true needs" like maintaining a healthy lifestyle and keeping down prices of basic necessities? I dunno know man -- I suspect it's the VOTES AT THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTIONS that's the main motivating factor. I hope I'm wrong.
Better this than the shelling former BBC chairman Sgharir Samad got an earful of.
No sugary-coated words for him, the poor MP who spoke his mind and stood his stand of supporting DAP's motion in Parliament and as a result, he was punished by The BN Whip. (No, no lashes lah, just told he has to resign from BBC chair, wooden wan. Boy, behave thyself IF you wanna to continue to be an MP for Barisan, okay! If I get one more mis-report on you, your PAC chair may also give way!
Now if only Sharir can say "SEMUANYA OKAY" to the semi-valued Minister...

Socialists can be Sexy too!
OR should IT read as Tool? You, my democratic ER, decide!
As our Most Esteemed PM says, and he's no socilaist, this is a democratic country, a citizen can say anything he/she likes, and that includes an ex-PM and private citizen Desi.
mGf Howsy always swims across the English/French Channel for his haiti (I prefer this plural form to hiatuses for HIATUS, a common pastime of Bloggers:). Now I can spy some RATionale; besides Mimi and Nicole, here's another hiddden gem~~~
French
socialist a
sexy belle
LONDON: Segolene Royal, the
French Left's main presidential candidate,
has been voted the world's sixth
sexiest woamn, beating sciores of international
sex symbols including Jennifer Lopez,
Elizabeth Hurley and Penelope Cruz.
The surprise victory in a survey on the
"100 sexiest women in the world 2006"
for the men's monthly magazine FHM
out today is being hailed as a boost
to Royal's chances of winning French
presidential elections next year.
The 52-year-old mother of four was
only two places behind Angeline Jolie.
Top of the poll was Adriana Karembeu, the
French-Slovak super-model and wife of
former international French footballer
Christian Karembeu.
Royal, the girlfirend of Socialist Party
leader Francois Hollande, has taken the
French political world by storm since the
beginning of tghhe year, going from a
relative unknown to the favourite in next
year's presidential election, even garnering
more support than Nicolas Sarkozy, the
Right's frontrunner.
She can now claim to be the first politician
to have featured on FHM's annual list.
Part of Royal's success, suggested Le Parisien,
which leaked details of the poll, conducted by
the CSA polling institute, is down to a
Hillary Clinton-style overhaul she has
undergone in recent years, going from
bespectacled academic to designer-clothed,
high-heeled, glossy-haired presidential
contender. ~~ Telegraph Group Ltd, London

played in fromer closed door Commie state~~~
Rugby game
mistaken
for brawl
MOSCOW: Russians playing a
game of amateur rugby were
arrested by opolice who mistook
the match for a mass brawl, local
media reported yesterday.
"We got a call to our control
room saying there was a fight
involving a lot of people on some
waste ground just outside town,"
RIA news agency quoted a police
official in the southern city of
Rostov-on-Don as saying.
The players and supporters --
nearly 100 people -- were taken to
the local police station. They were
freed when officers realised they
had been playing rugby. -- Reuters
mGf Yan from Nashville nigh Catsville reported recently a "pretty conundrum" that only a cowgal could have gotten out of niftily.
If there is no such word, take IT from Desi IT means something akin
to "doing a Rabbit out of a amgician's glove". Mayhaps a cowboy does IT badder:)~~~
Da Cowgal of yantouch.wordpress.com relates:
"Famous Lines
Also three years ago, I was attending a TOT (get it, it is Train The Trainers, the two "Ts" have nothing to do with Tension here) session on a program called "No Apologies" teaching teens on sex, love and life. To be direct, the message of the program is "abstinence until marriage is the best and healthiest sexual decision for children, teenagers and young adults".
There was "Tension" because I could not find someone to babysit Chris (my son, who was then 7 years old). So, I decided that I brought him along. Though 7, Chris was very disciplined (He still is anyway). He did his homework while the aunties (all women, Girls' Brigade project) enjoyed some famous lines. Read on …
Boy - If you love me, you'd let me.
Girl - If you love me, you won't be asking me
Boy - Don't you want to show me that you love me?
Girl - I don't have to have sex to show you that I love you.
Boy - It's safe - I have a condom
(Interruption)
Chris - Mummy what is condom?
Oop! The facilitator looked at me, and said, "You settle it yourself."
Chris - Mummy, what is it?
The facilitator continued, ignoring Chris. Mummy was thinking …
Girl - You want me to bet my future on that piece of rubber?
Smart!
Mummy - It's a piece of rubber.
The "Tension" gone. Chris went back to his homework. Women went back to learn the famous lines.
The piece of rubber
Three years later, it was last week.
I had just secured the account of that rubber thing. I was vetting the visuals and text of the advertisements on my home PC. The creative company has been creative in the text, and waiting for an OK to go ahead.
Overlooking my shoulder to the computer screen, Rachel (15-year-old daughter who has just been drilled in the "No Apologies" program) said, "Mummy, you are buying condom?"
"No, it's advertisement, I want to make sure it is OK for publication."
Chris, now 10, said, "Condom? The rubber thing you said last time? What's that for by the way?"
He remembers. He has been wondering.
"It's used by married couples if they do not want to have baby." Mummy hopes to close the issue as soon as possible.
Tension still on …
Perhaps this would end the tension, still on "famous lines":
Boy - I thought this relationship was going somewhere.
Girl - If somewhere is Sex, then think about going somewhere else.
Boy - But we should celebrate our love.
Girl - GREAT! Pick me up at 7 with roses and we'll go out for dinner. I need to be home by 9. You can join me and my mummy and daddy to watch England Vs Paraguay in the opening …
Butt TENSION's still on, Dr Mahathir does not watch 22 craxy men chasing after one stewpid ball...
Desi Da Cowboi offers a possible alternative getaway for the Pretty Conundrum~~~~~~~~
"A Malaysian Education Minister was wondering why despite all the good work
done by the Family Planning Board, the Malay population in Kelantan semed
to leapfrog compared with other states which plodded on at average speed.
So accompanied by FPB officers, including a balanced team of male, female and mabe even in-between, the most honourable Minister checked into the first kampong household with SE7EN kids running outside with the chickens and cats and the housewife was merely 27 years old.
First the Minister interviewed the wife. She coyly said Yes, we practised family planning ("Perancangan Keluarga", proudly showing off a half dozen Condoms, fruit-flavoured, incldung guave and mangosteen. No, no durian nyet."Too smelly!" (Terlalu bau!" her exclamation.
Then separately, the ministerial team called in the husband working our in the paddy field. All smiles and sweat, Da Farmer greeted the high and low officials after washing his hands clean. His were somewhat polluted -- does NOt wish to be polluted some more, so he did not shake the visitors' proffered hands.
So you and your wife practised family planning, Yes?
Da Farmer nodded.
Please demo how you use the Condom...
Da Farmer took out a green banana -- it's solid and the closest to a penis in total erection mode. He carefully slipped the rubbery condom on the banana with a edft hand, mounted IT perfectly in a few seconds.
Well done, the Mnister said, now show us what do you do next...
Before I use IT on the wife, I would do like any good Muslim does -- I snip off the tip of the Condom like this...(Da proud Farmer cut off with a pair of scissors the protruding tip just as in circimsising a 12-year-old's penis ...
"Seperti Bersunat ini," he coyly smiled.
My deerest ER, please share with Yan (okay, Desi as well) your best answer to this Pretty Conundrum when your seven-year-old asks; Mummy, Daddy ~~ What's a Condom?
Yes, da prize: The most hilarious answer gets a one leap year supply of free Durex, and in case it falls within that 0.1% of failure (ass in any poll, there's a certain margin of ellor!), one 'hole year of free Dumex...
As our Most Esteemed PM says, and he's no socilaist, this is a democratic country, a citizen can say anything he/she likes, and that includes an ex-PM and private citizen Desi.

The marauders creep upon li'l Napoleons...
While Little Napoleons are fighting within their litle kingdoms, they don't see the marauders from afar now nearing the gates of their thrones.
While chickens, mice and little men fight in the Malaysian arenas showing off their kampong, village-style silat or kick boxing, the foreign devils are almost at the gates with their modern sabres of laser guns and nanotech weapons. Homegrown heroes who have not stepped beyong the proverbial coconut shells will wake up one day to see their 20th century weaponry and 15th century Malacca heyday mindsets have become obsolete against 21st century -- third millennium crept upon us six/seven years ago, remember? -- marauders.

Modern-day Goths and Vandals threaten the West via cheap flights and the net
A defence guru says that between 2012 and 2018 the power structure of the world is likely to crumble, writes Peter Almond
----------------from THE AUSTRALIAN------------
12 June 2006
ONE of Britain's most senior military strategists has warned that Western civilisation faces a threat on a par with the barbarian invasions that destroyed the Roman empire.
In an apocalyptic vision of security dangers, Rear Admiral Chris Parry said future migrations would be comparable to the Goths and Vandals, while North African pirates could be attacking yachts and beaches in the Mediterranean within 10 years. Europe could be undermined by growing immigrant communities with little allegiance to host countries -- a "reverse colonisation" as Parry described it.
These groups would remain closely connected to their homelands via the Internet and cheap flights. The idea of assimilation was becoming redundant, he said.
The bleak warnings by Parry were delivered to senior officers and industry experts at a conference last week. Parry, head of the development, concepts and doctrine centre at Britain's Ministry of Defence, is charged with identifying challenges that will frame future national security policy.
If a security breakdown occurred, he said, it was likely to be brought on by environmental destruction and a population explosion, coupled with modern technology and radical Islam. The result for Britain and Europe, Parry warned, could be "like the 5th-century Roman empire facing the Goths and the Vandals".
He pointed to the wave of mass migration that disaster in the Third World could unleash. "The diaspora issue is one of my biggest current concerns," he said.
"Globalisation makes assimilation seem redundant and old-fashioned ... (the process) acts as a sort of reverse colonisation, where groups of people are self-contained, going back and forth between their countries, exploiting sophisticated networks and using instant communication on phones and the Internet."
The direct effects of Third World instability would soon lick at the edges of the Western world as pirate gangs mounted smash-and-grab raids on holidaymakers. "At some time in the next 10 years it may not be safe to sail a yacht between Gibraltar and Malta," he said.
Parry, an Oxford graduate who was mentioned in dispatches in the Falklands War, said not all the threats he identified would come to fruition. He warned, however, of what was likely to happen, based on trends, if the dangers were not addressed by politicians.
The 52-year-old -- who used the slogan "old dog, new tricks" when he commanded the assault ship HMS Fearless -- said Western countries would have little use for large-scale, low-technology forces in responding to the new threats. He foresees wholesale moves towards robots, drones, nanotechnology, lasers, microwave weapons, space-based systems and even "customised" nuclear and neutron bombs.
Lord Boyce, the former chief of the defence staff, welcomed Parry's analysis.
"Bringing it together in this way shows that we have some very serious challenges ahead," he said. "The real problem is getting them taken seriously at the top of the government."
Parry presented his vision of world security over the next 30 years at the Royal United Services Institute in central London.
He identified the most dangerous flashpoints by overlaying maps showing the regions most threatened by factors such as agricultural decline, booming youth populations, water shortages, rising sea levels and radical Islam.
After combining these elements, he predicted that as flood or starvation struck, the most dangerous zones would be Africa, particularly the northern half; most of the Middle East and central Asia as far as northern China; a strip from Nepal to Indonesia; and perhaps eastern China.
He pinpointed 2012 to 2018 as the time when the power structure of the world, much of which dates from World War II, was likely to crumble. Rising nations such as China, India, Brazil and Iran would start to challenge the US as the only superpower.
This would come as "irregular activity" such as terrorism, organised crime and "white companies" of mercenaries burgeons in lawless areas at the expense of conventional forces.
The effects would be magnified as borders become more porous and some of the most vulnerable areas sink beyond effective government control. Criminals and guerillas may then spread the danger beyond these areas.
Much of Parry's analysis is based on forecasts and statistics drawn up by universities and international organisations.
The world population is expected to grow to about 8.4billion in 2035, compared with 6.4billion today. By then, about 68per cent of the population will be urban, with some of the biggest metropolises, particularly in poorer countries, becoming in effect ungovernable. Mexico City could be an early example of this, he warned.
To control population growth, some countries may be tempted to copy China's "one child" policy. This, with the widespread preference for male children, could lead to a ratio of boys to girls of up to 150 to 100 in some countries. This would produce dangerous surpluses of young men with few economic prospects and no female company.
"When you combine the lower prospects for communal life with macho youth and economic deprivation you tend to get trouble, typified by gangs and organised criminal activity," said Parry. "When one thinks of 20,000 so-called jihadists currently fly-papered in Iraq, one shudders to think where they might go next. Will they look further afield for employment?"
The bloodiest result of the competition for resources, Parry argued, may be a return to "industrial warfare" as countries with large, growing male populations mobilise armies, even including cavalry, while acquiring computerised warfare technology from the West.
The mass population movements set in train by these disasters, Parry argued, could lead to the "Rome scenario".
The western Roman empire collapsed in the 4th and 5th centuries under repeated blows from groups such as Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Suevi, Huns and Vandals surging over its borders. The process culminated in the sacking of Rome in 455 by Genseric the Lame, king of the Alans and Vandals, in an invasion from north Africa.
Parry said he was not labelling any particular group as threatening stability, but estimated at the conference that more than 70 diaspora groups were in Britain.
A report last week by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development warned that to integrate immigrants was becoming increasingly difficult. It also found that Britain had become Europe's leading destination for immigrants, taking 494,000 people in 2004.
Large numbers of African migrants are already trying to reach Europe. The EU has warned that up to 80,000 West Africans are poised to migrate illegally to Europe. In the future, large groups that become established in Britain and Europe may develop "communities of interest" with unstable or anti-Western regions, in effect creating a state within a state, Parry said.
Any technological advantage developed by the West to deal with the future threats was unlikely to last long, he warned.
"I don't think we can win in cyberspace; it's like the weather, but we need to have a raincoat and an umbrella to deal with the effects," he said.
With the West's military advantage reduced, most solutions to the threats Parry identified will have to be political.
Some of the direst consequences of Parry's warnings would be beyond human imagination to tackle.
The examples he gave, tongue-in-cheek, include: "No wind on land and sea; third of population dies instantly; perpetual darkness; sores; Euphrates dries up 'to clear way for kings from the east'; earth's core opens".

Ani: TNB got a raw deal
WHEN the Government decided to approve the request from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to raise electricity tariffs, the plight of the national utility took centre-stage. Naturally, the knee-jerk reaction among consumers was not favourable. The 12% rise in tariffs appears to have re-ignited the debate on how good the going is for independent power producers (IPPs) at the cost of the national utility’s cashflow. The imbalance between the generation side of the business and that of transmission and distribution has put a strain on TNB. To understand the privatisation of the power generation sector, one needs to take a look back in history to understand that the country's IPPs came about as a result of the Government's effort to address the issue of stable power supply after the landmark 1992 blackout. Lending a historical perspective to the issue of IPPs is former TNB executive chairman Tan Sri Ani Arope, who headed the national utility from 1990 to 1996. It was during his tenure that the first generation IPPs were created. StarBiz deputy news editor JAGDEV SINGH SIDHU has the story.
STARBIZ: What happened after the first major blackout in 1992?
Ani: TNB had plans in place to pump out more energy by building plants in Pasir Gudang and Paka. Financing was no problem and our credit standing was very high. We had the land acquired and were ready to move in and plant up.
But we were told by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) that it had its own plans. We cautioned EPU that if those plants, which would take two years to complete, were not built, Malaysia would get another major blackout. When you have a place with 250 engineers, it does not make sense to say (the blackout) is because of poor planning. But the EPU said it had its own plans and we were told to surrender the land.
Then it surfaced that it wanted to privatise the power plants. I am not anti-IPPs per se. It is good to have other players but it has to be done fairly. It has to be fair to the consumers, not just TNB, which is a conduit. TNB, because of the electricity hike, has been treated as the whipping boy. The focus should be on the consumers.
When the generous terms were given to the IPPs, all my other peers around the world asked what was happening. They said they would like to have a share in the IPPs. They said (the contracts to IPPs) were “too darn generous.'' (The terms) were grossly one sided.
Star:
How was the Malaysian model of IPPs created?

We are not entirely human, germ gene experts argue
By Maggie Fox, Health and Science Correspondent
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - We may not be entirely human, gene experts said on Thursday after studying the DNA of hundreds of different kinds of bacteria in the human gut.
Bacteria are so important to key functions such as digestion and the immune system that we may be truly symbiotic organisms -- relying on one another for life itself, the scientists write in Friday's issue of the journal Science.
Their findings suggest that studying bacteria native to our bodies may provide important clues to disease, nutrition, obesity and how well drugs will work in individuals, said the team at The Institute for Genomic Research, commonly known as TIGR, in Maryland.
"We are somehow like an amalgam, a mix of bacteria and human cells. There are some estimates that say 90 percent of the cells on our body are actually bacteria," Steven Gill, a molecular biologist formerly at TIGR and now at the State University of New York in Buffalo, said in a telephone interview.
"We're entirely dependent on this microbial population for our well-being. A shift within this population, often leading to the absence or presence of beneficial microbes, can trigger defects in metabolism and development of diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease."
Scientists have long known that at least 50 percent of human feces, and often more, is made up of bacteria from the gut. Bacteria start to colonize the intestines and colon shortly after birth, and adults carry up to 100 trillion microbes, representing more than 1,000 different species.
They are not just freeloading. They help humans to digest much of what we eat, including some vitamins, sugars, and fiber. They also synthesize vitamins that people cannot.
"Humans have evolved for million of years with these bacteria. And they provide essential functions," Gill said.
GERM SURPRISE
Gill and his team sequenced the DNA in feces donated by three adults. They found a surprising amount of it came from bacteria.
They compared the gene sequences to those from known bacteria and to the human genome and found this so-called colon microbiome -- the entire sum of genetic material from microbes in the lower gut -- includes more than 60,000 genes.
That is twice as many as found in the human genome.
"Of all the DNA sequences in that material, only 1 to 5 percent of it was not bacterial," Gill said.
"We were surprised."
They also found a surprising number of Archaea, also known as archaebacteria, which are genetically distinct from bacteria but which are also one-celled organisms often found in extreme environments such as hot springs.
The donors were healthy adults. None had taken antibiotics for a year, as these drugs are known to disturb the bacteria in the body.
Gill said his team hopes now to make a comparison of the gut bacteria from different people.
"The ideal study would be to compare 20 people, 30 people from different ethnic backgrounds, different diets, drinkers, smokers, and so on, because I think there are going to be distinct differences," Gill said.
These bacteria almost certainly help break down drugs that people take and studying the effects of different populations of the microbes might provide clues to treating different people with various medications.
The next study will focus on the bacteria in the mouth, Gill said. There are at least 800 species in the mouth and maybe more, Gill said.

S-p-L-i-T l-O-y-A-l-T-i-E-s
Again, it was vintage Tun DR Mahathir Mohamad all over.
That was how the NST lead story -- by one Wan Hamidi Hamid who traversed come common terratry with Desi -- led oof on frontpage.
Yes, that's the PERSONALITY that defines the MAN who holds centre stage for 22 yaers and now pays a price for it. A FORMER deputy TUN MUSA HITAM termed IT "Severe Post Prime Ministerial Synrome". He confessed he himself for a time suffered from "Post Deputy Prime Ministerial Syndrome" but learnt to control IT.
To Desi, all these exchanges between Dr Mahathir (and whatever team M members he's gt left!) and the successor Prime Minister basically springs from the core cause of Tun Mahathir (I'd refer to the protagonist as Dr M from here, can?ters" like Samy Vellu, Lim Keng Yaik and Rafidah Aziz so deeply set in Mahathir-cultivated ways of following "umero Uno" 100% that it induced in Dr M a sense that all his troops were with him. Now he finds himself mostly like on an island. Yes, humans all the world over are like this -- most of us want to be on the winning team's side, don't we?Desi's picking Brazil or England...
But once his annointed successor Pak Lah ("r Nice Guy") took over, the players were all (some still are) placed in a new DILEMMA (DR M is well acquainted with such position, I'm sure), but a term I like better is A NEW PRETTY CONUNDRUM.
Old horses like Samy, Keng Yaik (I can't use Lim since some Ignoramouses here might mix it up with Lim Kit Siang!:( and Rafidah have "adjustment" problems. And imagine if you were a vocal one (like Rafidah), there would be problems as represented by the Approved Permist and Proton and the National Car and New Automotive Policy issues. Of course, Samy with his Highways, byways and Tollways and Untold Road and Hillside Collapse problems. But someone like Keng Yaik got less spot light. You know why? He learnt to keep quiet.
Our beloved Prime Minister is thebest counterfoil to all these people tending towards LOUDMOUTHISM.
The best defence is to IGNORE FOOLS or demented souls or VICTIMS F POST ..... SYNDROME. In one month's time many Readers will undersatnd this better, if you had forgotten 4-year-old history: POST WORLD CUP SINdrum.
Now where was I?
Oh yeah, I intended to write about SPLIT LOYALTIES, and the precedent was just warming up, like the 15 minutes before Costa Rica met its WATERLOO AT THE FEET OF GERMANY last midnight; Yes, my dear ER, I saw you dare/there:)
From the Q&A in the NST page 4, where A is the response from Dr M
Below are excerpts of his Press conference:
Q: What is your comment on the Cabinet Ministers’ reactions?
A: Instead of explaining about the subjects that I raised and complained about, all the talk is about whether I am right in making a criticism or not; whether I am following the Umno tradition and all that. But the questions that I raised received no answer. Maybe it is because they don’t have an answer. These were my Cabinet Ministers you know. I thought they agreed with me. As I said, I always make mistakes in choosing people.
Q: Is it the Government’s official view or just a perception that you used all the money on mega projects?
A: The PM didn’t say it. The PM never said anything. But there are people who said we couldn’t continue anymore with mega projects because we have no more money.
Q: Do you view this as a clash with Pak Lah?
A: I’m not clashing with Pak Lah. I don’t agree with some of the things done and I want to know why. Why can’t we build the bridge? I want to know that.
Q: Do you have a problem with the Government?
A: I don’t have any problems with the Government. I have problem with these things, the things done now. You shouldn’t ask questions, you should keep your mouth shut.
Q: So how is this issue resolved?
A: Please explain. Why was MV Agusta sold for one euro? How did it arrive at that price? I’ve already asked this. I’ve written the questions. But no answers. I want to know why Tengku Mahaleel was sacked, what was wrong with him? I want to know.
Q: Your view on Cabinet Ministers disagreeing with you?
A: The very decision that they agreed before now they have a new leader, they now disagree. If they disagreed before, they should have told me.
Q: On Pak Lah’s comment that Dr Mahathir was entitled to his own views?
A: I’m happy. I’m very happy with all the comments. That he says it’s my right to speak, yes, very good, thank you very much. Now I am speaking to you because he says I have a right to speak. But some others say I have no right to speak. Sorry.
~~~~~~~~OF SPECIAL INTERRST TO DESI~~~~~~~
Before the Press conference ended, Dr Mahathir told journalists that much of what they had written in their notebooks would not be published. "No need to write this. You cannot write this. Because Kalimullah (New Straits Times Press deputy chairman) will make a phone call. Yesterday Kalimullah already made the calls. He called The Star," he said.
(The Star’s Group Editor-in-Chief Datuk Wong Sulong yesterday dismissed Dr Mahathir’s statement, saying that he has "never received any advice or instructions from Kalimullah".
Wong said the last time he met Kalimullah was at a wedding reception two weeks ago where they chatted socially.
"The conversation was absolutely social in nature. I’ve not met or spoken to Datuk Kalimullah since then," he said.)
~~~~~~~ends of SPECIAL INTEREST TO DESI~~~~~~~
DESIDERATA: The highlight I would like to comment on is from this response by Dr M: " The very decision that they agreed before now they have a new leader, they now disagree. If they disagreed before, they should have told me.
Dr M has a VALID POINT in that in his previous Cabinet, the members including veterans like Samy, Rafidah and Keng Yaik, were mostly YES-MEN. They owed absolute loyalty to Dr M, "Yes, Mr Prime Minister!; "No, Mr Prime Minister!"; "I did not hear you, Mr Prime Minister, Say it again please, Mr Prime Minister" -- that sort of chorus to go with Da Musical called Sandywar. (Howsy, how's the musik kambing?"
"Power tends to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely." ~~ Lord Acton.
I'm sure the above refrain has some relevance. If someone rules long enough, the subordinates cowered like lapdogs, maintaining a quiet like the Silence of the Lambs.
When a new shepherd comes along after 22 years,
even lapdogs start to bark, from too many emotions bottled up in the graves of condescension and growel.
Hence, this collission of the olde and new orders.
Caught in a position of CONFLICT, most of these iKabinet members would support the INCUMBENT PM, does it not, to safeguard their own Cabinet posts. To .... with the ex-PM, he has oulived his useeful shelf life... must be a sad though that passes through many a "retiree"'s mind...
And wisemen on the sidewalks like Tun Musa Hitam, and lesser writers like Wan Hamidi Hamid and desiderata-ylchong write their wisecracks.
~~~~~~~
Oh yes, nack to that SPECIAL INTEREST DESI, as a newsman and a concerned Malaysian of NegaraKU.
The journalist now serving as GEIC of the Star mentioned Wong Sulong also suffers from aq SYNDROME called PR SPLIT LOYALTIES SYNDROME.
I have written to the PM's Department before, posing the question:
How can the Government allow a Malaysian holding Permanent Residence in a foreign ountry to hold the position of a Group Editor-in-Chief of the country's largest circulating daily?
I'd lay it out here again> If someone holds a PR status of AUSTRALIA, WHICH IS/WAS THE CASE WITH WONG WHEN HE WAS APPOINTED BUSIBNESS EDITOR AT THE sTAR, LATER PROMTED AS GEIC, AND HOLDING SUCH A POSITION OF INFLUENCE AND POWER, SUERLY HE WOULD BE CAUGHT AT VARIOUS TIMES IN SITUATIONS GIVING RISE TO "CONFLICT OF INTERESTS".
This person would not put the interests of NegaraKU above all other interests (psonal and those of the country where he also owes half loyalty) as he has to take into account his Permanent Residence of Australia and his actions/decisions on certain issues -- especially Politics and International Relations -- would be impacted thus. Surely anyone would see that an GEIC holds tremenous power in his post -- more son than some lesser Ministerial portfolio like Culture and Arts maybe?) -- that affects the destiny of Malaysia.
I write this piece on a matter of Principles, nothing PERSONAL. If any friend of mine were to hold any Permanent Residence of Australia, UK or Canada, I welcome him back to work -- in positions that are not RIGHT UP THERE LIKE A SENATOR OR MINISTER OR GROUP EDITOR. Because certain posts are non-compromisable. Non-negottiable to holders of quetionable, or split, loyalties.
I am not surprised Wong would have to watch over his shoulders every time a "controversial issue" like the present one involving a former PM (Dr M) and a current PM (Pak Lah) as he has to weigh the whole issue with his PR status always hanging like a Damocles' sword over his head, His cause would not solely be based on Journalism ethics and Kepentingan NegaraKU.
So what's a call from Kalimmullah Hassan to the Star GEIC? Nothing surprising, and to my mind, so superfluous because Wong, on his own accord, would have censored out anything that is detrimental to his vested interests, or giving only token covergae to save his ...Proven especially when the issues involve lesser parties like NGOs and DAP or other Opposition parties, but national leaders past or present, including Dr M, Wong cannot completely ignore, so what's a discussion with UMNO power brokers like Kalimullah? -- he has to safeguard his own (also MCA) interests.
Dr Mahathir, some advice from a concerned Malaysian, you can expect more personnel with SPLIT LOYALTIES to come from behind to put that "dagger in the back" -- again and agin."Et tu, Brute!"
Dr M, Your mentee, Tengku Mahaleel Ariff, also should know. Some GEIC was singing his (Mahaleel's) high praises when he was Proton CEO, and just days later following his sacking, this same GEIC was singEing him like Mary and her little lamb. Or have we forgotten so easily? It's all there in The Star archives. Buried with the sands of passing time?
Hannibal Lector for company, anyone?
Silence of the Lambs
No, it's not the resurrection of Lector.
It's the Malaysian lambs, mainly in the Media, now even the mute among them are talking.
But during 22 years under the Mahathir regime, they chose to keep quiet. Very quiet. By their own volition. They read the Master's mind.
They chose to be The Master's Voice.
Now they are squeling like little piglets. Not even lambs -- and they trumpet it as a virtue -- whose fleece is as white as snow. Lamb chops with Desi, anyone?
And if you are wondering what Desi's rant is all about, be patient.
I'll start now. I'm captain of my own ship, aren't I?
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is in a spot.
For being in the spot light.
And some Media personalities who were once His cronies singing the loudest praises are now singing the INCUMBENT PM's song. See The Star -- I won't even dignify to mention their names.
They did the same to the former Porton chief, strangely or by coincidence, another M -- the sacrifiial lamb named Tengu Mahaleel. I remember one GEIC was singing his name like a demi-God, then a month later, was singEing his name like little Mary and her Little Lamb.
If you want names, please-lah, get me someone like that Lawyer who speaks like he's another demi-God, when not even an MP, was asking the Foreign Minister to "resign" or jump from the imaginary bridge. Wow, the mantle of associated power...
An open letter to Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad: Not going gentle into that good night
09 Jun 2006
By Rehman Rashid
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY, Tun?
That’s what we — the products, inhabitants, stewards and legatees of the country you designed and built — need to know. Why have you become so harsh a critic of your successor’s administration?
You made them, too. They have cleaved to your vision of what this country needs to be, and they are moving forward — or at least attempting to, as best they can, given the way forward as they see it.
It wasn’t necessarily their way forward; it was yours. No one has argued with the road map you drafted for this country, nor the direction you determined, nor even with the pace you set to get where you wanted us to go.
Nothing of your legacy as prime minister has been dismantled. Such restructuring as is happening in the corporate Malaysia Inc you established — Proton and MAS in particular — is for companies in desperate trouble, needing to be re-engineered to new and more businesslike specifications. Whether this will turn them around remains to be seen, but it needed to be done.
On the fuel price hike, your suggestion that fuel subsidies could have been maintained by allowing the exchange rate to float was, well, radical. Certainly, so was your decision to peg the ringgit to the US dollar during the Asian financial meltdown in 1998. By that time the claws of the crisis had sunk deep, and there was no lack of popular and political support for your soon-to-be famously successful move.
But the present administration, in reducing fuel subsidies, was responding to imperatives of long-term prudence, and that too has been by-and-large accepted and supported by the people. Times have changed, Tun. You should know: You changed them.
(ends extract, so if you want more, go spend RM1.20-lah, because if you are an Optimist like Desi, PETRONAS your festive sponsor will give thee an ANGPOW come this December 2006 because it has recorded a BUMPER HARVEST oiled in RM83,000,000,000 as this year's profit.
Desiderata is more interested in Media personalities, and have to say his peace as an Indpenmdent Writer watching all this Sandiwara, Opera and Wayang Kulit, for in deed, Malaysians have been entertained to all these in all their variety and nuances in the past -- the last decade especially, beginning with the Sacking of a Lord President and several brother judges, followed by the Anwar Ibrahim Sacking and Trails ga and the Sauk Arms Heist, just mentioning some outstanding episodes.
And all these have traced their links or pathways to a final destination: TUN DR MAHATHIR. Now it's understandable -- by being a Prime Minsiter for 22 years of NegaraKu. Even a two-term American President like Kennedy or Eisenhopwer is now easily forgotten, what more almost THREE TIMES the length of premiership.
But I don't envy Dr Mahathir's position.
Or his feeling that HE HAS BEEN STABBED IN THE BACK.
In politics since Time Immemorial, that's to be expected.
Et tu, Brute?
Da Game is to see who's the last one to sink in "THE MOST UNKINDEST CUT OF ALL".
And the protagonist need not be Mahathir alone -- current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is in the queue, so also his deputy Najib Tun Razak (of PM lineage), and others of less blue bloodline, nevertheless waiting in the wings ...
Muhyiddin Yassin, Khir Toyo, don't rule out MCA number 1 -- Ong Kah Ting -- and MIC numero uno, Semi Value (did I get that sperring right?)
Meanwhile, I agree with Rehman Rashid's obervation that we are now where we are because of Dr Mahathir's 22-year reign; and the "wise pick" of Pak Lah over Najib; a decisoon he seems to "regret" judgiong by the recent outbursts, but one man's wrong is many people's benefit, desi's too.
TELL YOU WHY.
The mainstream media are now more vociferous in reaction to the Internet bringing forth online news like malaysiakini.com and Blogsworld -- which even a diehard critic like Dr Mahathir had resorted to use -- RELUCTANTLY.
But it';s also due to the quiet democrat that Pak Lah (yes, "Mr Nice Guy") represents.
And that's something to be thankful for.
The flowering of media feedom.
A more vibrant democracy for the past three years almost.
And I pray the PM will continue to promote -- a more OPEN SOCIETY.
Hence we see Jaequeline's OPEN LETTER.
Hence today we read Rehman's OPEN LETTER.
Hence you read Desiderata-YLchong-lah!
See, power by association:)
But the legacy of Dr Mahathir -- for better ior for worse -- will remain.
Aftyer 22 years, many Malaysians have made their evaluation and judgments. Some are brave enough to get out of the sidewalks to speak up.
For Pak Lah, almost three years as CEO of NegaraKU, Desi is of the opinion "IT"S TOO SOON TO GIVE A VERDICT".
Let's judge him after two terms -- my minimum test period.
No, not another two decades.
I just hope there will never be another one. A PM for two decades. NO, not Dr Mahathir. For it's a truism that God created every one of us a UNIQUE person. There is no replica, or clone, possible yet at the momemnt. The future, who's to tell? So for now, Strive To Be Happy -- There won't be a second desiderata-ylchong, rest ASSured. One is more than irritating enough!:)
It's the Malaysian lambs, mainly in the Media, now even the mute among them are talking.
Certainly, so was your decision to peg the ringgit to the US dollar during the Asian financial meltdown in 1998. By that time the claws of the crisis had sunk deep, and there was no lack of popular and political support for your soon-to-be famously successful move.
But the present administration, in reducing fuel subsidies, was responding to imperatives of long-term prudence, and that too has been by-and-large accepted and supported by the people. Times have changed, Tun. You should know: You changed them.
(ends extract, so if you want more, go spend RM1.20-lah, because if you are an Optimist like Desi, PETRONAS your festive sponsor will give thee an ANGPOW come this December 2006 because it has recorded a BUMPER HARVEST oiled in RM83,000,000,000 as this year's profit.
Desiderata is more interested in Media personalities, and have to say his peace as an Indpenmdent Writer watching all this Sandiwara, Opera and Wayang Kulit, for in deed, Malaysians have been entertained to all these in all their variety and nuances in the past -- the last decade especially, beginning with the Sacking of a Lord President and several brother judges, followed by the Anwar Ibrahim Sacking and Trails ga and the Sauk Arms Heist, just mentioning some outstanding episodes.
And all these have traced their links or pathways to a final destination: TUN DR MAHATHIR. Now it's understandable -- by being a Prime Minsiter for 22 years of NegaraKu. Even a two-term American President like Kennedy or Eisenhopwer is now easily forgotten, what more almost THREE TIMES the length of premiership.
But I don't envy Dr Mahathir's position.
Or his feeling that HE HAS BEEN STABBED IN THE BACK.
In politics since Time Immemorial, that's to be expected.
Et tu, Brute?
Da Game is to see who's the last one to sink in "THE MOST UNKINDEST CUT OF ALL".
And the protagonist need not be Mahathir alone -- current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is in the queue, so also his deputy Najib Tun Razak (of PM lineage), and others of less blue bloodline, nevertheless waiting in the wings ...
Muhyiddin Yassin, Khir Toyo, don't rule out MCA number 1 -- Ong Kah Ting -- and MIC numero uno, Semi Value (did I get that sperring right?)
Meanwhile, I agree with Rehman Rashid's obervation that we are now where we are because of Dr Mahathir's 22-year reign; and the "wise pick" of Pak Lah over Najib; a decisoon he seems to "regret" judgiong by the recent outbursts, but one man's wrong is many people's benefit, desi's too.
TELL YOU WHY.
The mainstream media are now more vociferous in reaction to the Internet bringing forth online news like malaysiakini.com and Blogsworld -- which even a diehard critic like Dr Mahathir had resorted to use -- RELUCTANTLY.
But it';s also due to the quiet democrat that Pak Lah (yes, "Mr Nice Guy") represents.
And that's something to be thankful for.
The flowering of media feedom.
A more vibrant democracy for the past three years almost.
And I pray the PM will continue to promote -- a more OPEN SOCIETY.
Hence we see Jaequeline's OPEN LETTER.
Hence today we read Rehman's OPEN LETTER.
Hence you read Desiderata-YLchong-lah!
See, power by association:)
But the legacy of Dr Mahathir -- for better ior for worse -- will remain.
Aftyer 22 years, many Malaysians have made their evaluation and judgments. Some are brave enough to get out of the sidewalks to speak up.
For Pak Lah, almost three years as CEO of NegaraKU, Desi is of the opinion "IT"S TOO SOON TO GIVE A VERDICT".
Let's judge him after two terms -- my minimum test period.
No, not another two decades.
I just hope there will never be another one. A PM for two decades. NO, not Dr Mahathir. For it's a truism that God created every one of us a UNIQUE person. There is no replica, or clone, possible yet at the momemnt. The future, who's to tell? So for now, Strive To Be Happy -- There won't be a second desiderata-ylchong, rest ASSured. One is more than irritating enough!:)
